  • ty for the vid friend, god bless!

  • You've see a lot of videos on YouTube about the LDS (Mormon) Cannery and the great resource it has been to preppers. Twice a year, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holds 'General Conference'. During conference, Church leaders often include instructions on both preparedness and the cannery. This is 'conference weekend'.To watch the sessions of conference online, go to:LDS(dot)org/general-conference/watch?lang=eng

  • Great video. I found a L.D.S. store in Worcester, MA I want to go to. Do you have to be a Mormon to buy there? Do I have to call ahead or just show up? Do you know if they sell mylar bags and oxygen absorbers too? Thanks for the help and for the video.

  • Thank you for the excellent video.

  • I have been trying to do some research on this. where can I find out info on how long certain foods will store? Also, which can be stored in buckets with mylar bags and oxy absorbers and which foods need to be canned?

  • damn that chick at 3:30 is hot i would most def convert to mormon if she would be my wife!!!

  • @lunarkingdom LOL - You like those hairnets, eh?

Most LDS girls I know aren't that easy. Besides, this girl is already married, and you're just about 120 years late for polygamy. ;)

  • @tboneturner i bet she would like my extensive long term food storage enough to give me a chance if she was not indeed married and I never said she or any lds girls were at all easy, I have known a couple of them in the past.

  • @makingaccountforyou Just do a Google image search for "Mormon Women" and you'll see what a dumbass you are.

  • All of the Mormons I've met have all been so decent, honest and kind.

They donate a lot to the local food bank-- very practical sort of charity.

  • We went to the LDS in Richmond VA. mY Husband and myself. We are not LDS. We canned 14 cases of goods in #10 cans, it was great! They showed us how to use the canner. Only 1 other man was there. People, this is a very valuable recource.

We also use Food Saver at home and I can meat with a Pressure Canner.

  • Can you pack dry things into smaller cans like store bought size, insted of those huge cans???? And what is the thing he used at the end to seal that mylar called? Plz post a comment explaning!

  • @DeadApp Not here. The canning machines at the Home Storage Ctrs are for the #10 cans (hold about 1 gallon worth of stuff). If you're have trouble finding a place to store these, you might be able to fit them under a bed. I know someone who has cans of wheat and rice under their beds.

It's called a Mylar Bag Sealer. You can find them on eBay, Amazon, etc. There are even handheld versions. It just melts the mylar bag together along the edge. An iron or soldering iron would do the job too.

  • @Dustycajungurl I have exactly the same experience. I can't explain it but 1 month ago something started tugging on me to store up. I have tried to reason it away by telling myself I have lost it but it gets stronger and stronger. So I did the very same thing as you did. I got all the info I could get and started my new project: Food storage! Sarah

  • I just went to visit the LDS storehouse and purchased all kind of food in bulk. I am not a LDS member but that was not a problem at all. They were VERY friendly and very helpful. I also wanted to do some canning and so they got me in contact with one of their members. I strongly believe that in these troubled times their principle of having a food storage could be a life line for me. Sarah

  • Do LDS allow non members to purchase at centers.

  • @sheba106 Yes, I am pretty certain they do. I've never heard of anyone being turned away because of religious affiliation. Visit providentliving, org and click the "Locations" link at the top of the screen to find the nearest one to you. I would recommend calling them first to make sure they will be there. I also recommend attending with someone who is LDS. If you have an LDS friend, invite them to go with you, or visit maps.lds, org to find the nearest congregation with contact info. Good luck!

  • @sheba106 here in AZ I found a local center and called them up and they said that no matter what my religion that I could go there and purchase from them, they said and i quote " We care more about helping people then converting them just so they can care for their families."

  • Hardcore American Preppers.

  • Now Homeland Security says that home food storage is "hoarding" and talking about confiscation. Great place to live.

  • mormans rock! haha cuz im one of them :)

  • I noticed in the video a quick shot of a sign that reads "No oxygen absorbers in sugar." Can you please explain why?

  • @dwightinutah I've heard that if you use an O2 absorber in the white sugar that the sugar may turn into a rock over time. I've also heard ot folks that have used an O2 absorber and opened a can after several years and the sugar was fine. Of course, it's probably not total loss if the sugar hardens up because you can always get out a hammer and chisel to break it up if you ever have the need. As for me though, I prefer my white sugar granules to stay nice and tiny.

  • LDS First Presidency: "Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to 'prepare every needful thing' so that, should adversity come, we can care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others."

  • "We encourage members world-wide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings. We ask that you be wise as you store food and water and build your savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage all at once. With careful planning, you can, over time, establish a home storage supply and a financial reserve."

  • THREE-MONTH SUPPLY

Build a small supply of food that is part of your normal, daily diet. One way to do this is to purchase a few extra items each week to build a one-week supply of food. Then you can gradually increase your supply until it is sufficient for three months. These items should be rotated regularly to avoid spoilage.

  • DRINKING WATER

Store drinking water for circumstances in which the water supply may be polluted or disrupted. If water comes directly from a good, pretreated source then no additional purification is needed; otherwise, pretreat water before use. Store water in sturdy, leak-proof, breakage-resistant containers. Consider using plastic bottles commonly used for juices and soda. Keep water containers away from heat sources and direct sunlight.

  • LONGER-TERM SUPPLY

For longer-term needs, and where permitted, gradually build a supply of food that will last a long time and that you can use to stay alive, such as wheat, white rice, and beans. These items can last 30 years or more when properly packaged and stored in a cool, dry place. A portion of these items may be rotated in your three-month supply.

  • FINANCIAL RESERVE

Establish a financial reserve by saving a little money each week and gradually increasing it to a reasonable amount.

  • AVOID DEBT

Spending less money than you make is essential to your financial security. Avoid debt, with the exception of buying a modest home or paying for education or other vital needs. Save money to purchase what you need. If you are in debt, pay it off as quickly as possible.

  • BUILD A RESERVE

Gradually build a financial reserve, and use it for emergencies only. If you save a little money regularly, you will be surprised how much accumulates over time.

  • PAY TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Successful family finances begin with the payment of an honest tithe and the giving of a generous fast offering. The Lord has promised to open the windows of heaven and pour out great blessings upon those who pay tithes and offerings faithfully (see Malachi 3:10).

  • USE A BUDGET

Keep a record of your expenditures. Record and review monthly income and expenses. Determine how to reduce what you spend for nonessentials. Use this information to establish a family budget. Plan what you will give as Church donations, how much you will save, and what you will spend for food, housing, utilities, transportation, clothing, insurance, and so on. Discipline yourself to live within your budget plan.

  • TEACH FAMILY MEMBERS

Teach family members the principles of financial management. Involve them in creating a budget and setting family financial goals. Teach the principles of hard work, frugality, and saving. Stress the importance of obtaining as much education as possible.

  • I looked at TheAntiTerrorist's channel and specifically his video on "The Larder of Last Resort". I must say it motivated me to get started and having some Mormon friends available to help me with video's like this, I am slowly gaining ground.

It feels good. For every five meals that I make for my family we make one for another family. Right now that is about the best that we can do.

    Thanks for making this video.

  • I am not LDS but live in Utah. I have some storage foods (mostly freeze dried in #10 cans) set aside for emergencies. If things get really bad and the coming crisis lasts longer than my stored food supply, will the LDS foods storage centers sell or give food to non-LDS people? I share the sentiments of someone else who posted here that the LDS Church is the only church that has the foresight to urge their members to prepare for the coming famine. There is much wisdom in doing that.

  • @dwightinutah

Most canneries have always been open for use by the general public. You can go there now and buy or can your own food. Of course we want to help all people - it is what Christ would do! :)

  • I am not a Mormon. But, I hold Mormons and the leadership of LDS in the highest respect. I have had membership in Baptist, Methodist, Independent Charismatic Churches, and other denominations. These churches do noting to help people to prepare for a crisis: economic crisis, regionals disaster, food crisis, unemployment, or a global disaster. If only the other denominations would copy the Mormon way of preparations. But they will not, because they are designed to make a profit.

  • Even though I am not a mormon I really respect those people. They are the only religeon that I know about that teaches to take practical survival measures. I have been raised Assembly of God and I can tell you that most preachers and most parishners don't know a thing about what preparing for the future. In fact, they believe that in doing so, a person doesn't have faith in God. I believe God gives mankind common sense to survive. Regardless, I am preparing and have been for years.

  • @gunsrme1 That's kinda sad because that means they are forgetting how Joseph showed his faith in God by telling the Pharaoh to prepare during times of plenty for those times of famine. Because Joseph listened to the Lord & the pharaoh listened to Joseph, many were temporally saved. It is up to us to follow their examples!

  • AMEN to that !!!

  • Hi t-bone,

I live in nyc and don't know of any cannery in the area. Please let me know if there are any in close proximity. I live in a poor area of the bronx and many Spanish speaking Christians are unaware of what is going on.

    Thank you, solomonred1

  • Look for Provident Pantry on Google. Emergency Essentials sells them and I've always been very pleased with their service.

  • That is really interesting I always wanted to know how that stuffed worked. Does this place also supply animal food stuffs and human grade grains?

  • They don't have any food that is specifically for animals. It's all intended for human consumption / specifically for long-term food storage. They usually will sell bulk (25 lb bags, typically), both red and white wheat, rice, rolled oats, dry beans, some pasta, and some other stuff. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

  • The cannery rocks! But anyone can go to the Bishops storehouse and buy bulk foods, mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. I love the Mormons for letting me go and get my supplies.

  • thank you for posting this. I have been wanting to visit a cannery for a while and wondered what kind of operation it was. Everything looks sanitary and quality controlled. I hope more people see this video and prepare for economic uncertainty.

  • Are there any centers like this in Mississippi?

  • I don't think so. There's one in Loisiana, one in Georgia, but I didn't see any listed for Mississippi.

  • Hey, it's "Whyzitsotough" again! Man, you always hang out near the Mormon videos, at least it is easy to find you!

To answer the question that your username implies, it is so tough because you apparently lack an education and the smarts to figure things out. See, that wasn't so hard, was it?

  • send me a PM. The closest cannery is in Slidell, LA. Also, I am looking for folks to go in on bulk food/ammo purchases.

  • we don't supply any ammo, but just food.

  • I supply the ammo!

  • I am not a Mormon, but all of my Mormon friends are well equipped with fire arms, AMMO, short wave radio, first aid supplies, and other survival things and equipment.

  • I don't know any Mormons that stockpile "guns and ammo" I think you are trying to spread rumors as all anti-mormons do.

  • I am not anti Mormon. I like Mormons. I support what they do. I respect their organization. More Power to them. It will be the Mormons that put this country back together again when it falls.

Yes, I know many Mormons in Utah who are well armed, know how to communicate with short wave radio, know how to do first aid.

    Sorry if this offends you.

  • Many non-Momrons are armed. I lived in Utah and I even attended and graduated from BYU and I never met any Mormons that where into gun and ammo stocking for survivalist purposes. However, I have meet many Mormons that stock food and avoid debt.

  • Yikes.

  • I wonder also if people not of the LDS faith could use the food centers? I can't find anyone that knows how to do this or has the tools to share in my area. Us Texas women always got together and shared the work as harvest or butchering was done...but life is different now in Washington State...so having a FOOD CENTER where folks like me could keep basic buckets and large cans of staples would be nice for my pantry. Any info would be appreciated.

  • Folks of other faiths are welcome, but it is requested that they attend with a member of the Church. Washington State hosts 6 of these centers. If you need help finding one, or finding an LDS person in your area to go with you, send me a private message and I'll do what I can to assist.

  • a kind and gentle reminder.

    thank you!
