I absolutely LOVE this song! I remember being about 15 and this song was stuck in my head...and I couldn't care less. It's a great song to get stuck in your head. :) 28 now and I still love this song.
I used to play this song with my high school band. Years later I played with Alex Chilton with Tav Falco at Danceteria , NYC. Alex was unassuming and a nice guy. It was great to play with him.
This song was playing on the radio in 1967 when my sister came in and gave me my first pair of football boots, that's why I love this song so much,I still have one of those boots, sad but true.Alex Chilton, thanks.
I'm to young to have been able to hear this on the radio but I played it over and over during the game Battlefield Vietnam when I was a kid, glad I found this song.
@TheWolfsDen617 Your right! The Postal Union went on STRIKE in the late ,60s early '70s when I was with the NAVY in Holy Loch, Scotland. And I was A Navy POSTAL CLERK. We could only sell the stamps we had. We couldn't send the letters anywhere.
I had forgotten how much of the old stuff was a soundtrack to vietnam. I never recall that place fondly. But y9u are right, there was a lot of good music in that era.
@HalfLifeWar3 Memories of 'Nam too. My older brother and my uncle were there toward the end of the invasion. I remember this osng in grade school back on Long Island, NY. is it true that the lead singer was only 16? He sounds so GOOD! I loved this group back then. What happened to all of these great bands? Peace out!
i guess I never thought white guys could play brass like that without Nelson Riddle to help. Wow. always loved this song. Shortest song to ever hit #1.
All these years I thought this singer was black. What? Why are you looking at me like that? I'm not saying anything's wrong with that, I just really thought the guy sounded black.
golden oldies like these to sing to.today's music, huh?what letter does that song in today's begin with?in my book starts with an a.a, as in awful! this one starts with a g,as in good oldie.like their music for many years and still doing so.t.y. for this classic.
box tops rule!!! and im only 25 years old, more of my generation needs to appreciate this music, all they wanna do is head bang to heavy metal that you cant understand, or bump to rap that is made of artificial sound from a board. fuck that, ill take real instruments any day
This was a great song before Joe Cooker mad his version. Joe did a great job on this too. But... this is a great song I remember it being on the radio. You had to be there. Joe nailed it as well. The Box Tops vocal carries it.
There was a very slow version that came out in 68 or 69. Does anyone remember who released that one.
