@annihilus2 It's called a theremin. No idea how it works or who invented it though.

@BikeMartyr Thanks, I wikied it, the inventor was 'Leon Theremin', go figure, a Russian professon. He did it in 1920 and got a US patent in 1928. It turns out Lenin was so impressed with it, he bank rolled it's promotion, a pride of Russian technology kinda thing.
