Only untrained ears can fail to appreciate the differences between bands in their respective genre. Its the subtle differences and variations that make a band unique. You may say that this genre has hit a plateau but listen well ; you will hear that the sound is evolving beautifully through the truly talented. I for one am very greatfull that melodeath has an abundance of bands making the sound.

It happened to power metal during the eighties: when all the bands of a sub-genre starts to sound the same, it's the end of the genre. Melodic death were huge in the 90s and early 2000s but now every band I hear seems a clone of another. Same stop and go, same chords, same guitar harmonies, same vocals. Better to pick up "Heartwork" or "Slaughter of the Soul", they still sound fresher than these today bands.

Melodeath is the best sub-genre of metal ever. It seems to have a lot of the really good bands, like Arch Enemy, Hypocrisy, Amon Amarth, and of course, Mors Principium Est, who I think are the best melodeath band out there.

I love CoB, but they're not really like MPE, if you listen closely to this song in particular you will hear SOME similarities to the OLD CoB stuff. Most of MPE's stuff is nothing like CoB though, look at Altered State Of Consciousness or Inhumanity for instance.

I think that everything on Follow the Reaper by COB and most of their albums pre- AYDY can keep up with mpe, but its all personal preference. Mpe is a little thrashier and less melodic than most COB.
