Prince also got that lead in part that starts the song for his "Mountains", also sung in falsetto, with that lead in spread across the song. But Prince is an actual musician so he's allowed.. this was before samplers and ahem... hiphopers.
Come listen to this song and and many other "lost hits" and "chart wonders" from the 70's (and some 80's) on a free internet station, "OffTheCharts"
Go to Live365.com and type OFF THE CHARTS into the search box. Click on the station logo and the stream should begin. The link to the station is also on my YouTube home page.
Does anyone remember the hilarious remix London soul DJ Froggy did of this back in the late 70.s? .......he repeated the line "Girls,i like 'em fat" over and over again.
Although The Whatnauts are credited with The Moments on the single covers, I understand The Whatnauts don't appear in this song. Can anyone clarify that?
Classic stuff, they just don't make 'em like that anymore. I remember back in 1975 we made up our own lyrics to this tune but somewhat more suggestive!
@carmel1956 I spoke with Al & Billy about this several times over the years. You're correct, The Whatnauts DID NOT record this song with The Moments. All that anyone has to do to confirm it is to simply listen to the harmonies. That's The Moments all the way.
@DatSoulBoss@DatSoulBoss Thanks. Love this song, very 70's with many fond memoies for me. Sad to think it would probabaly be banned these days if it was a new release - the PC neo-liberal brigade and all that!
The Moments are the Whatnauts. Sylvia did a lot of confusion with this group. In the 60's there were different members than in 70's and in the 80's the Moments have to change their name into Ray, Goodman & Brown which is still active but again with different singers. A real confusion! But all in all this group did a fantastic job with all their fantastic smooth & mellow soul songs!
@jazzsoulfan The Moments were The Moments & The Whatnauts were The Whatnauts. 2 different groups entirely. The Whatnauts were from Baltimore & the members were Garnett Jones, Billy Herndon & Gerald Pinckney. There were 4 members on their 1st LP, the 3 above & a guy named Ray, who disappeared after that LP. If you listen to their 1st 3 LPs, it's obvious that their vocal sound is different from that of The Moments. And their band was so hot that Kerr used them instead of Sylvia's house band.
the lead singer looks like antoine dodson lol just sayin
