  • With all of this, I can just as easily double back on Watts's philosophy and say, "All is real, all is true", and none of you could contend with that argument. It is absurd to accept, or deny, that life itself is an illusion, and that the self does not matter, until some proof otherwise has been gleaned, and this is also to say that in your search for 'self' or lack of 'self', and according to Watts's own philosophy, this truth can never be known.

  • Died of alcohol abuse, well jesus did get wasted with his mates at the last supper. He might of sensed it was coming, so he decided to play one last time.. Well in this lifetime anyway

  • @SDTicth ...? Wasted at the last supper? Have you ever even seen a bible?

  • People sometimes say at resturants: we would like a moment, and I sometimes would say "I'm sorry we've just ran out of moments, I'll have to give you a minute"

  • thank's for this vid.

  • When I used to play the sims, I would make this character called "painy brains" a slovenly bald fat guy who I would torture, kill, or just let live in general anguish.

I've since come to realize that, whoever is playing the game that is my life, is doing the same to me.

  • i was just introduced to Watts from youtube suggestions, haha, so i went to wiki to read about him. The article states there isn't any evidence for the cause of his death. But also said, social and financial respondsibilities drove him to alcoholism. Can someone elaborate please? thanks!!

  • What an incredible mind!

  • @bcbrunsk we all have it,

    just stop looking for it:)

  • what is real_

? everzthing you can eat. what is not real? everything you can eat, is a construct of the brain/mind.

  • The feeling of closing your eyes, and trying to produce tears for dry eyes.

  • StuartGilliganGriff, that's a good question. I've read his autobiography and another biography about him. Each gives a very different perspective. In the bio, two weaknesses came out: womanizing and alcoholism. He was only 58 when he passed away. Maybe he just forgot who he really was, I don't know. And yet, he was the best spiritual teacher that I have ever seen or heard of. He is spot on brilliant. The weakness were still there. He was a man/god, just like the rest of us.

  • Allan Watts is a prophet. He is a messenger of information on spiritual grounds. No need to argue or hate, or to agree or to love. It just is. Allan Watts 'is' a Bodhisattva.

  • @Arminsaf2 ...bodhisattva, won't you take me by the hand?...

  • Where's the pic from?

  • Ha! It's funny to hear he was a womanizer. That's the feeling I was getting from him while I was meditating. I love him nonetheless.

  • If he had such a great mind, why did he die an alcoholic?

  • @StuartGilliganGriff

    did he really?

unfortunately, the pit falls of life may still apply to even the greatest of minds.

  • @StuartGilliganGriff That's an odd question, I can't think of many great minds who didn't die from one form of substance abuse or another.

Intelligent people are drawn to altered states of consciousness, but as with all intellectuals cynicism is often the price you pay for having such a brilliant mind, and drugs such as cocaine, heroin, alcohol etc... are often their way out of such a negative outlook that is in such stark contrast with the exuberance displayed in youth.

  • @StuartGilliganGriff he had to die somehow might as well get drunk all the time

  • Thank you for posting and thank YOU Alan... we greatly miss you and your wisdom. You left us much too soon.

  • "Non-dual" reveals the facade of its complementary "dual" in their very interplay. Much love!

  • mr watts structures his sentences so fluidly. its amazing to me that he has such a strong message accompanied with a wondrous way of telling it.

  • gives me reason to stop smoking weedd

  • 0 people don't play :)

  • 0 dislikes = appropriate

  • What a pleasure to listen to Alan Watts. :)

  • It is indeed

  • @plague613

agree, thanks for the community keeping him up :)

discovered him y-day and find him to be almost on the same level as McKenna

  • What a pleasure to listen to Alan Watts.

  • What a pleasure to listen to Alan Watts. He was able to share his wisdom with humor.

  • hello plz go on my chennel and see my vids i have just got my youtube acount and i would love u to see my vids thanks love,pgvg8

  • well!!!i don`t know where is the fun!you can see!!!!!!!i think the world have been made for............no fun!!!!!!at all!

  • Alan Watts talks are the most profound that I've heard on youtube

  • What bugs me about buddhists is that they were clothes

  • Watch The Jewish Nudist Buddhist

  • Best I think not to 'play' prior to entering the stream. This can better be termed as the "turning about in the deep seat of consciousness". Containment of energy/mindfulness/self discipline/devotion are most definitely necessary first. There is rarely a short cut in practice. We should take care not to run the danger of "just moving objects about in a dream". This is just my gentle advice and can be ignored.

  • Clever. Clever is interesting but not satisfying.

  • I adore Watts as well. He just about saves my life on a regular basis. However, If you want to accept the whole man and face the dark reality as well, you need to know he was no saint. He was a womanizer and a drunk, and dropped dead at an early age, probably as a result of alcoholism. Yes, he played a bit too much!

  • he was in his sixties when he died, wasn't he? And wasn't he married with children?

  • Yes Alan Watts had a bunch of kids, but I have only heard of two: Mark Watts has a Youtube channel and runs his Electronic university. Daughter comments on her dad on the Watts funeral podcast from Psychedelic Salon. on that site also excellent Ferry Boat discussion on 60's with Snyder and Leary, etc.

    Thanks --- A.

  • @yoseph89 born in 1915 died in 1973

  • @yoseph89

yes his son posts on youtube under the name markwatts02

  • Well those aren't necessarily objectively bad. Not like he ever harmed another person. He just lived a sort of hedonistic lifestyle in some regards.

  • figure out that there is nothing to figure out. it is all relative. the dancer is the dance. :)

  • Je remind of some Quote en a ecolez:-

"We Work that we might have Leisure, we have leisure that we might play, we play that we might think"

Le produit du Education a Catholique, sorry.

    Je wonder if c'est correct?

    =OoO=

  • amazing, this guy knows abit too much. :)

wonder if he get time to 'play' as the buddists say...

    thanks for the video, plague613

    take good care.

  • Don't worry, Watts did plenty of playing. Probably a liitle too much in fact! :-)

  • whenever i listen to watts, he sounds like he is having a good time. this 10 minutes, if i understand him, its purposelessness gives it meaning; the fact that watts does not *have* to do it makes it fun for him to do.

...the force will be with you... always

  • Another very profound lecture from the genius that was Alan Watts.
