  • 32:34 : But doesn't M-Theory really require 10 spacial dimensions and one of time? Of course, he says that mathematical consistancy requires 10 dimensions. He doesn't claim that 10 dimensions gets you away from having to honor 5 different string theories. But I'm pretty sure that the smart money is on 11 dimensions, these days.

  • The irrational fear of the Earth being consumed by an LHC-manufactured black hole is directly traceable to indiscretions on the part of researchers going on TV and and engaging in hyperbole: "The LHC will create collisions at energies not seen since the Big Bang!", "The LHC will create a Big Band a billion times per second!"

    What did they expect the public to make of those (false) statements? LHC collisions are only special because they occur where we can study them.
