The game is not rendered in 1080p tho..... its native resolution is 720p.

The game uses a built-in software upscaler to upscale the game to 1080i/p for the older CRT HDTV sets and LCD HDTV's that can only do 1080p.

The PS3 also upscales the game if you force it to 1080. This makes no difference to the game because it was programmed in 720p so basically anything in 1080 with COD4 is upscaled by hardware or software either from the PS3 or the TV.

there is an huge difference. I have an 65" Mitsubishi DLP IDK what series. And my HDMI cable is an Auvio ($35) which you can get at your local radio shack. It's the best quality trust me forget those $80 monster cables buy you one of these and you'll thank me & yourself. If you own a ps3 and your HDTV supports RGB Full turn it on. It makes all the difference in the world. Madden 10 looks clean & Killzone 2 looks so cinematic in game real close to E3 05 trailer. Yes 1080p is king. Buy an Auvio.

Graphics is more important than 1080p (for consoles), 1080p is really just marketing hype.

For example MGS4 runs at 1024x768 but heavy use of Anti Aliasing Mask it, making it look better than all native 1080p games on the PS3.

Yes :-) as long as you have a Full HDTV, go for it, and YES it's time for HDMI, always use it and you will thank me, by the way all the HDTV LCDs have this option in the picture settings, when you use HDMI, you will See the full image with no resizing when an HDMI input used.

what games you playing? Games like GTAIV will run at 720 unless you manually configure your PS3 to upscale to 1080p. I assume you are using HDMI cables, right?

try comparing killzone 2 with 1080p and 480p you will see a difference cause in call of duty 4 graphics are the same in killzone you will know what im talking about once you see that 480p graphics in the main menu compare to 1080p, 480p is all busty like you ever seen..

you can not change PS3 display setting without quitting out of Duty. Sorry. I don't remember if duty is 1080p or 720p but I know you can't manually configure a PS3 without quitting the game.

1080p is better, the p stands for progressive meaning it shows the entire image, 1080p is better for faster images, 1080i is different, the i stands for interlaced, the old tube tvs use interlaced to display, there are sets of lines and interlaced tv the images are shown on two different sets rather than the 1080p where the enitre image is shown, so 1080p is the best you can get.

When your tv is 1080p.if your input is 720p your TV is just scaling the image regardless, you dont get a letter box effect.

Actually Games do not run better on a 120hz TV but infact worse.

As 120hz increases image processing thus increasing response time.

Which can in turn cause ghosting and artefacts.

With 100hz on, on my samsung TV, uncharted and other games when panning has a blurry image around the character. So i keep 100hz off when gaming.

True there is a website somewhere about (google it) which gives you the actual true resolution of console games. Very very few are actually anything above 576p the only game I remember off the top of my head that is 1080p is virtual tennis 3 :D

the VAST majority of games on consoles do NOT run at full 1080p. There is no way with the hardware they have. You can set it to 1080p, but if the game doesn't support it natively there isn't a point. Upscaling yes but natively? no

Well, it depends in the game engine, if the game has 1080p feature, your TV will switch to 1080p, like MGS 4 , it 720p but it says in the back 720p, 1080i, 1080p, so it switchs automatically.
