I want to play PS2 / NES / Dreamcast on it, with or without recording.
Mostly I'm concerned about input lag and actual lag while playing it. I don't want to split it as I'm mostly not looking for a capture card, but just for a way to play my old consoles on my PC monitor, which only has DVI / HDMI.
@ArekkuMM Reasonably playable. Depends on how much lag you're talking about. As far as actual lag goes, there's not much of that (assuming you have a sufficiently powerful PC). But as far as input lag goes, that might also depend on your PC specs, but I think I had minor input lag. But again, depends on how you define minor. It might be more that what you'd like (maybe depending on the game).
I haven't used the Easycap since I've upgraded to the AverTV CaptureHD H727 card, so I'm not sure.
@Edituhhh I believe it shows up in the menu as NTSC / M. The other NTSC is if you live in Japan or have a Japanese console, in which case, you'll need to use NTSC / MJ, presumably. I've never tried a Japanese console with the EasyCap.
@TheGamerPalace I didn't mean this video was 60fps, I meant it was capable of capturing at 60fps (at least if VirtualDub is to be believed). Of course, the catch is that this probably means 60fps interlaced, meaning the effective frame rate is half of that. (60i as opposed to 60p, if you will).
Or at least that's how I understand it. I may be wrong.
Can you use a USB Mic/Speakerphone Headset while capturing video to get the result of both the game audio and your voice audio? Or will you need to get a stand-alone microphone that will pick up both the game and voice audios?
@WanderingPictures I'm not quite sure what your question is, but let me put it this way. There's nothing stopping you hardware wise from recording through both the easycap and a separate headset, but the easycap itself does not have another audio input that it can record. If you do have another headset, then you can always route it into another program and then mux the result later. Audacity is a good, free piece of software that can do this.
@pein42 Yes. You can use this with anything that supports a Composite or S-Video output. So be warned, that the PS3 won't look very pretty with this. You'll have to invest in something a little more pricey if you want it to look better.
if you put it at 60fps it will lag on more dynamic games or levels making it run poorly set it to 30fps and it will run a bit smoother for dynamic levels and the quality shouldn't change by much
Everyone really needs to test out this game. It is amazing. The guns are remarkably exact. All of you need to dl this game from BFBC2DownloadXcom (replace X with . ).
how well do you think this would do on a acer netbook , keeping in mind the netbook has no disk drive(would be helpfull if someone could find me a software download"thanks!")
I'm looking at using a capture card for playing video games on a computer screen with minimal recording, I cannot quite distinguish whether you are saying this works well as a display or not. In short, would you recommend buying this for just playing a wii on your computer screen?
No. There's no 'may' not be in color. The only reason it wont be in color is because you live in a different region and you don't have the right display settings. They all have color no matter what.
I didn't record at 60FPS. Composite video displays in interlaced form, so it draws half the screen the first pass and the second half of the screen on the second pass. So while it updates at 60Hz, it draws only half the screen every pass (alternating scanlines). Composite video can only display in 30FPS.
no all you need is easy cap, maybe some splitters if you want to play on the TV and record on the computer. but the sound is on the easy cap, just mess with the settings if it isnt there right away
hey i just bought the usb easy cap and just wondering can u have the projection in a window mode or is it full screen i dont know much about it im waiting for it to come :P
You can use either the bundled Ulead Video Studio recording software (which is the software I use to record footage) or you can download Media Player Classic (great general purpose video player) and select "Open Device..." and you can select the EasyCap from there and it'll play in MPC. At that point you can do whatever MPC can normally do to videos to the EasyCap's output.
Either way, to answer your question, you can have it windowed or full screen.
If you're getting a "Found new Hardware" every time you plug it in, that means it probably hasn't fully installed yet. Leave it in your computer for a while longer. It should say "Software is ready for use." after the installation finishes. At which point, it should even show up in the My Computer as a Camera/Scanner, I believe. I forget exactly if Vista does the same, but XP throws it into My Computer as well.
@chroprs I hope you have a beefy computer if you're attempting this with Vista. I'm happy to report that it does work. However, I'm not very happy to report that my computer lags while recording. Either my computer specs are lacking (see video description) or my hard drive's extremely fragmented.
In any case, make sure you're computer's pretty beefy. Turn off anything running in the background (explorer included if you can get away with it).
@OtakuReborn i got my easycap 2.0 today, everythink is great but how to i get it to run smooth when i play, i record it and it turns out laggy and the sound dosnt go with the gameplay
@chroprs Did you read my response? I'm happy to report that it does work. However, I'm not very happy to report that my computer lags while recording. Either my computer specs are lacking (see video description) or my hard drive's extremely fragmented.

Worst comes to worst, you might have to use another OS. WinXP works great.
@OtakuReborn no am not using vista, i got windows 7, the laptop is very fast and i have nothing running. the only time i can get it to run smooth is when i put the quality on poor
i recently bought this product from ebay for alittle over 13 bucks.
seems like a really good bargin, compared to my TV Wonder PCI 200 tuner, which not only i had to jerry rig to fit in my incredibly small tower, but it wasnt very compatible with vista.
At time of recording the above clip, I was indeed using Vista. Since then, I've switched over to XP again. In either case, both worked well for me. To be specific, it was Windows Vista Enterprise. The only thing you may have to worry about is if you have a non-Windows OS, since I don't have a Mac to test it with and from what I've tried, Ubuntu has no drivers for the EasyCap, so no Linux, I'm assuming.
Everytime I put my Easycap in, my computer crashes and I get the Blue Screen of Death. =/ I think it's because I only have 300 MB left on my computer. Any help?
I don't know, yours shouldn't be lagging, at least not that badly. If I were to guess though, your bottleneck is your graphics card. GeForce 8400 is not very impressive at all. While it might suffice for just playing, it's probably not enough for recording.
I looked up the Dell Dimension 3000 that it looks like you have, and if I'm reading this right, your computer is probably too old. A Celeron D 2.4GHz and 256MB of RAM probably isn't going to cut it. Not to mention you don't can't have a graphics card (no AGP/PCI-Express slot). You're probably going to lag. You need to go for a newer computer.
More RAM probably helps. I'd go at least a gig. I'm not sure about the difference, but 512 is on the lower end nowadays, with memory being dirt cheap.
How to play in fullscreen depends on the program you use for output. In most programs, there's a fullscreen option.
As for the lines when you move, those are scanlines, held over from the TV interlacing. A TV displays only every other line in a frame, while a computer monitor uses a progressive scan, drawing ALL the lines. You can't prevent that, I don't think.
If you're using Ulead VideoStudio, the capture option does have a full screen icon. It's at the bottom right hand corner of the preview window. It's just a circle with 4 diagonal arrows pointing at the corner of the boxes.
I know I'm late and all, but you could open the video in virtual dub and deinterlace (it's under video > filters). Just make sure you select "direct stream copy" under video. so it doesn't get rid of the compression and spit out a some huge 2 GB file or something.
Hmm...I should try that deinterlacing filter then. At least for uploading videos. If only EasyCap could go straight through VirtualDub, then it'd be pretty sweet, but either way. I'll give that a try. Though I think you should be selecting "Full Processing Mode" instead of "Direct Stream Copy." I have EasyCap recording in Uncompressed Video for speed. I apply the compression in VirtualDub after the recording. I don't think "Direct Stream Copy" allows filters either.
I've looked for specs of this device everywhere, and I couldn't find a resolution for it. So could you tell me that I can at least to 720x560 or so pixels? I'm looking into getting this for it's apparent Pal_60 support, but unless I get higher than 320x240 it's not an upgrade from my old CaptureCard. Thanks in advance :)
I'm not sure of the exact resolution it will reach, but I am sure it DOES go higher than 320x240. Personally, I record at 640x480, but I think it'll stretch to 720x480 or something (I forget the exact vertical size). The device is currently packed away (moving to college) so I can't check it at this moment. If you'd like to know, I can post it later.
It's ok, as long as I can get a decent image it's great, right now I'm just wanting Pal_60 compatibility, and this can apparently. That, and a decent resolution, looking set to be great. Thanks :)
I'm actually recording with Windows Vista, so yes, Windows Vista will work with this.
However, I have been unable to get Windows Movie Maker to recognize the device, though this may just be an isolated issue, so you might have better luck. If nothing else, it comes with its own software, so you can always use that.
Use Lucario ;)
