This documentary isn't designed to disprove the existence of God. It just asks that people stop and ask "why do we believe so blindly in the magical tales and fears of our past, when our present day logic sees the (surface) world as nothing more than physical phenomenon. Personally I believe there is a God, perhaps even a loving father. However, I can't see how 1 single religion is better than any other. Funny, that seems to be the way humans think.
It requires MUCH more Faith to be an atheist. How can such precision, order, structure and beauty in the universe be a product of randomness without an overseer/catalyst? Science and Biblical Theology do not contradict each other in any way. Moreover, the Bible states the universe as have a specific beginning, a spherical earth suspended on nothing as it be.

Actually, I talked to some people about this movie after seeing this, and surprisingly, most of them like the film very much, and they are not all atheists. Then again, how can you hate a film based on factual interviews and indisputable facts?
The movie was excellent, it really shows how irrational people can be. You take religion, and the talking snake bid, along with jona living in the big fish for three days and it all makes sense, but somohow they look at the idea of santa clause and his flying reindeer and laugh.

Well that may be true for later authors of Biblical books (such as some of the letters in the NT) but it's generally accepted that in the case of the creation stories (to which Pigdowndog was referring, as having been written by "ill educated peasants") that authors and editors of these texts would have been, in the context of their era, well educated and among a VERY small % of literate individuals. The Genesis narratives might be "basic" but with proper linguistic and thematic investigation..
while also appreciating the early biological/ecological info the accounts contain, one actually discovers a wealth of comprehension in these creation narratives - they dont purely wish to attach meaning to existence (although that is very important for understanding the accounts) they also aim to say a little of HOW things came to be. To separate the WHY and HOW questions (I dont think that is actually possible) is to do an injustice to the wisdom and indeed the purpose of these traditions.

i'm unaffiliated with any religion and i agree that religion is a justification for otherwise disgraceful acts (crusades, slavery, inquisition, ect.) but at the same time you have to remove your own opinions about religion and see its function in society. though it has been the source of great inequality, it has also been the source of social movement (note the civil rights movement and so on) and that i would not say that religion is completely bad... just not for me... not at all.

I don't think she saw the movie, so this is a great review for it as the interviewees praised it, and a bad show for having biased uninformed opinion of it's own.

The movie was excellent, it really shows how irrational people can be. You take religion, and the talking snake bid, along with jona living in the big fish for three days and it all makes sense, but somohow they look at the idea of santa clause and his flying reindeer and laugh.
And yes, the reporter was extremely annoying.

I don't know how anyone can call this a Review?! It's a completely biased report by this girl, (not a woman) that obviously didn't even see the movie. How can she possibly be objective and inspire the people she's putting her mic in their face?!

Bill and his peeps did a great job. They put self-fulfilling prophecy at the beginning and then repeated it again at the end for maximum emphasis. If you dont understand the logical concept of self-fulfilling prophecy please learn it and then teach it to as many people as you can. Stalin did not kill because he was an atheist. People don't kill in the name of atheism because their is no reason for killing which could be motivated by atheism.
Compare that to the millions of people who have died in the name of god. Religion in many cases allows people to justify murder.

It means that atheists are 'capable' of comitting atrocities. Just because somebody is an atheist it doesn't mean that he/she is immune to commiting immoral acts.

Well that may be true for later authors of Biblical books (such as some of the letters in the NT) but it's generally accepted that in the case of the creation stories (to which Pigdowndog was referring, as having been written by "ill educated peasants") that authors and editors of these texts would have been, in the context of their era, well educated and among a VERY small % of literate individuals. The Genesis narratives might be "basic" but with proper linguistic and thematic investigation..

while also appreciating the early biological/ecological info the accounts contain, one actually discovers a wealth of comprehension in these creation narratives - they dont purely wish to attach meaning to existence (although that is very important for understanding the accounts) they also aim to say a little of HOW things came to be. To separate the WHY and HOW questions (I dont think that is actually possible) is to do an injustice to the wisdom and indeed the purpose of these traditions.

again, please note that i am not supporting religion because i am (as stated) unaffiliated. i'm just saying that you're facts are somewhat slanted and you need to step back and look at the whole picture. i, personally, am not a fan of religion but appreciate and respect what it has inspired (social movements, art, culture, folklore, music, ect) but not so much religion itself. i think we as a people have outgrown it though we haven't come to realize it yet

i'm unaffiliated with any religion and i agree that religion is a justification for otherwise disgraceful acts (crusades, slavery, inquisition, ect.) but at the same time you have to remove your own opinions about religion and see its function in society. though it has been the source of great inequality, it has also been the source of social movement (note the civil rights movement and so on) and that i would not say that religion is completely bad... just not for me... not at all.

The reporter constantly makes the statement that Maher and Charles' doc was attacking God when every single person who watched the movie that she interviewed stated that they were attacking RELIGION, a man-made, man-propaganated atiquated farce. God is something that they didn't profess to define for anyone else. I don't think she saw the movie, so this is a great review for it as the interviewees praised it, and a bad show for having biased uninformed opinion of it's own.
