I'm sorry to reply to an old message, but if I may, The intent of the founders was to create a free Nation with limited Federal Government, and the idea of law makers doing as they please was a concern to Jefferson, which is why the 10th ammendment was added in conjunction with article 1 section 8 of the constitution. Then in 1798 the Virginia and Kentucky resolutions which stated nullification rights to the states. If a law is unconstitutional it is not a law and the states should reject it.

1) Didn't believe in democracy. They actually were very outspoken against it. Democracy in a classical sense means direct democracy

please forgive me, but I am not sure what your trying to say. The founders belief in powers of the general government was that it would be limited by the powers granted in article 1 section 8. All other powers not given in article 1 section 8 are reserved to states or the people. This was understood by the Federalists as well as the Radifying commitee's. The only strength the Federal Gov. has comes from the States collectively. And the process of law should be slow, that was the design.
