  • very good. I like the guitar seems to make a nice siound for a smallguitar. How do you go about finding how to use these triads to accompany almost any song

  • @adshedsyd

listening is half the battler + play as much as you can and experiment : something is bound to happen

  • Didn't anyone see "Sounder" with Taj Mahal's soundtrack? I've wanted to learn this song ever since. Thanks Daddy...

  • This is a good lesson!

The sound of your guitar is very nice which helps enjoy the vid :)

  • i love your guitar...what is it??

  • A cheap 1927 Supertone.

  • looks and sounds great

  • is this tuning EBEG#BE ?

  • It's in standard tuning EADGBE (low to high)

  • Hey Daddystovepipe ....i'm enjoing your lessons. I've just started using the finger picks. I have plastic thumb and tw metal fingers ....seems to be the popular option. Do you have any tips to stop the scraping noise's . I turn finger picks at an angle to make hit the sting flat at the moment ?

  • Thanks Dave.

I'm blessed with strong nails so I almost never use fingerpicks, apart from a plasic thumbpick (John Pears vintage model). If I use them I go for the Propick brand, they leave a large fleshy part of your finger open so the string is hit with a mix of flesh and metal of the pick which results in a less 'clangy' sound. Also experiment with the angle of the picks; go for the fullest sound. Happy pickin'!

  • Thanks Daddy , have grown the nails on the fingers and it seems to work well . I'm yet to find those thumbpicks but will some day !

  • @daveburnham Try Suncreek Music - click on John Pearse under manufacturers

  • @c692 Thank you !

  • @daddystovepipe Hi daddy. Do you mute at all the bass notes with your palm or it is just this technique thumbpick/flesh you describe above? I find it quite hard to modulate the sound of muted bass notes.

  • @Storyteller1986

The explanation above is about the Propicks - I use them very rarely but they are good because of the mixed sound flesh/pick.

I mute with the palm of my right hand but not always; let your ears be the judge : sometimes a bassnote that keeps on ringing is great, sometimes not. I sometimes let a bassnote ring when there's not much happening on the treble strings.

  • @daddystovepipe Hi daddy, thank you. Your videos are fantastic.

  • i cant understand how the open string thing works...when do i have to hit the open string?? :(

  • The open bass string is hit every beat with the thumb, the melody is played with the first and second fingers.

  • every beat, ok....it is quite hard too coordinate bass and melody ...i have to practice more

    thanks a lot daddy!

  • very nice daddy hey maybe someday you could teach us all befor you acuse me unpluged clapton style. thanks daddy

  • Thanks so much for the awesome lesson! I bought your cd online as a small token of my appreciation. Looking forward to exploring your pages more. I hope you will continue your good work here. I am about your age and getting a late start on this, but you have been a great help to me already.

  • Anyone willing to share knowledge without renumeration is aproaching sainthood. Be careful, they may want to martyr you, my friend.

  • All your lessons are excellent, and this is one of my favourites! Great material... well taught.

    Thanks for doing this!

  • Attn: Daddy Stove Pipe... Can I get all of your instructionals on one DVD...? I like your attention to details.

  • I'm a very lowtech person but will check it out and eventually announce it on my profile and in the text of the instructional vids.

I've heard people say there's software with which you can download the youtube vids so that would be a cheaper solution for you...

  • DSP, Ima come kidnap you for a month man. Awesome tune. Trying to adapt it for slide. Thanks for the lesson.

  • It is a beautiful track song. greetings from germany

  • My sentiments also about the great tone. It looks like this might be a slot head guitar, light strings? Are you using an internal pickup or a mic to record the sound. Whatever your setup is, it is excellent and enhanced by your playing ability & style. Thanks.

  • No special setup or enhancing; I record with the internal microphone of a JVC505E camcorder.

The guitar is a cheap Supertone, xl strings, from the late 20ies, ladderbraced, probably oak body.

Supertone was the brand Sears and Roebuck sold till somewhere in the late 30ies, then it changed to Silvertone.

My other Supertone with the airplane bridge, a top of the line model in those days, sold for $14.95!!! You can see it in some of my latest vids.

  • Thanks for sharing...what guitar is that?..great tone
