  • DESPUÉS DE ESTO, DIOS SEGURO QUE VENGA A SU MADRE Y ESTE ELEMENTO ACABARA EN EL INFIERNO.

  • @julioalcorcon - ESTOY TOTALMENTE DE ACUERDO, ESTE SR, TODO LO QUE TOCA LO ASESINA, TU COMENTARIO ES EXTRAORDINARIO. ENHORABUENA !! SALUDOS !!

  • Very very super marvellous!!

  • What a gorgeous man and quite talented... No wonder almost all of the audience are mesmerized as I am.

  • Not a real Bach nor Gounod ! Why he don't want to sing only italian repertoire ? Bad choice and bad musical taste !

  • Igazi lélek-hangszer!!!! :)

    I LOVE IT!!!!

  • I am an absolute Jose Cura fan, but his technique and voice are not suitable for this piece. You can't sing this Ave Maria like opera... I bet he also can't really sing Bach or any other pre-classic composers, but it does not stop me from liking him as a singer - as long as he sings what he really can sing.

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

  • That clapping trend was freaking me out...maybe them too! I like how he was able to rein it in. A stunning rendition. Marvelous!

  • Wow! Very talented. He's young and has a great future. Anyone that calls him a 'bad singer' is just ridiculous.

  • Was it just me or was there absolutely no build-up to the high section. It's like he was singing two completely different pieces of music. I thought his screaming was kind of inappropriate; I know its not marked piano there but this isn't turandot.

  • beautiful richly-toned voice -- but he can't hold a note very long it seems.

  • Beautiful singing. He's ahead of the beat through much it, however.

  • operadawg..."ahead of the beat" no, he is drop dead on. Except at about measure #20 when he starts the push...which everybody does.

  • Lots of singers do that, by allowing the beginning consonant of a word to slip out just before the beat, the important vowel sound is heard on the beat. Its a kind of poetic license singers allow themselves.

  • THE SPINTO you are an intelligent guy.

This is very pretty, and if he can get tenors away from wearing a big fat tux---all the best.

I wish he would keep his mouth open for the high notes and not do the Awe-Oh thing always--it kills the ring. no need to darken or cover those notes for him.

  • get to it! applause all the way!

  • Too fast, I think. And voice is weak. He can do better if he tried.

  • dddufus...."too fast" no. You may hear it as fast and that is because he is exactly on the beat.

  • I must cry....wonderful....

  • estoy deacuerdo contigo

  • IDOLO ARGENTINO

  • SIMPLY TOO FAST

  • Yeah, waayyy too fast

  • Jose's voice is beautiful warm, technically perfect. What can I say. Round full voice.

  • Ok to all VT's and regular humans:

The tempo is too fast for the beauty and line of the piece to come through.

His tech is what it is. If you don't like his "in the mouth", covered sound, I understand.

He has the abilty to sing anything, anyway he wants, so this is an artistic choice.

He is popular, and works all over the world. There are tenors on the horizon who don't have a "pretentious" vocal tone ,

    so don't despair.

  • I find that many posts ( the real negative ones with errors pointed out etc etc) are from young people who could not, possibly know the technique/ or problems envolved with vocal production.. Wonder what they base their opinions on.. oir if they even sing?????.. I am a voice teacher as well as a vocal coach.. just wondering?

  • Age does not equal knowledge, wljmrbill. While MOST young singers have a good deal of growing to do, you must remember, flores debuted at la scala at the age of 23...besides, isn't critiquing performances part of how young singers learn? Sure, kids think they know everything, but were you really that different when you were younger?

  • Handsome man, handsome voice. I love his tone.

  • I'm not as well trained in singing to say anything about his technique, but I love the timbre and the tone of his voice.

  • I really like his version, and I do not think he is exhibiting a big ego, actually the opposite.

  • Great tone and potential but horrible technique and some of the worst phrasing ever! He adds an "H" sound to any phrase with more notes than consonants, which is one the easiest things to correct and avoid. This is just pure bullshit, he shouldn't be singing on any stage of that size without having first mastered the ability to not sing "ave mahreheeyah" ugh!

  • That was also a consistent problem for Beniamino Gigli, brendant19. Are you saying he shouldn't have been able to sing on a stage of that size? All singers have their faults and all listeners have their own pet peeves.

  • @brendant19

thought I was the only one to notice the broken legato in every one of his phrases. Almost unlistenable. But what a talent nonetheless. What tone he could have by mastering the legato huh?

  • Domingo wanna be... and this bad. is this really what opera has become??? sigh :(

  • With Villazon, another tenor badly imitating Placido Domingo, with a double injection of EGO ala Domingo.

  • Totally agree. Domingo has natural carisma, a humble mans carisma, this guy is just arrogant, thats not a carisma, he does not have it, but still he thinks he has it. He has a pretty good voice with a poor and strange technique, and yeas maybe women like his machoimage, but thats about it! He is not worth of his salarys. He is not worth to sing in worlds leading houses. There are much more better Dramatic tenors today, one like Aleksandrs Antonenko forexample

  • I love Cura and his music!

I think he is not just a great singer and artist, but a very great man!!!

"I pray God that my mission as artist will bring some peace to the souls of whoever come across my work."

(José Cura, Introduction to Japan Concert Program, October 2001)

  • cosa e` grande!! suo passaggio e` brutto.

  • If this is good singing, then the criteria for what that actually means, have changed. A lot. Whoever taught him to open his mouth like he wants to swallow the conductor before every high note, should not be allowed to teach ever again. It's the most distracting thing I've ever seen. And he could reach those notes without doing that.

  • If you see lot of Arias from his shows. And if you see him playing the roles in theaters....then you´ll see that he have several resurces and tecnics. You can see how he preper the next note, depending the role or moment he plays, for example. You remember Pavarotti open his mouth wilder than this. Or Domingo open the mouth "from one side only", or Carreras proyecting the note or making a base from his neck to reach the note. Cura have several. You can like it or not, but the job its done.

  • Great Voice¡¡¡¡

  • wow. he went a little too rapid. a tad bit too early the whole time.

  • Great Argentinian tenor: Josè Cura

  • great man

  • Funny how all of you "critics" have never sang at any of the places Jose Cura has, nor has your so-called talent gotten you as far as his has, nor have you gotten any recognition for you mediocre opinion.

  • You're right. Are all this "opera experts" that good at their jobs ? And the most funny part is that they are wrong. They criticize him while he signs for the most important theatres .

  • Errr? Remember, music is an art and not everyone appreciates art the same way. To say that I need to have done what he has done to comment on any of his work is about as ignorant as saying that Tiger Woods doesnt need any coaches, teachers, or caddies because they are not as good of a golfer as he is.

If not turn on the TV and watch it for 5 min, you will see that "not as good commentary" occurs around you more often than you care to realize.

  • since when does someone have to know how to sing to know good singing? if someone sounds like crap doesn't everyone know it? so why does the opinions of someone who doesn't know how to sing change the validity of it... .

  • wow..hes rushed through that...i feel bad for the harpist.

  • I can only agree with LyricoSpinto¨Cura have a nice voice but he isnt able to sing fluently the big needed legato in a chambertonetechnique with the harp! This is the need.. Cura is not very good with his technique ...is he still better? Didnt hear him since 2006 live...

  • I liked this very much. A superb rendition.

  • ça c'est chanté comme une prière. Muy bien

  • What a wonderful nice, incredible voice, ...

  • I like this guy. The harpist is at fault here. The Soloist MUST sing his tempo, the instrument is there to enhance the voice and shouldnt be noticed, but here the harp sounds choppy and distracting. This is a wonderful voice overcoming a poor accompaniment. Very glad to have heard him, need to hear him showcase his voice in the right musical setting. Perhaps too the quality of this recording is not as good as it should be either

  • Sorry, but you are wrong - the accompaniment is Bach and the tenor's rhythm is wrong. There is nothing the harpist can do- she/he can slow or fast, but in this case the Gounod vocal line MUST stay in the rhythm to pull this off. I have sung it many times and this is what makes this piece so difficult, that and the exposed high not at the end. By the way "ven of ventrice" is flat, more problems with being a better voice than he is a musician

  • You are perhaps right about the "better voice than a musician." I think then that I wouldnt sing this arrangement. It puts the voice at a disadvantage in showcasing one's best musical and lyrical qualities, if you cannot lead the solo with your best phrasing and technique. in a natural flow. Hardly any of the major tenors sing any of the classics exactly the same way, but this piece is not really suited to him. My apologies to the harpist.

  • B H UUUUUUUUUUU BHUUUUUUU!!!!!!!

  • He's much too fast, and keeps being ahead of the harp and the orchestra. Unacceptable at this level. Otherwise his singing is quite good.

  • Who is the soloist here? Did you know the soloist always has control of the tempo?

  • Ugh. He destroyed it. Kept getting ahead of the harp. Gross.

  • Awesome tenor with an awesome voice and a talent for acting....and he's not too bad in the looks department either.

Larga vida a Jose Cura!' Berliner Morgenpost, July 2001

The Globe and Mail, March 2000

  • oh dear. it's beautiful, but there's no solemnity. perhaps if he'd sung a bit slower...

    Saludos

  • I liked Cura's voice and style when I first heard him on Operalla Contest... Very well justified; not just any regular rendition wherein a tenor would just belt out his lungs- Cura's rendition is prayerful, the way this song should be sung.

  • Beautiful!

I didn't expect such tender pianissimo from a dramatic tenor like Jose Cura.

    I'm impressed.
