Being a musician myself, I love/hate honesty but we need that as much as it may sting in order to keep music moving in the FORWARD direction. That being said here it is: I can respect your desire to re-create and innovate this song but my theory is, if you do a personal version of a cover and you don't at least equal the original (you don't always have to be better, just equal) then it probably was not meant to be " tweaked" or "chopped" even for the sake of expression.
