That is a fishing spider and not a brown recluse. BR's are not in CT and are much smaller and timid. I'm in the south and we have those down here.

Its a Gray Fishing Spider, also know as dock Spider.

When I first saw one of these, It was on a log in a creek and it  was huge and it scared me shitless!

And what made it worst was it had a small cricket frog in its mouth and the poor frog was still kicking ,gave me nightmares for weeks.

hey bud i live near you on the river and i'm not sure the genus/species/farmiliarus of this spider but we commonly call them water spiders or warf/dock spiders here, non poisonous but TOUGH bastards, i smashed one of similar size with a garden hoe and all i did was take off a leg, they are incredibly tough spiders and they move at the speed of light

Pretty sure it's already been answered, but I'm too lazy to go hunting...just in case it hasn't been, that's a dock spider. They're WAY creepier than tarantulas in my opinion, at least the latter are fuzzy.
