Never thought I would say it but I could never go back to a pick that flexes for any reason. I found that slippery picks work wonders with a series of 1/8 inch holes drilled in them.
The only thing with pick materials is that some are toxic or pose potential health hazards: Tortex/Delrin is formaldehyde based & Dupont recommends not even touching it. Polycarbonate/Lexan has Bisphenol A which has long been known for it's hazards. Guitarists literally shred the plastics & breath it in or others breath it in. U can see it on guitars & also becomes part of the dust in a room or club. Safest materials r probably: Nylon, celluloid, maybe ultex & acrylic.
I use the V-pick Screamers and I love them except for the price ($4.00 each) and the chirpy noise that happens sometimes. A V-pick lasts me about three weeks (they have three points, so one point per week) I change my strings every two weeks, or about every 30 hours playing. I have a Big Stubby, I'l try it again.
You should try v-picks. No flex, very thick 2.75 mm also .8mm to 11.85 mm available
I recommend the medium or large pointed 2.75 mm I like the freakishly large lite 1.5mm and I use the 5.65 mm psycho. They are better than the big stubby because they stick to your fingers, they are slick for a smooth release, thick with no flex ,faster than any jazz pick, plus at 4 bucks a pop they are much cheaper than most specialty picks, plus Vinni is cool.
i have tried so many picks the stubbys are great picks but the grip and the feel is not for me i prefer a jazz lll for the tonal properties and it is small, easy to maneuver and i can play super fast cleanly with no worries about ever dropping it.
But seriously the chubby rules, by the way have herard of leather picks? And do you know any tricks to minimizing the sound of the pick agains steel strings on an acoustig? With the electric there is no problem becouse that is not picked by the pickup, but I really hate the ticking noise the pick does against the steel strings.
Lexan is not real glass, I make real glass picks and you can see them on you tube "glass guitar pick" video.. and they have natural warm tones or i grind them down, so they are capable of producing lots of tones. click moe354sa to see the video. Lexan is not glass.
do a review on strings of some sort...you remind me of my brother, you two look alike and he plays just lke you, he does a lot of those fast riffs like that

I've used several picks, for Bass I use a Bug Stubby 3.0 or 2.0 Max Grip. But there's one pick series I've always trusted: Dunlop Tortex.
Specifically, the Green .88mm is great for anything.

To solve the "slip" factor...........go to your local guitar store (or order online) a product called "Gorilla Snot."
Guaranteed your plectrums will NEVER slip again!!

Nice review. Be great to compare with the V-Picks. I think they're plexiglass (acrylic) too.

Cool review!! What are your opinions on the Tortex and Gator Grip picks? Which one is better? Also, do you really lose tone with the Tortex picks??
BREAKIT97 3 years ago
I used them a few times. They feel good and stay in your hand. The tortex ones feel great but they lacked the strength that I like.
