  • Another one of my fave FWM/Stevie Nicks songs. I used to love "this is a dream right?" part!! hehe

  • aw this song is about her rehab and stay at the betty ford center. interesting

  • A recycled version of "Blue Lamp," which is far superior.

  • Oh, Sarah-Jane Smith! I miss thee!!!

  • I have noticed this album by The Mac used a lot more groove than previous albums

  • Yes! I've heard the demo versions of just about all of their songs and you're right, they always improve. I usually prefer Christine's songs a tad more because I'm a romantic and she sings about love. I notice also though that on the "Tusk" and "Mirage" albums, it seemed like Lindsay's songs were set to be louder than Christine's and Stevie's. It is a shame Stevie isnt apart of their songs harmonies all that much. What are your fave 3part harmonies from them? Mine are "The Chain" and "Honey Hi".

  • @PrinceMontrey My favorite FM 3-part harmony tunes are: (like you) Honey Hi; The Farmer's Daughter; Crystal; Gold Dust Woman; Bleed to Love Her (The Dance); The Chain; Think About Me; Dreams; Love in Store. I agree - just shameful that Lindsey did not incorporate his own group's superb harmony skills. His songs on Tusk are not Fleetwood Mac songs - the are Lindsey solo songs. Nine LB songs and NO vocals from Stevie (or even Christine from what I can tell). What a waste!

  • @redletter2008 You are so right! I couldn't believe he turned "Tusk" into his demo of songs before failing to make an impact with his "Law & Order" CD debut. It goes to show that Christine and Stevie had more love for Fleetwood Mac as a group and not their personal goals. That's another reason why I believe Christine's "Got A Hold On Me" and Stevie's "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" were so much more well received when they debuted. Besides "Holiday Road", Lindsay never really made an impact.IMO

  • @PrinceMontrey Yeah, LB was not really a "band" player. He only joined FM for "money" & to get his songs heard. Once they hit it big (almost immediately after joining) he wanted either to leave or control everything. Tusk is a prime example. On Fleetwood Mac & Rumours, it was Stevie & Chris that had the most success (LB did have #10 Go Your Own Way). He wanted to go in the complete other direction & forced FM to go along. Worse, he excluded the others on his NINE songs. Bad decision LB - BAD!

  • @redletter2008 Yes exactly. Actually I was watching some behind the scenes footage of LB, CM, and MF and the whole time CM and MF were telling LB he had to do interviews that night. However, he felt that it wasn't important and once again CM picked up his slack. I'm not denying that he's talented but it just goes to show, like you mentioned, he wasn't really about the band entirely. "Mirage", "Tango in the Night" and even "Behind the Mask" are my faves at this time because it was a group effort.

  • @PrinceMontrey Behind the Mask is generally considered a "sub-par" output by FM (mainly because they were without LB's artistic vision for the first time in 15 years). But what I like about it is the "group" effort they put into it. From the songwriting (lots of collaborations) to the vocals (Stevie, for a change, is singing on nearly all of the songs and does some great harmonies with Chris, Billy & Rick) BTM is a united effort. That was refreshing, especially after the fractured Tango LP.

  • @redletter2008 I agree! I think "behind the mask" is a great album! In fact, I begun to listen to FM when I bought this album, I was 16 and never heard of LB or Stevie or Christine...I just like the songs, the melodies, I couldn't stop listening to it! thier best records are (for me) "rumours" and "say you will"+the peter green FM-records of course! Now I've got all their albums exept "tango in the night",I like it but don't love it!

  • @lucrese1 I would recommend Tango. It faults are 1) Stevie's weakest contribution to FM to date; 2) Stevie's vocals are basically limited to 5 songs, 3 of which are her's; 3) a "fractured" sound of 3 seperate writers. Tango does have strengths, which IMO, outweigh its faults - 1) Christine delivers some of her greatest tracks (I like the non-single tracks best); Lindsey's songs are more mainstream & have incredible guitar work; 3) Seven Wonders - Stevie's standout track & one of her best for FM.

  • @redletter2008 I listened to this album you were right!thank you!

  • @lucrese1 No problem - thank you. I hope you enjoy Tango as much as I have the last 24 years. I go through periods when I listen to Tango constantly, followed by months where I don't listen to it at all. Tango is (IMO) better than Mirage, less "congested" than Tusk (LB's songs are a bore, except for title track & a couple others). Hidden Tango gems: Christine's Mystified; Stevie's When I See You Again; LB's Tango In The Night.

  • I love how Lindsey says "For Scarlett" at 2:27 and Christine chimes in with "For Scarlett" at 2:39. I love how they arrange their harmonies.

  • @PrinceMontrey Superb! Lindsey did (IMO) an extraordinary job producing this song. Listen to the demo and then this version and you can see how much he improved it. Lindsey had a knack for perfecting Stevie's songs. Also, it is mostly Stevie's (and some Christine songs) that serve as the "vehicle" for FM's vaunted 3-part harmonies. Perhaps it is only on Stevie's songs that all 5 FM members are present as Stevie was typically not there when CM/LB songs are recorded. That's a shame.

  • Has anyone ever noticed that the album cover bears a striking resemblance the Henri Rousseau's painting, The Snake Charmer.

  • @Anonymous1226 yes, i did. It' also written on the album (I've got the Vinyl and Cassette version, so I don't know about the CD). It's a painting by Brett-Livingstone Strong and it's called "Homage a Henri Rousseau".

P.S. I ADORE this song and this album.

  • @Anonymous1226 The Tango In The Night album cover really does look like the 1907 painting titled "The Snake Charmer" by Henri Rousseau. Good eye, I would have never known!

  • Man....I tell ya.....Stevie could sing anything.....and I'd just fall in love with it. Her voice just is so....incredible.

  • is it safe to say that even by Stevie standards, this is quite an odd, flighty song?...ive never heard an arrangement like this before. its definitely an interesting confection, fun to sing out of key with. :)

  • @achaserofrocks I wondered why it was selected. We now know that Stevie had DOZENS of other songs - many far superior to Welcome to the Room, Sara. In fact, Lindsey selected some of these for later FM records (Smile at You, Running Through the Garden, Goodbye Baby all made Say You Will and were great!). There were also Trouble in Shagri-La tracks available (Candlebright, Planets of the Universe). WTTRS rounded out a generally weak overall contribution by Nicks to Tango. She would rise again!

  • I am sure you have heard it a million times but it's spelled Sara

  • Tango In The Night is my fav album of all time. every track in this album is my fav :D

  • Ilike this song very much!

    「welcome to the room...sara」>「sara」(゜ー^)v

  • I don't understand why this song isn't CRAZY popular!?

  • @erinpoodle

too true. the lyrics are just sublime and when you have one of the best bands ever behind you it can't hurt.

  • Great song...from a great comeback album.

  • Little known track, i didnt even know Tango in the Night existed for a few years
