The lunatic authorities have threatened dire penalties to anyone removing the timber with the result that it's been polluting the beach for days and is now worthless. I expect that local taz payers will now face a bill for its removal. A few wide boys in lorries would have taken it for nothing. Sheer madness!!!
I wonder if the ship's owners would be so keen on clearing up the mess from Worthing beach if it had been an oil spill? No, they would have left it to local residents and volunteers to clear up the disgusting mess whilst they did a runner! They've probably claimed off the insurance for the cargo lost from the Ice Prince, now they want to make a bit more money from what they can pick up off Worthing beach!
Collect the wood as salvage, send in a form to the receiver of wrecks, claim some of the cost as a percentage of the value and invite the owners to collect it. However, the wood is waterlogged and will not be useful for anything much. Apparently it will be chopped up and used to make paper. What a waste!
