  • Always use this quote in doing something

  • i noticed it skips the 24 second...

  • Fk the CGI Yoda, Puppet Yoda is and will always be the best!

  • Yoda is a sith?!

"Only a sith deals in absolutes." - Obi Wan

  • Dumbledore says this in Harry Potter. This leads me to believe that Dumbledore and Yoda are the same person..thing.

  • Please don't flame me for this, but I always thought this was the stupidest piece of "wisdom" ever. Trying is attempting/intending to do something, regardless of the eventual do/do not/partially do.

  • @Spectic When you try, you're implying you may fail. Yoda has a problem with that.

  • aw, he's so cute!!!

  • If anyone else mentions the fucking prequels in an attempt to discredit Yoda's sagacious advice... I will not be held responsible for the ensuing flamewar, and may join in as well to diss your punk-ass for not showing due respect to the original trilogy.

  • Anakin: "If you are not with me, then you are my enemy."

Obi-Wan: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."

Yoda: "Do or do not, there is no try."

Now think about, what Yoda is after saying those words?

  • @Shogobg President Dubya Bush once said on national TeeVee news "If you are not with us, then you are with the enemy."

I believe Dubya is Analkin Skywookiee.

  • weird, yoda looks like master miyagi

  • All you need to say to Yoda then is: "I will try to do" I promise, he will explode or just shut up! xD

  • the only bits i liked watched where when yoda came on and jar jar lol

  • But Yode, I thought only siths deal in absolutes!

  • @TimmysHQ That's an absolute statement. See how corrupt the Jedi are? :P

  • @Paragon468

Yes but the absolutes that Annakin used were... um... about people... yes... ho ho, ha... about people they were.... yes... mmm.

  • @traebarlow Haha you're profile image is so well suited or that comment :P

  • @TimmysHQ

That has to be one of the worst star wars quotes ever. Doing good is always full of absolutes. "A jedi uses the force for knowledge and defence, NEVER for attack."

  • @kasrkinmullet I have to say I disagree, but only because I was so young when I watched Star Wars the first time-this really stuck with me out of everything and it (as cheesy as this is) affected the way I reacted towards problems and obstacles for the rest of my life :)

  • My Mom's response to when I say i'll try and get an A in Algebra.

  • I absolutely love this..its one of my favourites...in my line of work I have to help so many people believe in themselves...not to Try....To Do....The sub-conscious is waiting for the command...it does not compute to the word or meaning of try...it just DOES....

  • Yoda should make self-help tapes.

  • To try implies failure before you even start. If someone says they will try to come to your party etc, do you think they will make it?, but you cannot moan too much because they 'tried'.

  • try, there is no

  • @salazam On the other hand, they never seem to say these lines when thier lightsabers are ignited. Maybe they have an addiction to the light of thier lightsabers, so if they don't ignite them enough they start to go crazy!

  • There are several lines in these movies that sound good on the surface, but if you really think about it, they are rather absurd. "Do or do not, there is no try" - you have to practice (try) before you become an expert

"Search your feelings" - should I give them a patt down or a full body scan?

"Only a sith deals in absolutes"- that makes all reality (and everyone in it) a sith

"So uncivilized" - A one hit blaster is more merciful to a victim than a laser sword that butchers one to pieces

  • @asa15189 "Do or do not, there is no try" - The meaning is that you should give yourself a 100% to whatever you choose to do. Not believing you can achieve something will often lead to failure.

"Search your feelings" - This is of course applicable to force sensitives more so than us regular humans. :) You need to place this in context of the movies.

  • @asa15189 "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" - Again, you have to place this in context. This is a Jedi teaching, who have specialised over centuries to not let your emotion rule your decisions.

"So uncivilized" - The lightsaber was a symbol for what the Jedi order stood for, and was an extremely difficult weapon to wield. By those able to wield one, a blaster would be considered a barbaric weapon. I don't think the amount of pain inflicted plays a part in their perception of 'civil'. :)

  • @Digifruit "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" is an absolute statment in of itself. The jedi beleive "ablsolutely'' "ONLY" Sith deal in "absolutes". Good and evil are both absolutes, but at different spectrums. Good is the opposite of evil and evil is the opposite of good. There is no middle ground like Obi-Won's statment suggests. He shows he deals in absolutes because he then fights evil (Anakin) to the death. He does not offer compromise. "I wiill do what I must". Very absolute

  • @Digifruit Are you saying "civilized" is determined by skill? Don't the jedi believe their powers come from the force not skill? They are gifted at birth with an ability. They do not acquire this gift through skill, they just learn how to use it. Logically, this mean "civilized" refers to your midichlorean count, which seems absurd since these organisms can be used for the dark side as well. The whole thing lacks logic. Thier just razzle-dazzle quotes to make them sound poetic.

  • @asa15189 You could do this with any great saying. "Do or do not, there is no try." When Yoda says this he means, trying is the way of doubt. You believe you can do it but you question your abilities, your thoughts are negative and they will betray you. If you believe you can do, you are more likely to pass then fail because you have faith in yourself, the negativity does not cloud your judgement allowing you to focus and succeed. There is much more depth than you think.

  • @asa15189 Dying by a blade is more noble to a warrior than getting shot at. Eat a dick cunt.

  • @tkotomy Why is it more noble to die by a blade of energy than a bolt of energy? To think an inanimate object makes you noble is rather silly. It is the honorable cause you are fighting for that determines whether your death is noble not the manner of death. A warrior is one who has a warrior's heart not a warrior's weapon. As Yoda said, "Wars not make one great."

  • @asa15189 So you're going to tell the warriors of old what is and isn't noble? Clearly i'm not talking about Star Wars but say for instance the Samurai. That was what they liked. Get over it.

  • @tkotomy I don't care if samurai liked it. It's barbaric. Isn't nobleness a matter of the heart not a matter of weapons? I don't see how weapons of destruction are noble. Both a lightsaber and a blaster are both used to kill. I don't see how you can say assasins are noble. It is the cause that you fight for that makes a warrior noble.

  • @asa15189 Exactly. the cause you fight for makes you noble. not how many people youve killed or what you look like.

  • @tkotomy If you could go back in time and ask a warrior of old what is more noble, it wont matter to them. the objective of a soilder is to kill someone as effectively as possible. not to kill them in the nobelest way possible. (yes i know nobelest inst a word)

  • @Reycolombiano999 noblest is a word though ;)

  • Luke sure proved Yoda wrong! That's why he got so wide-eyed in the next part. :D

  • works !

  • Luke reminds me of a whiny teenager most of the time. Just saying.

  • @Mynameisnumber5 He pretty much IS a whiny teenager. I'm sure his aunt and uncle spoiled the crap out of him considering they knew his dad was dark lord of the empire and his mom was dead. (or maybe they beat the crap out of him every time the empire raised taxes or increased stormtrooper patrols BECAUSE his dad was dark lord of the empire).

  • @Mynameisnumber5 Well he's supposed to be. The character learns and grows as the movies go on.

  • @Mynameisnumber5 he's supposed to be.

  • @Mynameisnumber5 Seems to run in his family. :P

  • @Mynameisnumber5

At least his whining was more tolerable to a certain extent, compared to Anakin's. Luke's was more understandable in a sense.

  • This quote has been replaying in my head, since i began my pursuit in asking out my best girl friend-friend, and i've accomplished allot since then, i'm glad im sticking with DO.

  • Joker followed the Master's advice. Why don't you, Luke?

  • i have lived by those words ever sence i was 5 years old. i remember. there is no try only do , is what i would say.

  • @HeartPiece4u Amazing username.
