I didn't copy the information below from wikipedia -I "covered" it!
I see nothing wrong with covering a song as long as it has a different interpretation, there's nothing worse than a cover that sounds the same as the original.
This Mortal Coil was a gothic dream pop supergroup led by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD. Although Watts-Russell and John Fryer were technically the only two official members, the band's recorded output featured a large rotating cast of supporting artists, many of whom were signed to, or otherwise associated with, 4AD.
Oh a Chris Bell song formerly of Big Star. Killed in a car accident 1978. He was from Memphis him and Chilton were heavily influence by the Beatles. Just like Harry Nilsson was...
You were in desperate need to enhance the beauty of this etherical and pure song, but just did not know how to do it. Then it struck you: add some pictures of mutilated sheep and a dismembered human body! So classy of you.
@andraz89 Stole? Wtf is wrong with you? It's called 'covering' a song, and it's been done since the first song was ever written and another person sang it. What a friggin' moron tool you are! And them covering songs by these largely obscure/cult artists brought more awareness of those musicians. This is a beautiful cover btw.
@exile103 First of all who are to call me moron. You dont even know me. Yea they are covers nothing wrong with that if you pay respect but they made a lot of money and recognition becouse of that covers. And guys who really write this songs died young poor and obscure. Thats why i dont like This Mortal Coil they used talent of others made a lot of money and fame. i would never do that because i am not guess what A MORON. Real bands with talent write there own songs and put emotions in it.
@andraz89 sorry you're not a moron, you're retarded ... this mortal coil didn't make tons of money, they're not that famous, get a really test it's not like they've been spinning on MTV and filling stadiums ... lots of people got to discover or re discover Chris Bell and Tim Buckley, to name a few, thanks to TMC stop being such a drama queen
Pics were fine for me, accept the wet pillow pic made me cry. Otherwise I see nothing wrong here. Maybe it's because the pics were in and of themselves good, and also, I just love this song. Love it. :)
good song. No I guess the pics are not appropriate for tthe song, but it DID make me laugh bunches. So thanks for the good song and the unexpected laugh at the pic at 2:22
Monumental Song - Listened to it so much in my early twenties, mostly when alone on nights shifts !!!! - But truly beautiful piece and a massively under rated group of musicians
This version is even more haunting(Not saying it;s better just more haunting) with the femalle voices than the original by the great Chris Bell. This Mortal Coil what a grouping not only had they the sense to cover this but Kanaroo as well wonderful.
I bought this 4 cd set at a flea market 20+ years ago because it looked "weird", Damn, I sure am glad i took that 50 cent risk. People keep knocking the pics on the video, but hey, it took more effort and is better than a stagnant still of the cd cover.
this was the first version i heard, and still love the Pixie-esque vocals/string arrangements.. Usually I find when i get to hear the original I'm dissapointed.. yet with this one I actually prefer Chris bell's heartfelt vocals (r.i.p.)
and his real guitar as opposed to this one's 12-string sample.
..also the original lyric is 'Plans fail every day'- not -Friends.
@JoyDeVivre1 Thanks for the info., lyrics and original artist. I'll have to check it out. I like plans failing more than friends failing. It's a better lyric, actually. Plans fail....yes, yes. Cheers!
Please, everyone, don't get sad! It makes me sad. I'm sad about my late cat. I pray she's in peace. Such a loving cat, nothing but a giver. I miss her.
@Harryenhelga Hang in there, you're not alone. Try to look at what you've got. Like access to You Tube! Ha=ha. Anyway, don't be sad. Life is crazy. It aint easy. Peace to you.
@sharck968 oh come on , it was one inappropriate picture and you make it seem like its the whole video. true it was weird that one picture but god give them a break.
Well, the album is heavily avant-garde... it's quite beautiful and a masterpiece in it's own right, but definitely too strange for the mainstream types.
@lucianagillo Black Sheep: It's a great New Zealand horror movie about genetically altered sheep that attack. Make sure to watch the "unrated" version. Hilarious.
