i could never understand why critics are against fast and wild playing performed by guitar players. If the same solo would be played on a sax or keyboard and labeled as "free jazz" the same critics would appreciate it as "creative" , "outstanding" "powerplay", and so on.
sounds a bit like 80s holdsworth stuff but with more shred wanking. techically impressive but boring musically. i prefer lane on the two doors cd w/ shrieve where he lays back more.
@progjazzfusion I think hes aware its boring, but I think Shawn Lane's showing off is in a whole different league to anyone else, theres many stories out there of people who fall off their chairs, jaws literally drop, spit their beer over their shirt when seeing him play.
@cerelilqt - yeah i agree it's pretty amazing shredding, but it just doesn't move me when guys just shred without musicality, and I know lane can be musical, so i didnt think he would stoop to this nonmusical shred guy showoff level. i thought he was above that. i'm all for chops, but in a musical context, not in and of themselves just to impress people.
lane and rickman are so compatible as a duet...seriously some of the best improvised guitar-drum communication i've ever heard. they're both so dangerously good at what they do
They're very nice - the they're like double-cut Les Paul copies but tonally they're somewhere in between a Les Paul and an SG with a lot of sustain but the neck is very fast. The AR300 model has what is known as "trisound" switches, which allows for humbucker, single coil and reverse phase dual coil operation, very versatile tonally. The reissues are unfortunately very expensive but they're great.

It's an Ibanez that Shawn had made for him. I think called the Ghostrider.

Check out the body shape, inlays and pick up selector placement they're all different to the Ghostrider. It's definitely an ibanez Artist.

Yep. I've got an Artist that I play in some of my videos. It's an Artist all right. I can't play it like that though!
