This idiot doesn't understand the First Amendment, as far as I know Rush still has freedom of speech and association!! No One has the right to ownership in an NFL franchise, why don't idiots get an education?? I'm only 20yrs old and I understand that the NFL has a right to refuse to sell ownership in any of their teams to anyone they want!! By the way, middle-aged men who can't pull it off shouldn't dress like that, your youthfulness went away a long time ago, give up the ghost!!
NO but it should between Rush and the private party. Activism has it's place, and it's place was 20 years ago.
And making personal attacks about the guys appearance? Wow, was to disprove his point about the pettiness of the supposed "intellectually elite". Seriously?
2/3 of the world's oil and natural gas is in the Middle East. We're there and we're staying. As long as most democrats are commuting 50 or 60 miles a day in their cars, and the oil keeps flowing, they're not going to vote for their own forced self-sacrifice to ween them off the oil tit. Only the next oil shock will do that--something like 1979 or '73.
Rush will still get a stake in the deal. He just won't be able to brag about it every waking minute and sit in the owners box like an emperor looking down his subjects..
Fricken' awesome. About time someone called our left wing on their complete lack of accomplishing ANYTHING worthwhile as of late. Here's the tactical importance of Obama, whatever his policies are. Under Obama the US can exterminate the Republican Party and the Right Wing, including the Social Darwinist Paulistas.
If nothing else happened during Obama's adminstration that itself is worth solid gold.
If Fleetwood was very "brave" opposing Liberals on an issue that did not fit your own program, VivaCheObama, I doubt there would be any praise for him, eh.
You can shit yourself on that hypothetical all you wish.

You said it well, "who cares" I don't wish for Rush to catch his dick in his zipper and I don't want anything bad to happen to him. I don't like what he says so I don't listen to him.
I see where you are heading by saying the rich need more than apathy to continue to be successful. Personally, I have no idea why they do no see it themselves. I cannot fathom for a minute why they think a dumber population is a more desired population. I cannot understand why they can't see that a super-educated, intellectual society would be best not only for the masses, but for them as well. I have been watching them flush the affluent American society down the drain for years.
I am not completely hopeless: I hope you are right in that the tactic will not save the (erroneously called) Right's ass.
I say erroneously because I do not believe the super-rich to be "the Right." I believe they use "Right" rhetoric to consolidate their power. This is class warfare, not right ideology versus left ideology.
Ataraxia was itself a desired state to the intellectual elite of the ancients. I do see how a false ataraxia is a valuable political tool, and is used today very successfully. However, I do not call my state ataraxia, though perhaps with some thought, this is what I desire. My state is closer to lacking hope than to a blissful ignorance. I "stay in touch" with enough information to not enter the ataraxic state.
I do agree with Davis on every point he makes in this video. And perhaps the concerted attacks on the MSM and those who appear to be independent only to expose themselves as MSM shills (Robert Greenwald) by Davis and others (Glenn Greenwald) will eventually cut through the shameful conduct and end the corporate control of the USA. I applaud their effort. How can I help them? When I can, I support them. I see little other opportunity to make a difference.
Many of us, Mopsius, MANY OF US have reached the end of our ropes here in the USA. We have also become hopeless to change it. Millions of people marched in 2003, a billion worldwide?, to stop the invasion of Iraq. To no avail. That huge effort was worthless to stop the powers-that-be. Why hasn't there been a huge, peaceful revolution? There was. It did nothing. And honestly, I have no desire to be violent to achieve our ends. No desire whatsoever.

Read Octavio Paz--he points out in one place, as I recall, that instilling ataraxia is itself political tactic. The Right Wing uses it quite brilliantly at times. Won't save their asses but it does buy them time. Marcuse is also pertinent.
I have subscribed after you invited me to....but I do not agree with your comments about Limbaugh......What you don't understand is that Limabaugh, Sharpton, Hannity, Jackson.......all of them are BAD for the country......when Limbaugh made the comments about Donovan McNabb his record proved that he was one of the best Quarterbacks in the league......winning percentage, ranking etc. and he remains so, ranking about 4th....he attacked Colin Powell who is one our greatest Americans.......????

Economic historians at the end of the 21st Century will duly note about the defunct United States that, in a brief and fantastical history of two hundred and fifty years or so, no nation of its size, wed inseparably to slash and burn capitalism, Empire, and Social Darwinism, ever WASTED so many resources in so short a time.
The hilarious part is even if there were a real will to restore the economy by radical restructuring, the US elite is so disconnected from reality they would not even where to begin or how to go about it.
Will they export for profit Health Insurance to mainland China or Cuba?
HAHAHAHA.
A huge WPA working to restore the obsolete infrastructure?
Hilarious, isn't it? The Financial Capitalists with nothing but paper, which is not even the world reserve currency anymore, are going return to the status quo ante of 330 million dumbasses working for a company store of infinite debt credit, hehe.
Well, look at this way, if Americans are dumb enough to fall for this, over the the next three generations there will be enough real serfs to have a real revolution.
Make sure you leave a testament to your grandchildren telling them who you want killed.
I personally think we (the left) are weak because we're easy-going, flexible, and generally "live and let live" type of people. We want the common good. Conservative, however, don't give a shit if they step on your face on the way to the urinal. They couldn't care less if you die, and they'll gladly tell you that. They take no prisoners. We're the type to sneak into the prison and feed them.
The worst of the loan sharks are choir boys and angels of mercy compared to the Financial Capitalists at the top.
The outfit, for example, never did learn how to charge interest on the same "loan" by having the "loan" itself move through two or three different revolving doors.
Here's a little, seemingly harmless statement, with which perhaps 90 per cent of American economists and financiers will disagree, but which happens to be provably true in terms of their own presumptions abd behavior, to wit:
Not only are these Paulistas and Randians ignorant of how Marx defined "Capital", they are also ignorant of the fact that Marx's definitions are all grounded in David Ricardo, the founder of Classical Economics.
One notes also notes that Paul and his Paulistas, strong on the fraud and fantast Adam Smith, hardly ever come to grips with Ricardo.
Seriously! The Hermit is right! Grow some balls and lets get this health care shit OVER WITH! I mean COME ON...we're supposed to be the wealthiest nation in the world and we can't get this crap straight?
Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter make millions feeding the stupid "dittoheads" in this country a feast of hatred, racism and fear. Both of them are human scum. Oh - and Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat, idiot.
Nice copy of the SNL opening skit. Try a little originality. If it wasn't for youtube you'd be a nobody. Oh wait, you already are a nobody. Davis who?
You are a slobbering Ayn Rand moron, SuperAtheist.
The US is a predatory capitalist warfare state in the last financial capitalist monopolistic and imperialist stage, as defined by Lenin (in relation to Britain, Germany, and Austro-Hungary).
Your ideal "protocapitalism" is an invention of your febrile, solipsistic Ayn Rand imagination.
Capitalism is a stage in a process, not a final state.
yes the Marxist analysis was does claim that capitalism is a stage, but from a Gramsci influenced stance, once he published those predictions, the bourgeoisie acted to stop it. Ironically if he had kept his mouth shut it would all have gone far more smoothly.
YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. Too bad too many morons in this country cant see that. Capitalism would be great if it was a fair playing field but it is not. Corporations have poisoned the playing field.
You are using a naive definition of "capitalism", doncorleone818, replete with ideal fantasies like "the free market", "free enterprise", and so forth.
None of these items exist save in your imagination, and none pertain to "capitalism" as a system.
You probably think "capital" is "money", for example.
"Vigorish, or simply the vig, also known as juice or the take, is the amount charged by a bookmaker, or bookie, for his services. In the United States it also means the interest on a shark's loan."
"The term is Yiddish slang originating from the Russian word for winnings, vyigrysh. Bookmakers use this concept to make money on their wagers regardless of the outcome. Because of the vigorish concept, bookmakers should not have an interest in either side winning in a given sporting event. They are interested, instead, in getting equal action on each side of the event. In this way, the bookmaker minimizes his risk and always collects a small commission from the vigorish. "
The Right is a small miniroty. From the Neo-Cons to the Born Again to the Paulistas to the Corporate Fascist Imperialist Democrats, all they have to offer is endless debt slavery and war for you and your children and their children.
The Marxist Leninists have one central inescapable advantage--clear-heaed enomic understanding and predictiveness of systems.
Ironically, whatever industrialist capitalists are left, would really rather deal with Socialists or Communists than with the Financial Capitalist Monopoly.
The single most important item in Obama's presidency so far is that he and those around him are talking of "needing" support from the Right to escalate and continue the war in Afghanistan.
The single most pressing need of any new and significant left is a complete revaulation of ideas of property and ownership.
The Paulistas are trying to cooprt botht he word "reviltuion" nd "antiwr" as a means to reinstute an old, very vicious form of Social Darwinist Classical British Liberalism, which they call "Liberty".
Moreover, most of the "Libertarians" have been coopted by Randians and the Born Again.
I don't agree that most Libertarians are Objectivists. We may take from some of Rand's ideas but I don't know any Libertarian who is an orthodox "Randian." Where do you get that from?
The 60's were full of action, and it was very effective.
What began then, however failed for lack of a solid theoretical and economic framework and of a united front with the ability to endure an aging core of pure activists with no realistic program.
That was the opening into which the Religious Right and the Neo-Cons moved.
this video makes me laugh a little. god this guy is clueless. limbaugh also said that the "NFL is like watching the Bloods & Crips without weapons" and "Slavery had it's merits".
Davis sounds like someone who's been displaced by the liberal party. not a faithful member questioning things.
i agree with the 1st Amendment things, but also a corporation, stockholders of, advertisers, employees of and consumers have the RIGHT to say no to things that they find wrong. happens to be football...
rush didn't get a team b/c of a left-wing political movement. no one on the left stopped it. the people who were part of bid to buy the team have something called the "INTERNET" and searched "RUSH LIMBAUGH NFL" and heard what he said. then they said "yeah, Rush..not so much anymore..door's on the left."
anyone who believes they as a liberal had something to do with this are stupid. those who chastise those on the left for any part in it are even more stupid.
The left had a huge role to play because there was a petition started with a Liberal viewer video. That video was as all over TV, and over night they got thousands of signatures. Calling people stupid because your not informed isn't very wise.
I hear what you're saying, but being a liberal is more than just a trend. It's siding with one's fellow man against injustice and that should never go out of style.
Answer me. You aparently are afraid of yourself regardless. You either gotta use a differant name on your videos to make yourself seem more relevant or you absolutely spend day in and day out on the computer and that's who mopius is. Uh... war = football was done by Carlin a while ago.
Youtube... Carlin baseball football.
And it just wasn't the bs liberal letter campaign. You have to have 24 out of the 31 other team owners to give you an up vote. With so many African-American players saying they would never play for a team with Rush as owner (Considering a substantial part of the Players' Union being... oh I don't know... THEM!).... It's hard to imagine how a bigot didn't get to buy into a private organization.

I have been watching them flush the affluent American society down the drain for years.

Have you read Veblen?
The ultimate sign of elite status nowadays is display of immunity from consequences.
By a roundabout if secure chain that leads to eventually to the triumph of real over feigned incompetence.
mopsius 2 years ago
I am not completely hopeless: I hope you are right in that the tactic will not save the (erroneously called) Right's ass.
I say erroneously because I do not believe the super-rich to be "the Right." I believe they use "Right" rhetoric to consolidate their power. This is class warfare, not right ideology versus left ideology.
iween 2 years ago
I define both Republicans and most Democrats as Right.
Sure--they are mostly hired hands.
Marcuse is very pertinent on the class aspect.
mopsius 2 years ago
Every easily definable movement in opposition will be coopted and turned into another item powering the status quo.
True enough. Fleetwood has that part down.
But there is a hole there you can drive a Mack Truck through.
Just requires some thinking. Or maybe for others no real thinking at all.
mopsius 2 years ago
Can you show the hole to us? Succinctly? Are you saying that the movement needs the little victories along the way to continue the fight?

Ataraxia was itself a desired state to the intellectual elite of the ancients. I do see how a false ataraxia is a valuable political tool, and is used today very successfully. However, I do not call my state ataraxia, though perhaps with some thought, this is what I desire. My state is closer to lacking hope than to a blissful ignorance. I "stay in touch" with enough information to not enter the ataraxic state.
iween 2 years ago
Indeed--apathy is the better term in a political context perhaps.
But ataraxia also has its uses.
I am not a big fan of hope.
The fact is the elite cannot function with general apathy either--but they have not grasped that yet.
They have to control alternately apathy and enthusiasm.
I could give historical examples (Hellenistic Egypt) but it would take some time.

Your ideal "protocapitalism" is an invention of your febrile, solipsistic Ayn Rand imagination.
Capitalism is a stage in a process, not a final state.
Capitalists always buy any state that is buyable.

yes the Marxist analysis was does claim that capitalism is a stage, but from a Gramsci influenced stance, once he published those predictions, the bourgeoisie acted to stop it. Ironically if he had kept his mouth shut it would all have gone far more smoothly.

"Vigorish, or simply the vig, also known as juice or the take, is the amount charged by a bookmaker, or bookie, for his services. In the United States it also means the interest on a shark's loan."

mopsius 2 years ago
"The term is Yiddish slang originating from the Russian word for winnings, vyigrysh. Bookmakers use this concept to make money on their wagers regardless of the outcome. Because of the vigorish concept, bookmakers should not have an interest in either side winning in a given sporting event. They are interested, instead, in getting equal action on each side of the event. In this way, the bookmaker minimizes his risk and always collects a small commission from the vigorish. "

Only about eleven percent of the work force is industrial and most of them are controlled by coopted and Fascist Unions.
There will be no "Socialist" Revolution or Evolution by the "working class" in the sense of the industrial working class.
The Fascists have coopted them for the most part.

Successful revolutions are almost never led exclusively by members of the most exploited classes.
There is always a collective leadership of many different layers and class members who have seen the inevitability of real change from the bottom up.
Action is necessary but it must be well grounded theoretically and the timing must be perfect.
mopsius 2 years ago
The 60's were full of action, and it was very effective.
What began then, however failed for lack of a solid theoretical and economic framework and of a united front with the ability to endure an aging core of pure activists with no realistic program.
