Its not always to make it look bigger but to make it look more like a western. This comes from contouring changing the shape and then adding the highlight to make it stand out. Because many don't have the prominent bridge of the nose.

Ok people. First of all, gyaru is a fashion in japan.

They tan themselves to look more western.

While I don't like the overly done gyaru, the girls in this video are not overdone, and it's pretty, I think.

You can look online on how to get this look. Their hair is thick like that because a lot of them have fusion hair extensions. You can even see where they're connected in some of those videos.
