The career mode on this game is awesome and very realistic. Top Spin 4 beats it on gameplay though and the fact it has the license. If you combined the two together and had SCT's career mode with Top Spin gameplay and licensing then I think that'd be the best tennis game ever. Top Spin's career mode is ok, and the events are better than silly training games but one tournament a month is poor and you should start ranked 250 and work your way up with no levels.
It's great, however I find it a little slow and quite difficult, I can't seem to lunge for long shots, like you can in topspin, my player seems to give up even when im pressing all the buttons!
This game is boring before u figure out how to angle yout shots and hit nice shots. One thing i havent figured out yet is really how to aim the serve, thats pretty tricky. Anyone got a good tip let me know :D
@oggge92 play the tutorial but the trick is to press the button to release the ball when the ball is at it's highest point press the button again with the direction you want it needs pratice to master it if you want my help my XBL gamertag is supinesmokey13

wow just from watching 10 seconds of this; the ball dynamics for smash court tennis are so much more realistic than VT3. topspin 3 is still has the most realistic gameplay but this game looks really fun too.
VT09 ( and VT3 BTW ) is the worst tennis game ever made. No realism, no challenge. After only five matches, I could beat Federer pretty easily with my amateur player.
With the powerful video cards that are present in consoles and pc's, I am not impressed with what I am seeing. Games like this should be perfect, with no questions asked.
The ball physics did it for me on this game. VT2009 was awful and TS3 the movement of the players is not good and frustrating. SCT3 though moves at a real pace, has real angles and the the only game with realistic serving (aces) and its got the 'challenges'

I remember "roland garros, powered by smash court tennis" a game that had rally bad reviews, but for me it was the best tennis game in the PS2. That game has the best world circuit mode i´ve ever seen , but just because it wasn´t a "virtua tennis" reviewers dind´t like it. A brutal shame.

I can't understand why they won't make a somewhat realistic tennis game? In all the tennis games I have ever played (including virtua Tennis, topspin) it has been like this: Whatever I do, my shots can't go out or in the net. Every shot that a player does lands superbly on the line. Never goes ot of the pitch. Where's the realism in that? It's not even fun

@freehand1000 if your shots are too weak they go into net other than that u can can miss the lines if ur timing is bad u will make lots of errors if not you will miss the normally few at the lines
Just picked SCT3 for £7 new, very impressed with it so far. It's not perfect, some running, stepping in/out animations need improving, better crowd atmosphere and improved graphics would be nice to see in the 4th one if its done.
Cant really compare to Top Spin 3 (only played demo wasnt too impressed). Virtua Tennis 3 is fun, but for me its a step back from Virtua Tennis 2.
At the moment i hate this game, its too bloody difficult. I tell the dude to hit the ball over to the left and he hits at a little left of the middle.

Is this game's Pro Tour mode hard at all? Im always stuck on the grand slam challenges on the Virtua Tennis series. I occasionally get some wins but it's still far too frustrating
@QuadTurboV10HellCat if you manage your character right and carefully you will have no problems at all...i for example created an exceptional serve&volley player and nobody can stop me in tour mode...the pisture is simple - i serve, i rush the net, second shot - i win...period...fuck those boring baseline looking for luck cases...

I don't know why this game recieved such bad reviews. Beautiful graphics/animations lovely sound/ music, even the controls aren't bad at all, and the replay value is just priceless. To hell with the haters. Buy this game and keep it. Much props go out to Namco Bandai/Atari for taking time with this game.
I bought SCT3 for XBOX360 last night @ GameStop for $4.99, and I love it!! They had me thinking I was going to end up taking it back for a refund or exchange. But I'm completely hooked, this is a definite keeper even 10-15 years from now. And I hadn't seen any other tennis games worth playing since NEC's Davis Cup Tennis on Turbo Grafx-16. But this brings back all of those good feelings and memories I had playing an addictive tennis game from 11pm to well pass 6 in the morning.
Don't believe the reviews! This is the best tennis game I've ever played! As a tennis player myself, it is so realistic and fluid. The tennis is fun to play, because the character models move like actual tennis players. Buy this game, it's so cheap because it is so underrated, that you'll be so happy you got one of the greatest tennis games for so cheap.

VT 2009 is the most enjoyable tennis game i have ever played.. i know it's someway far from realistic.. but playing VT gives you a lot of fun and action..
i've played VT2009 for a while...i've given it a chance and i must say i agree on that its the most FAST GET INTO kind of tennis game of all three...but it isnt most enjoyable...another annoying fact about VT2009 is that its plain glitchy and buggy...styles are messed up and i cant get the desired style of ply to work perfectly for me...sometimes when i adjust one or another style my player become to weak or too strong, to fast or too slow etc...so styles are fucked in vt2009...
another case is that VT2009 lacks classical white clothes to customize my character, that can make look elegant my character...i cant make woman classical...clothes either too tight or in return it makes characters look to fat...there're no balance to make player just PRETTY...
...also volleying system in VT2009 pretty weak and premetive compared to amazing SCT3's system, when you can finish point with step volley, fly volley or whatever...
...for example if you serve in SCT3 and it was pretty powerful or cheaty, then you won time to immediatly rush the net and win the point with your second shot...you cant do that in VT2009 you have to MAKE YOUR WAY to the net in order to finish the point and power and angle of shots at net in VT2009 are much less effective compared to SCT3...etc...

...by the way i played online once (when it was allowed to use LIVE in our country) against Nadal opponent, and i clearly won in straight sets with 6:2 6:3 6:3 score or something with my serve&volley God...seriously when i play him, there's no passing shot that can stop me

i give you only one advice...never look at game reviewers they arent objective...try the game yourself its the best thing you can do...i dont know your tastes and prefferances in tennis games, but one thing i can tell you for sure...if you like Top Spin 3 realism and VT2009's fun factor, then you gonna like this...or should atleast...

also those frustrating serve is also a metter of time...if you raise your character's serve&volley stat to above 15 (20 maximum) you'll be REALLY surprise how suddenly serve controls transforms from PLAIN FRUSTRATING to IMPRESSIVLY COMFORT !
...so my point is everything frustrating about controls of SCT3 is just a metter of stats of your player...

ive played all 3 of them on rentals. The controls on top spin 3 aren't annoying at all once you master them, which does not take much doing, it comes naturally just by playing it. It easily has the best career mode of the 3. SCT 3 seemed too cartoony and felt more like i was playing in an arcade. I like my games to be as realistic as possible and Top Spin 3 is the most realistic. Its just my opinion though.

Well thats your opinion. and i regularly play tennis in real life for your information. All im saying is i've played all 3 and Top Spin 3 was the funnest to play overall.
I have both Smash Court Tennis 3 and Top Spin 3 for the 360 and I can say that while Top Spin 3 has great graphics (one of the better games overall in graphics) and while it does have good concepts like the way you have to time the backswing and let go of the button, Smash Court Tennis 3 does play like how tennis is played in real life. Top Spin 3 did do well to slow down some gameplay, but things such as running is way too slow. Also they make hitting huge shots always difficult no matter.
well...i'd even say at some points of your player advance it could feel like you take a part in tennis era of Borg-McEnroe or Agassi-Sampras...because sometimes SCT3 feels like lost feeling of what magnificient tennis game used to be 20 years ago, where at first place it was show for public pleasure, artistism and all other positive things...if you really played well that game i think you should be able to agree with me...and if you like classic tennis offcourse...
so i'm all about serve&volley ! ...i like this play style the most and its a huge let down in my opinion that this style takes secondary role in nowdays tennis, unlik its got ty be back then in the prime times of serve&volley fairytale...
...i mean like players back then rushed the net with an exceptional confidence, that they'll finish the point by the step volley, volley or drive volley shot whatever...it was like...well..they was coming to the net without any nerves and confusion, thus why it caused them to attack with 90% of result... i mean like in 90% of such rushes ended by winning points...
look what its today...players come to the net, not because they like to do that, but because they forced to do that, and that unpleasable metter of things cause them to loose their concentration and confidence, which leads usually to panic movements, which further usually followed by unforced errors, hitting the ball out of court or right in the net...and those unconfident tries are boring to watch, making you think rather let this point be finished already, other then WOW what a volley shot !
offcourse tennis back then lacks what tennis has now, such as powerful as hell shots, higher paces etc etc etc...but all those things are nothing in comparison of what tennis world lost since old tennis era, such things like i mentioned above...i wont repeat...i'll only add one more thing that also players movements on court was much like weightless, like feathers, not all...but that was considerable standard, which everyone tried to take example of...
...while players today try to take an example of baseline attacks, hard hitting and defensive tennis...if i were one of tournament organizers or someone even higher i'd completely change court to play faster, i;d certainly make grass court like it should be, not like its is today, i'd make also RG torunament green clay and made it much faster also...and one thing i'd do with a great pleasure its i'd have given all players wooden raquets ! hehe...lets see after that where Nadal would be...
okay frist time you'll find controls a lil bit frustrating, because of how everything moves slow...but believe me, if you develop your player further in carrier and raise his/her stats, you wont even believe how fast and precissive he can become ! ...
even morei can say...its increadible how created player develop in SCT3...you can make a real God from your player in almost ALL aspects...and i'm not joking...if you have xbox 360 then you really try this game...believe me there's NO better tennis game than this...its simply amazing...

virtua 3 , top spin 3 and Smash Court Tennis 3 . Smash Court Tennis 3 has the best game play by far. virtua 3 is for kids and top spin is very irritating .
..well in Smash Court Tennis 3 you need to press more than one button two...and i agree with flotech66 SCT3 is really the best...it has the best and the most realistic gameplay from all of those three game titles...i even managed to create Steffi Graf in SCT3 and she really looked like Steffi in real life...which hardly seems to happen when i try to create her in VT or Top Spin games...
and as much as i preffer more Serve&Volley style of play, other than baseline or all arounder than this game is true gem for me...i can do like 80+ % jf volley shots, known in real life under increadibly realistic angles, with highest ever precision...that is only possible in SCT3 by far...you can never make your player Volley God in Top Spin 3, only just a GOOD volleyer, but not a legend like Navratilova or Graf...
Finally, a tennis game that doesn't suck ass. I'll be buying this, the ball speed and everything else seems pretty accurate compared with when you're ACTUALLY playing, and the characters aren't retarded like in the Top Spin series

I don't know why this game recieved such bad reviews. Beautiful graphics/animations lovely sound/ music, even the controls aren't bad at all, and the replay value is just priceless. To hell with the haters. Buy this game and keep it. Much props go out to Namco Bandai/Atari for taking time with this game.

I bought SCT3 for XBOX360 last night @ GameStop for $4.99, and I love it!! They had me thinking I was going to end up taking it back for a refund or exchange. But I'm completely hooked, this is a definite keeper even 10-15 years from now. And I hadn't seen any other tennis games worth playing since NEC's Davis Cup Tennis on Turbo Grafx-16. But this brings back all of those good feelings and memories I had playing an addictive tennis game from 11pm to well pass 6 in the morning.

Don't believe the reviews! This is the best tennis game I've ever played! As a tennis player myself, it is so realistic and fluid. The tennis is fun to play, because the character models move like actual tennis players. Buy this game, it's so cheap because it is so underrated, that you'll be so happy you got one of the greatest tennis games for so cheap.

i've played VT2009 for a while...i've given it a chance and i must say i agree on that its the most FAST GET INTO kind of tennis game of all three...but it isnt most enjoyable...another annoying fact about VT2009 is that its plain glitchy and buggy...styles are messed up and i cant get the desired style of ply to work perfectly for me...sometimes when i adjust one or another style my player become to weak or too strong, to fast or too slow etc...so styles are fucked in vt2009...

another case is that VT2009 lacks classical white clothes to customize my character, that can make look elegant my character...i cant make woman classical...clothes either too tight or in return it makes characters look to fat...there're no balance to make player just PRETTY...
...also volleying system in VT2009 pretty weak and premetive compared to amazing SCT3's system, when you can finish point with step volley, fly volley or whatever...

...for example if you serve in SCT3 and it was pretty powerful or cheaty, then you won time to immediatly rush the net and win the point with your second shot...you cant do that in VT2009 you have to MAKE YOUR WAY to the net in order to finish the point and power and angle of shots at net in VT2009 are much less effective compared to SCT3...etc...

this is better than topspin 3 for me ive got both games and topspin 3 is played at a really slow pace and when im playing a match on it im not even thinking about hitting winners im just trying to keep the ball in play as its hard to play.

i mean i liked much more old system...charge+attack other then charge+release+attack...its plain frustrating when the powerful ball is coming and you're like half of the baseline away from the place it could land, so that you have not only to calculate when to attack (release finger), but also you need to control the situation so, that the ball would be comfortable to control further...enought talk...one word frustrating...

i give you only one advice...never look at game reviewers they arent objective...try the game yourself its the best thing you can do...i dont know your tastes and prefferances in tennis games, but one thing i can tell you for sure...if you like Top Spin 3 realism and VT2009's fun factor, then you gonna like this...or should atleast...

also those frustrating serve is also a metter of time...if you raise your character's serve&volley stat to above 15 (20 maximum) you'll be REALLY surprise how suddenly serve controls transforms from PLAIN FRUSTRATING to IMPRESSIVLY COMFORT !
...so my point is everything frustrating about controls of SCT3 is just a metter of stats of your player...

ive played all 3 of them on rentals. The controls on top spin 3 aren't annoying at all once you master them, which does not take much doing, it comes naturally just by playing it. It easily has the best career mode of the 3. SCT 3 seemed too cartoony and felt more like i was playing in an arcade. I like my games to be as realistic as possible and Top Spin 3 is the most realistic. Its just my opinion though.

I have both Smash Court Tennis 3 and Top Spin 3 for the 360 and I can say that while Top Spin 3 has great graphics (one of the better games overall in graphics) and while it does have good concepts like the way you have to time the backswing and let go of the button, Smash Court Tennis 3 does play like how tennis is played in real life. Top Spin 3 did do well to slow down some gameplay, but things such as running is way too slow. Also they make hitting huge shots always difficult no matter.

look what its today...players come to the net, not because they like to do that, but because they forced to do that, and that unpleasable metter of things cause them to loose their concentration and confidence, which leads usually to panic movements, which further usually followed by unforced errors, hitting the ball out of court or right in the net...and those unconfident tries are boring to watch, making you think rather let this point be finished already, other then WOW what a volley shot !

and as much as i preffer more Serve&Volley style of play, other than baseline or all arounder than this game is true gem for me...i can do like 80+ % jf volley shots, known in real life under increadibly realistic angles, with highest ever precision...that is only possible in SCT3 by far...you can never make your player Volley God in Top Spin 3, only just a GOOD volleyer, but not a legend like Navratilova or Graf...
