Evita remains a sadly dismissed film. It's not perfect but deserves much higher praise than it has received to date. The directing, the musical score, Antonio Bandera's intense performance as Che' is nothing less than stellar and Madonna-one of the most reviled and hated actresses ever-delivers a remarkable, emotional and award winning portrayal of Eva Peron. Though some see it as nothing more than a long form music video- Madonna truly is an actress here & deserves respect for this film.
Madonna did a great job in this musical movie about Evita, great honor to Madonna and ofcourse the real Evita. And Marilyn Monroe to but she hadn´t enything to do with it, but i adore her to.

@valleyguy72 I was a fan of Madonna in the early days but she lost the plot in the late 90's when she started believing her own press. Evita was a total assault on your ears from start to finished. I cant ever remember feeling so mentally drained and glad it was all over after watching any other film. Clearly the other half of the audience felt the same after only half an hour of it. Hand on heart I have never seen people leave a cinema on mass like that before, truly dreadful.
The director was amazing for this movie, but I feel like Madonna was such a let down. This song is Eva's final stand. There is so much more that she could have done to make it great. Also, Patti Lupone's "A New Argentina" far surpasses anything Madonna can ever do

An example of an atrociously directed (you can almost hear the camera cranking up for each scene) and acted film. Madonna's idea of acting is to stare wanly into the camera trying to show an expression and ends up looking like she has constipation. She takes self-consciousness to a whole new level. Why DIDN'T they cut this song? It dragged the picture down. By this time in the picture there was already WAY too many dying scenes. This scene proved that Madonna is INCAPABLE of moving an audience to tears. When the people of argentina are crying you just can't buy it.
She won a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical comedy with her excellent performance in this movie. She was pregnant to her doughter at the time. Great song, great actress, great star. Long live the Queen with your children.
I actually have never seen this movie but I am familiar with the original cast recordings. This is one of my favourite songs from the musical and its a shame that they did it in this style. Such a great song, didn't deserve to be sung a capella and in a gasping manner.

Having completed a novel on Eva Peron, I must say that this death scene is not realistic. I do not believe with all the research I have done that Eva Peron regretted what she had achieved. This death scene represents ALW's view of women rather than the true story of Eva Peron.

She was not even nominated for an oscar that year yet she won the Golden Globe for her role. Even though she was not nominated she was still classy enough to go to the Oscars and perform a song from the movie.

but the third wife never got it and Peron himself he had any std disease. thirdly it might just have been conwinsendence sorry i think i spelt the word wrong. you get cervical cancer or uterine cancer which ever one she died of without having sex with someone and u must remeber evita was sexually active before Peron so she could have gotten it from anyonelse and finally they not sure which one she died of whether it was cervical or uterine. only evita, peron and their circle know

Why DIDN'T they cut this song? It dragged the picture down. By this time in the picture there was already WAY too many dying scenes. This scene proved that Madonna is INCAPABLE of moving an audience to tears. When the people of argentina are crying you just can't buy it.

She won a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical comedy with her excellent performance in this movie. She was pregnant to her doughter at the time. Great song, great actress, great star. Long live the Queen with your children.

I actually have never seen this movie but I am familiar with the original cast recordings. This is one of my favourite songs from the musical and its a shame that they did it in this style. Such a great song, didn't deserve to be sung a capella and in a gasping manner.

they went for acting instead of singing, Madonna might have the weakest voice of the Evitas, but she had the best acting scenes, especially this one. i know its a musical, but this look more real sang this way.
