Flagrant head butt. This was really uncalled for, especially since he hit Freire (who is a true sportsman and a all round nice guy). He was boxed in and desperate to get out. He shoulda taken out his aggression on himself for letting himself get boxed in in the final meters. Oh well, he still wouldn't have beaten the Ale-Jet.

McEwen was boxed in and clearly tried to force Freire out of his way by bumping him--that a spectator pushed him is a lame excuse. He is a strong sprinter (one of the best), but he can be dirty at times--on several occasions you can see yelling at him a sprinter he has cut off (Thor Hushovd, for example, 2006 Tour).

In contrast, look at Petacchi, who holds his line and uses pure power to win the sprint. McEwen, on the other hand, by so violently clashing with Freire, unclips and knocks his sunglasses, costing him the win, or at least a decent run for it.

mcewen unclipped his pedal and hit Freire. It was an accident, these things always happen. If you don't believe me then ask yourself why would mcewen challenge Freire when he is in front of mcewen. Any racer would know that's not a good idea. Hushovd in the 2006 tour was just frustrated that his foot unclipped. If he wasn't relegated then you know it's fair game. This isn't basketball, there isn't such thing as dirty riding, we can review the finishing sprint many times.
