I am American and would never trade our republic for a monarchy. Having said that, I still greatly admire Elizabeth II for her duty and dignity. It is a rare quality these days. You see in America, we only have a temporary leader that we elect every four years. But in Britain, their leader, the Queen has her job for life. We don't have that sense of continuity.
I was born British and by God, I always will be British. No matter what happens, no matter what the republicans do, no matter what nationalists do, nothing will stop me being British. God save Her Britannic Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and God bless the British Empire!
I bear no anymosity to the queen, per se.But why hold her up as a representation of 'pride'? She,just like everyone else,is an accident of birth. It's not even as if the last 1000 years of history where monarchy is concerned has been wholly British.I love my country & am happy to be a Brit' but that shouldn't mean I have to get a flag out & wave it like a loon every time the queen puts in an apperance in public.
Everyone is born equal, apart from some people who are apparently above this rule of law. They're not even British (from Germany I believe) so stop all this foolhardy flag waving for people who show a outdated politically incorrect system of corruption and needless wars.

@sk8rhammy the point is he could have been born anywhere in the world and be just as patriotic about another country. what does pride have to do with it? its not like youve accomplished anything by being born in a particular place. patriotism is an illusion and it breeds segregation. so theres pride in the fact that at one point in history a group of dominant men stumbled across a piece of land and decided to name it their own? countries are just pieces of land formed by imaginary lines.

@alexandertory no id probably just learn how grateful i am to not live in either of those countries.
thats where i get confused, pride? what does pride have to do with it? its not like youve accomplished anything by being born here, its based on pure chance. appreciation is one thing, but pride?
Although this is a British piece, after 9/11 it had a new meaning to me- Undying loyalty and love for a nation even though it's not perfect. Such a beautiful song.
I see images of our great past, listen to such wonderful music- all so evocative of a greater time, and it makes me feel sad. As a 19 year old I missed it, I missed my country in her prime and her glory. Now she is a decaying shadow of her former self, ruled by lying and corrupt politicians who bicker over trivialites and ignore what is important. Only our great monarchy give us anything left to have pride in, and some want to get rid of that! So similar to the final days of the Roman Empire...
one day we take revenge of Iraq and Afghanistan we take all over of uk, pakistan army clear you in a map you fucker then we fuck your mama ,papa , your sister ,your wife we share yr women one by one we Muslim fuck you in your town and sister we have special plan for her we fuck her in street then all we given her a cup of urine to drink then we found fun, most important we kill your mother but before we rape yr mother again and agian but that`s very sad that day yr r a dad man hahahahahahaha
ironic the qween has seen the empire at the top of the world, the largest empire ever and probebly the greatest empire ever seen, she has ruled at the time when it was all washed away and she rules now, an empire that returns for a few moments in these songs, and echo of past greatness and a whisper of a great future.
god save the qween, the commenwealth, the empire, the united kingdom and all its subjects
At last! I will come to Britain! Just for two and a half months but I don't mind! I will enjoy each and every day that I'll be allowed to spend in this glorious country! I'm really looking forward to it! May you be blessed, you great British people!! And may my time in England be blessed as well!
Im not much of a monarchist to be honest but I am enormously proud to be English and of being a European. William is popular and I hope he is our next king.
I know that this is a tribute for Great Britain, but I fell in love with England, its people and culture. I'm Dutch you see and I used to drink coffee :P But that has changed. Just like I sometimes walk on the left of the road to understand what it feels like to be an Englishman. And whenever I see images and videos about England, I get this strong feeling like I've been there before. Hm, maybe in a previous life... And imagine how beautiful England would be if she actually was a woman!
I love this song, and I think the Queen has done a great job, but I think it's significant that it's "I vow to thee my country", not "I vow to thee my Queen".
Britain made plenty of mistakes in it's history. The Empire, where the sun never set and the blood never dried, was it's main one. It could have achieved as much just by it's technology. And there were grubby underhanded acts aplenty along the way. But right or wrong it's my country and I think the world would have been a poorer place in history had it not played such a significant role in international affairs. Great video.
@Snedger Actually, the Empire was a very good thing. Not only did it bring things such as infrastructure and boost the economies of local areas, it also brought law and order. There were bad things, yes, but those were far outweighed by the good. Britain never would of been as great as it was and is, without the Empire, and the world would of been far behind what it is today, without it.
@Snedger NEVER for even a second believe that. Britain's empire did far more for the world than any other power. the cure to small pox, the unification in communication, the technology, the safety of the empire ( who wants to mess with a small country say somalia when it has 1/4 of the world to back it up. there were dark moments, but these served to only dampen, not extinguish the flame of the empires glory!
@02Blackbeard Without the UK their would be no America without the UK their would be no president so look up your history and thank us for what we have turned you into. Of course everyone loves independence every one wants it so its not unnatural to rebel against the mother country. Stand true to your TRUE color and originate..
@callos1232 I have nothing for which to thank the Queen. And I think you will find that if you read your history it was the westerners who swept across the globe enslaving and killing blacks, redskins, native people everywhere.
In fact all property "owned" by the Queen and her scum everywhere, (even in the UK) was obtained by murder and theft, and is still held by the power of the sword. The royals are nothing but a shit load of parasites.
@02Blackbeard Of course not. I'm not trying to excuse Britain's past, just saying you can't really use it as a stick to beat us with because most countries and civilisations have a similar record. And if they don't it wasn't through want of trying. This is a fault of the human condition, not one particular region, country or family.
Prince Philip turned 90 this week. And he seems to be in robust health, although he is curtailing his activities.
If Elizabeth matches his age, that is if she lives to be 90, she will be the longest reigning monarch in British history and the longest reigning queen anywhere, anytime. She is already Britain's oldest serving monarch.
If QEII is still alive on 10th September 2015, age 89, she will have outdone Victoria's record of 63 years, 216 days.
@MrZadokthePriest I rspect the queen but Phillip is and always has been a liability to the Uk monarchy, he is an ignorant pontificating buffoon and the sooner he leaves his mortal coil the better
Can we have our stone of destiny back so we can appoint a true monarch of Scotland please or do we really have to wait until England goes bust and we buy it back in exchange for a barrel of oil
@alastairellis Scotland has the stone of destiny back it is on display in Edinburgh Castle with the honours of Scotland where it stays unless it is needed for a coronation where it travel to Westminster where the monarch who acording to ancient Scottish tradition sits on it and is crowned in the name of the United Kingdom including Scotland and the Commonwealth
It is interesting how it was a monarchy that we originally ran away from, but at times I catch myself envious of the fact y'all have a royal family... A group of people a country can rally around, unlike our shifty politicians...
Again, such a beautiful song, for such beautiful family which characterizes a country we share a beautiful friendship with. Long live the bond between the U.K. and the U.S.A.
Americans swear to their flag...-Imagine our children swearing to our flag using I vow as their oath...-Ive sworn and carried this in my heart all my life....Beautiful song xxxx
@IrishUnionist1990 I wish ireland had never left the uk too but was mostrly our fault because of usless polititions who did nothing. At least this time the brits came to your aid. Thanks for greating our queen with respect.
This is Britain. And in this glittering sea, this perfect fusion of man and mineral, we know that conflict will always perish in the brotherhood of Flags.
WE,who understand what it is to have "STANDARD" will do all we can to protect the world! The COMMONWEALTH is just that.we number greater than all other nations, for all of us are "ONE"!!
I am a proud American Anglophyle. I've always admired the Royal Family and think the Queen is one of the most remarkable people of the 20th and now the 21th Century. She has weathered criticism and I'm sure deep disappointments with grace and today is admired by the world. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!
Your video is a lovely tribute to her Royal Highness! Thanks for sharing.
I whould like Price Willaim to become King of amarica and change our flang, and make our laws far and re-name amarica "New England" the british loyalest of amarica whould stand up for change if there where a little suport from Mother England
Actually MacQuacker(Duck). Obama Bin Laden isn't "balck" strictly! He's a MULATO . And even some of your countrymen think has no right to be President because he wasn't born there!! He reminds me of another mouthpiece faker - Mandela! Promised everything and delivered nothing! No sorry that's not right - 30,000 murders/year. And in closing I'd just say shut up and enjoy the music
Actuakky MacQuacker(Duck). Obama Bin Laden isn't "balck" strictly! He's a MULATO . And even some of your countrymen think has no right to be President because he wasn't born there!! @JohnGangster2009 Good to see you are proud to be English. As long as you remember that makes you a citizen of the 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'.
Aren't these words the only essence a country needs? Aren't these words everything that make the United Kingdom so special and so extraordinary? I'm German and though the only country I feel associated with is the United Kingdom. Why is that? Because the UK and the British people embody everything that once paved the way of triumph for our western values. Because you still live those values of bravery, loyalty and the awareness of your glorious history. I bow before your country.
@Nathanderweise8 Sir, you have so eloquently articulated my feelings. No nation is perfect and all have regrets; but, when weighed against the good, the world was a better place when the sun never set on the British Empire. An American
@Nathanderweise8 I think that is a wonderful comment from Germany! I am British and have a great deal of respect for Germany and spent a lot of time travelling there. (I have a feeling - no evidence for it though - that I have one of the largest amounts of private films from Germany on you tube.) I am very glad that we are now united in the EU!!
@alonmerlin Those scum are no Brits. Brits are gentlemen. They are soldiers at heart. They are proud to be led by Her Majesty. They are proud of Britain's vast and rich history. And over all they are proud to be part of such a brilliant country. No country has a history and tradition as great as The United Kingdom's.
@kldudmp i know i am british mate and since i am from the commenwealth i grew up with the classics its just sad to see whats becoming of the mother land
@Nathanderweise8 I can only say: THANK YOU VERY MUCH from the bottom of my heart. I REALLY would like that all Germans think as you instead of trying to destroy the UK from the inside through the European Union.
I love the video but think that Diana ought really to have had a larger part in it, seeing as it was her favourite hymn, and she did make an enormous contribution to the royal family and the world, and certainly had a great sense of duty.
Where a Republic has a full codified constitution, the UK does not, meaning, the Queen has far more power than any head of state, but hardly anyone knows this.
@melonhead82 The royal family officially is head of state but have very little actual power. They act as a failsafe. Id argue that the president has far more power - america's system is basically the english one from the 1700s but with king and prime minster combined. Id say that is far too much power for one man elected or not. A head of state with no power allows us to judge PMs (who actually run the country) mercilessly as it strips them of the loyalty head of state has
Actualy, seeing as though the United Kingdom does not have a codified constitution with set rules and orders, the Queen as alot more power, but political evolution has taken place, rather than actual constitutional drafting.
The USA is set up on and actual constitution, setting out who has what power.
Theres no reral definition of power of a Prime Minister in the British "Constitution" it just evolved.
In theory, the Queen has more power, but its just not seen.
@melonhead82 UK does have a constitution - our law which is based entirely of 100s of years ofhistorical precedent - most historians and experts agree that UK is probably the only country that can get away with that wheras america's is so recent and because of the revolution had to make up lost time and so is clearly defined. In UK's case its murky because it not set out in nice neat document. For example "R v Knowles, ex parte Somersett (1772)" might explain the pros to not having one
There are 3 nations without a Codified Constitution: Uk, New Zealand and Isreal.
Studying USA Politics, its not as simple as it may seem. The language is older than 1700's, it can be interprated in many different ways, the President only has half a page of powers, and even then, they are examined by congress. Only real power the President has witout Congress's say so is pardoning.
@melonhead82 I think US' politics is by no means simple - its just easier to define than british because it doesnt have the history and so required a written codified constitution. NZ and israel were former british colonies who didnt leave the empire under violent terms in the way that america did so that explains the similarities. I wouldnt say america is inferior, just different but to be honest i guess its better the devil you know. Id say they both have turned out ok right?
I know they were, but America's system needs to evolve. Its constitution is old and needs changing for the present day, thats why I prefer the UK "constitution", its easy to adapt to the times we are in.
The USA constitution has its good points, but it needs modernising. There should be a comprimise between the 2 systems, basic set of laws in document, not so much as a constitution, but something to set the country in line, but laws that can be added and removed for changes.
@melonhead82 i'm not sure I agree. I think the US system is primarily one that limits the power of government. I believe that is a good thing. Unfortunately, politicians have taken so many liberties while "interpreting" the original meaning of the document. Fortunately, people are now coming to their senses again, realizing what has happened. The power of government must be limited to ensure freedom for the people.
@tewkewl Government as in the Presidential cabinet, yes that is good. Congress anyway has full control over domestic policy.
I dislike Politicians as it is, both in the British system and the American system. Both have forgotten the main issue, the people. Thats why I prefer expertise of a Monarch, after all, the American system is taking from the old British 1600/(early)1700 political system.
I think that britain isnt only a country ; its a lifestyle !!
When i was in britain first i had so much prejudicious ( im austrian !) but when i saw this (lets call it:) glory and this proudness of the british people i started thinkin that theres something higher than not just a country. since my first holiday in britain every time im landing anywhere in britain and im going out of plain im breething deeply in and saying to myself : Now I'm at home !! God save the whole royal family!!!
@SEPII1000 - WOW!! How honestly and articulately put - thank you for such kind words about us! It's wonderful to hear someone NOT from Britain saying something nice and good about us - we usually get such negative comments.... for being so proud and loyal. Thank you - you're a good person - and YOU GET US! Next time you're here - check out Manchester (if you haven't already) - you'll love it here!! Cathy, Manc
@SEPII1000 Britain is our mother country, all our children are welcomed HOME, the commonwealth, the english speaking world, brothers across the seas, god bless long live the Queen!!!!!!
@mattybmattyb Nobody wanted war except Hitler. There were many appeasers including the prime minister himself. David was one, too, because he had a good amount of German blood in him, and he was willing to do most anything to avoid war with his own kind. Many myths and false stories about his involvement with the Nazis exist, too. I recall him talking about his visits to Germany on TV talk shows in the 1960s. He did his very best to avoid war, and God bless him for that.
I fully support your sentiments regarding the monarchy, with the small respectful disagreement with your comment on Edward VIII. He abdicated for the best of reasons, for love. Surely there are few who could argue with that. He did not neglect his duty as much as he followed his heart. I am an unapologetic monarchist, don't get me wrong. I just think that people have the right to follow their heart, even if it means they miss out on being King.
Leaving Edward VIII in makes sense, as his image is followed by that of the Queen Mother, but you should cut in immediately between the two a cut of either George VI or both George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother together...it would make the point you seek so much more powerful.
makes me proud to be english i am english through and through and always will be

ILLER121 3 months ago
@ILLER121 you dont understand patriotism,, if you want to learn quickly move somewhere ike Iran or Iraq you will soon learn how proud you are to be British....
alexandertory 3 months ago
@alexandertory no id probably just learn how grateful i am to not live in either of those countries.
thats where i get confused, pride? what does pride have to do with it? its not like youve accomplished anything by being born here, its based on pure chance. appreciation is one thing, but pride?

Although this is a British piece, after 9/11 it had a new meaning to me- Undying loyalty and love for a nation even though it's not perfect. Such a beautiful song.
GreenEyesBlueSkies7 4 months ago
I see images of our great past, listen to such wonderful music- all so evocative of a greater time, and it makes me feel sad. As a 19 year old I missed it, I missed my country in her prime and her glory. Now she is a decaying shadow of her former self, ruled by lying and corrupt politicians who bicker over trivialites and ignore what is important. Only our great monarchy give us anything left to have pride in, and some want to get rid of that! So similar to the final days of the Roman Empire...

Snedger 7 months ago
@Snedger Actually, the Empire was a very good thing. Not only did it bring things such as infrastructure and boost the economies of local areas, it also brought law and order. There were bad things, yes, but those were far outweighed by the good. Britain never would of been as great as it was and is, without the Empire, and the world would of been far behind what it is today, without it.
Solarian2495 7 months ago
@Snedger NEVER for even a second believe that. Britain's empire did far more for the world than any other power. the cure to small pox, the unification in communication, the technology, the safety of the empire ( who wants to mess with a small country say somalia when it has 1/4 of the world to back it up. there were dark moments, but these served to only dampen, not extinguish the flame of the empires glory!

And by the way, I live in the UK.

02Blackbeard 6 months ago

Here's hoping. God save the Queen!

It is interesting how it was a monarchy that we originally ran away from, but at times I catch myself envious of the fact y'all have a royal family... A group of people a country can rally around, unlike our shifty politicians...

She has more power.
Where a Republic has a full codified constitution, the UK does not, meaning, the Queen has far more power than any head of state, but hardly anyone knows this.
melonhead82 9 months ago
@melonhead82 The royal family officially is head of state but have very little actual power. They act as a failsafe. Id argue that the president has far more power - america's system is basically the english one from the 1700s but with king and prime minster combined. Id say that is far too much power for one man elected or not. A head of state with no power allows us to judge PMs (who actually run the country) mercilessly as it strips them of the loyalty head of state has
StumpyHead 9 months ago
@StumpyHead
In theory, the Queen has more power, but its just not seen.
melonhead82 9 months ago
@melonhead82 UK does have a constitution - our law which is based entirely of 100s of years ofhistorical precedent - most historians and experts agree that UK is probably the only country that can get away with that wheras america's is so recent and because of the revolution had to make up lost time and so is clearly defined. In UK's case its murky because it not set out in nice neat document. For example "R v Knowles, ex parte Somersett (1772)" might explain the pros to not having one
StumpyHead 9 months ago
@StumpyHead
I like the UK system as it is.
melonhead82 9 months ago
@melonhead82 I think US' politics is by no means simple - its just easier to define than british because it doesnt have the history and so required a written codified constitution. NZ and israel were former british colonies who didnt leave the empire under violent terms in the way that america did so that explains the similarities. I wouldnt say america is inferior, just different but to be honest i guess its better the devil you know. Id say they both have turned out ok right?
StumpyHead 9 months ago
@StumpyHead
Maybe.
I know they were, but America's system needs to evolve. Its constitution is old and needs changing for the present day, thats why I prefer the UK "constitution", its easy to adapt to the times we are in.
The USA constitution has its good points, but it needs modernising. There should be a comprimise between the 2 systems, basic set of laws in document, not so much as a constitution, but something to set the country in line, but laws that can be added and removed for changes.
melonhead82 9 months ago
@melonhead82 i'm not sure I agree. I think the US system is primarily one that limits the power of government. I believe that is a good thing. Unfortunately, politicians have taken so many liberties while "interpreting" the original meaning of the document. Fortunately, people are now coming to their senses again, realizing what has happened. The power of government must be limited to ensure freedom for the people.
tewkewl 9 months ago
@tewkewl Government as in the Presidential cabinet, yes that is good. Congress anyway has full control over domestic policy.
I dislike Politicians as it is, both in the British system and the American system. Both have forgotten the main issue, the people. Thats why I prefer expertise of a Monarch, after all, the American system is taking from the old British 1600/(early)1700 political system.
