  • Gabe, the posting was meant to address someone elses post...sorry for the confusion

  • did you ever come up with an insulation factor?

  • @CriterionCoIIection "ya..recycling is horrible for the environment...idiot!"

Hey! True story: I heard they are recycling nuclear bombs into electricity! That's SO GREEN! Yayyyy! Or maybe they'll start recycling concrete from abandoned parking lots and turn them into dams for electricity! (Never mind those pesky salmon, or hell...The rivers themselves, God knows we NEED our microwave ovens!)

Recycling won't save us, fool. Only organized, political resistance will.

  • @gabepinnick mindless psychobabble!

  • @CriterionCoIIection If you knew a fraction of the reality of plastic pollution, and it's impact on the planet, you'd work to stop it's manufacturing, AND its use. Plastic is incompatible with life on Earth, literally, nothing on Earth can consume plastic. The ONLY way something can be good for the environment is if it can decay, give back to the land, and turn into more life. Pop quiz: What's the difference between styrofoam in a landfill & in a concrete dome? A: Nothin, it'll always be there.

  • @gabepinnick Pop quiz: What's the difference between styrofoam in a landfill & in a concrete dome?

The dome is actually being useful?

What else should be done with styrofoam that already exists?

    Burn?

    Bury?

Use it in construction *BING* we have a winner.

  • @gabepinnick Gabe, you are correct, plastic is incompatible with life on earth with the exception of human life .....plastic is in and on everything you use and touch on a daily basis....I don't think you will stop using your plastic encased computer keyboard or cell phone casing anytime soon in the name of saving the planet....we all must do our part to recycle whenever possible...

  • to gabepinnick: How is this horrible for the environment?

  • horrible for the environment

  • @gabepinnick It's actually good for the environment. Now there is a use for all of that wasted styrofoam. DUH.

  • @303Miles No Duh.. This is scattering the styrofoam all over the place.. It should be reused for the same things it was produced for, which is fairly easy - by that I mean packaging.

Concrete is even worse.. Don't you know the amounts of CO2 produced in the process of making Portland cement..

You are wrong, gabepinnick is right..

  • @HGNnet ya..recycling is horrible for the environment...idiot!

  • @gabepinnick lol! you're an idiot!

  • How does this stand up to wind? This looks cool. Is it expensive?

  • how much did it cost and how did u get the first concrete layer on the rebar

  • "More sudable for colder climates" lol

  • cry about tacoluvr

  • TRRthemetal, He is right. They are using expanded polystyrene beads (EPS). Styrofoam is a brand name. It is like when you use the frisbee to refer to a flying disc toy or use the word kleenex to refer to facial tissues.

  • Can I safely assume you are actually using expanded polystyrene beads? And I wonder of Dow Chemical Company knows you are using their brand name.

  • Good concept. But Styrofoam is a brand name, not a specific product. You should have told the actual type of foam that was used in the mix.

  • I have been saying this would be a great way to insulate glad to see it put into action using cast off material. Another mix can be used with newspaper and a fire retardant to coat the interior then seal with plaster and chicken wire, this will more than make the structure affordable and well insulated. It would satisfy the most finicky of people too. Please use fiber optics to lite the structure. Place a solar oven on the south side of the home. Use solar air heaters to provide radiant heating

  • Build the dome 1or2 leave spikes for bales to impale bamboo or iron then place straw bale on the outside this would insulate greatly require a little more concrete footing or brick to accommodate any design but baling a dome could break up the shape maintain strength, provide a platform ideal for solar gain, solar oven, deeper windows, allow pipes to be placed where normally would look unwise, or simply make it look like a castle all possibilities. Please kick this on around Go Straw concrete dome.

  • You might want to build a wider door to accomoddate preconstructed modules to speed construction of your larger dome projects. Even if you just make a removeable jam that would allow for this maybe even a hospitol bed you never know your future you could have so many opportunities lost if your door way is too small. Hand truck bath room/kitchen modules fork lifted from small flatbeds completely built elsewhere making the dome process centrally controlled to reduce price improve quality.

  • Much like we now have mobile homes these can now turn into mobile domes of the dome would be set but the tennants could remove their modules quickly.Leaving clean interior ready for the next group or setup. Remodel in a day?. Site built homes cost plenty they need all the professionals to provide service on time this takes all that out the equasion wiring plumbing could all be done centrally.Want radiant heating no problem just use light weight materials in the floor or simply add mix on site.
