Fear, ignorance & the lack of medicinal assistance/funds, the state abandoned the Lepers until Father Damiens arrival. He'd hike up the mountain side (1,200 ft) to retrieve supplies, built shelters/housing, a church, an irrigational system & yet still found time to do the same for the people Up top in the city of the non-lepers. I love you Father Damien. Mahalo nui loa for helping my family. Our people. Mahalo for the video!
Doesn't matter where the Blessed Father Damian came from. It's what he has done that matters. I visited the house where he was born a couple of times in the late 70's. You can see a lot of items that where from him and where taken from Molokaï to be exposed there. Even the first coffin he was buried in. Shame on all those who commercialize his memory! That is what Tremelo is waiting for. Lots of people to spend lots of money there. The ceremonies should be taken place in MolokaÏ! Not Tremelo.
