Bill Shatner doing the stunt here - this guy was out in the desert in his

spare time riding quad-bikes and stuff and showed up at the set with

bruises and scratches half the time - took only care of his face - and he

was pretty good on horseback too. He definitely had too much energy,

guess that´s why he overacted so often in TOS

he "over acted" (matter of opinion) because of his stage training. Shatner came from theatre and moved into television, and theatre requires movements and voices to often be exaggerated, and he'd ham things up to grab the back rows- He carried this through to his tv work.

"Spectre of the Gun" always confused me. Not my favorite episode. One of my least favorites for decades, until I went back recently and watched it again a couple of times and realized what they had pulled off! Note the drop-kick fight scene with the bad guys standing frozen in place watching! I hadn't caught that before! Very well directed with lights and an original musical score by Jeery Fielding.
