  • Guy is a fucking hammer hitter on drums, live makes it all the more awe inspiring. Who is this guy drumming for now? Also props to the cut off jean shorts... epic 90s

  • 12 People need to die...

  • @Garkar2006 Downward is Heavenward is every bit as good as YPAA, if not better. Truly good, moody, heavy CD.

  • God I miss the 90s.

  • from candy ass to hell fire, still love it.

  • Damn.. this so is too sick. Wish Hum had as many good songs as this. YPAA is a great album anyway. Highly influential.

  • @ALT980 One of the most underrated bands - period.

  • You have realize that Nirvana stole there sound to though. Pixies, Meatheads, and so on.

  • @LucyWithFur Don't try and start crap with two amazing bands you asshole!

  • @Ztroyer105 I was replying to someones comment about nirvana, smashing pumpkins, and hum. and some of there similarities. Stop overreacting on the fucking internet. What are you too cool to talk about bands without being a cynical asshole. Fucking Music Police on Youtube over here......that guy

  • @LucyWithFur So I'm over reacting... Are trolling? Nirvana is one of my all time favourite bands ,and so is Hum you just said "You have realize that Nirvana stole there sound" Nirvana started in 1987 and Hum started in 1989, How in anyway does Fillet Show sound like Bleach? Please read your own comment!

  • @Ztroyer105 You read my comment wrong I didn't mean Nirvana was influenced/stole hum's sound. I said Nirvana was Influenced/stole there sound from bands like the pixies and the meatheads. Misread

  • @LucyWithFur Ok then ,sorry I misread.

  • 00:44 suyhfijksldñfsdfsdf SUPER FUZZ D:

  • They were the inspiration for the DEFTONES becoming a band. You can definitely hear the influence they had on Chino on the (passenger) trac with Maynard. They had major influence on alot of bands today. It's like if radiohead and the Melvins had a baby it would be Hum. Way underrated band.

  • @elmotot2 I was surprised to read that - but you're correct...

  • wow they copied nirvanas style

  • @ZombieBunny501 How so?

  • @ZombieBunny501 idk they sound alot like them, but i guess all rock bands sounded like that in the 90s

  • damn you 240p!

  • The lead singer, Matt Talbott is one of my professors in College at Millikin University. Just thought i would throw that out there :D

  • Thanks Saints Row 2 for showing me this song

  • I loved this song instantly upon first hearing it, on the original LIVE105.

Gotta love the crooning vocal buried beneath the somewhat overwrought heavy-metal instrumentation. The vocalist is the Anti-Roth.

  • "Live Performance Special" Yeah no shit!

  • I miss the 90's.

  • This is a song you would absolutely HAVE to play last and trash everything!

  • One of my friend's bands in college was directly influenced by Hum.

  • i never heard of these guys before, wish i did in the 90's. Are they still around?

  • @416mcp Nope, they broke up in 2000. Sorry!

  • @gaelicviking They are currently touring! Google it! So freaking sweet!

  • @rexgeist WHERE? I LOOKED BUT COULDNT FIND ANYTHING. I NEED LINKS

  • @gaelicviking they make "appearances" for the right amount of cash... I heard they will be coming out of the wood work here for the AV Club... o_0

  • If one song has to go into the 1000 year time capsule I vote for this one......

  • and the award for best dressed band goes to.

  • Wow! Early nineties was my time for music.... how did I ever miss these guys???

Thank you, Saints Row 2!!! =P

  • @CheesePlow lol i bought saints row yesterday, thats why im here,

F*k the Sons of Samedi :D

  • @josuerkrr Hahahaha!! Insurance Fraud FTW! =P

  • @CheesePlow LOL :D

  • good song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!! --Take me back to the early-mid 90's, great music!!!

  • The 90's - When music didn't fucking suck.

  • You moved me, why did you quit?

  • ha ha ha, the drummer fucked up his drumstick twirl at 0:48

  • When I was rockin in high school like 15 years ago... I wanted to be these guys and Sunny Day mixed together...

  • Bryan St. Pere is a f'ing monster on the drums!

  • Youd prefer an astronaut is one of the most underrated indy alt rock albums of all time. this and the first foo fighters cd were my top picks back then.

  • It's REM songs played by Black Sabbath.

  • Hum always deserved more.

  • Check those glasses. Hehe.

  • If Hum was a girl, I would be all over her.

  • the band that influenced a million other bands. Decades ahead of its time.

  • Drummer and vocalist are not solid. The recorded version is much better.

  • this is not how i pictiured them...but i love the song.

  • this song and band blow

  • @Facialcream13 You blow harder

  • 10 people in a bang are upset because, when watching this, they realized that they had spent way to much focus on appearing cool instead of writing good music. no substance and all that stuff...

  • Is this the old MTV studio?

  • @PietRock85 It sure looks like it, especially with the 120 Minutes banner. Ahhhh... those were the good 'ol days.

  • the problem with radio is that you don't hear great bands like this anymore...time for a revolution

  • @40fingersrocks Funny enough, the radio introduced me to HUM. I heard "Stars" on 101.9 RXP here in New York, and I was blown away. There will always be radio stations out there playing good music. :D

  • @zvx490 me too

  • This isn't nerd rock lol. whatever that is.. this is just smart shoegaze style heavy indie or whatever you wanna dub it as :P

  • oh HUM!!!

  • 10 people thinks they missed the train to mars, their out back counting stars

  • this song kick ass very heavy fx

  • 10 people missed the train to mars

  • is he wearing a Bix t-shirt???????? the Bix is like 20 miles from where i live. small world.

  • Looks to me to be before they were really comfortable with themselves and that just makes it that much more impressive.. Just look how young they are in this one, can't remember when they started, but this couldn't have been long after they got signed (or just before), hook me up if you know for sure! Awesome, thanks!;)~

  • Smashing Pumpkins half brother!! Love it

  • Gotta love this shit! They don't make'em like this anymore!

  • Drummer loses time alot in this performance!

  • @elixergtarist

Its poor video quality, he's an insane drummer.

  • One of my absolute fave bands EVER! NEVER WILL THERE BE ANOTHER BAND WITH EVEN A FRACTION OF THE TALENT THESE GUYS HAD/HAVE!

  • Hum should be remembered as the best band from the 90's. Too bad greatness in music is based an being a commercial sellout.

  • Weezer should do this cover (since so many other bands have.. may as have a band like Weezer nail it).

  • @davehanson11 I can see it being done well by them, considering how well they did the Pixies' 'Velouria', but unfortunately, they don't seem to be moving artistically in the direction where it would be a possibility. What a shame. R.I.P. Weezer.

  • this song has been in my head for yeeeeaaarss... since college, back in the mid 90s - CHICO!!! ultimate garage band. Raw, loud, heavy. Love this sh*t. One of the best hooks I have ever heard. The drums and rhythm guitar are so loud that the recording equipment cannot fully pick it up.

  • damn they sound really good live!

  • The tapes in a box in my garage.

  • I remember this got a lot of play on the radio from anytime after 9PM when I as in 8th grade. What a great song to fall asleep to. I never knew who the band was for the longest time until a few years ago. I just knew it by the opening line.

  • That about right for me on the Drums i act the same way lol :D

  • I just realized this was for MTV's "120 Minutes" a great show!!!

  • OH MY FUCKIN GOD this is pretty good

  • best band ever

  • @skippydeenice What! you for real ?

  • @Hats1976 ok not the best ever but one of my personal favorites :)

  • @skippydeenice Well I bought the cd back in 95 when it came out because I liked the song, but was disappointed in the rest of the cd. I guess it only takes one song.

  • @Hats1976 i love the whole album, it's great

  • Phenomenal Atmospherics and kick ass tunage + heaviness, and immense lyrics what more can a clone ask for?? HUM >> Smashing Pumpkins.... end of discussion. HuM mission control.

  • Saw these guys live with Bush, and the Toadies!!

  • the singer looks like a grown up version of the kid from Jerry McGuire!

  • One of my favorite songs till this day. Crazy how its still relevant.

  • i wish someone had video of this without the skipping

  • Man I miss 120minutes. Hum is fuckin awsome. One day I hope to be in Chicago to see them!

  • brings back good memories....space rock, the indie scene.....these guys were great

  • Grunge was the best, nothin' like cut off jean shorts, and t-shirts from some highschool function you never took part on!

  • AWESOME i miss this band

  • not bad for a bunch of tampa cops

  • Hum blew the fucking doors off Smashing Pumpkins!

  • CHrist how awesome is their drummer!

  • @ianmacsmith Man I agree. This drummer is amazing!. Id give my left nut to jam w/ this dude.

  • Back in the 90's I had a sub from the rag HuH and with each rag you got a cassette or cd,I only could afford the cassette and these guys were on one of them, great band!

  • i only wish i was born in the 90's

  • best part of this video? Jorts!

  • Bring back geek rock = save rock 'n roll

  • Differentiate11, you obviously cared enough about my "opinion" to post that. I was actually stating it as fact, but ill go ahead and admit, that it is only my opinion.

but it's still funny cause im right lol

  • @nathantim

    You're an idiot.

No one cares about your opinion.

    Go away

  • wtf @ metalcruzer... Smashing Pumpkins suck compared to Hum

  • You're an idiot.

No one cares about your opinion.

    Go away

  • @nathantim How can you put SP and Hum in a sentence with the word suck? Hum does kind of have that same guitar sound as SP and bands like APC and 10 Years.

  • @420Guitar420 I fucking love 10 Years actually.

  • @nathantim Cheers to that!

  • I've always loved this song

    Classic Alternative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Back in 95' or 96' I was drug against my will to a Festival in Wichita, Kansas to see the headliner "Sponge". Little did I know I was going to witness Hum steal the show and become my favorite band of all time. They were unbelievable. I just remember being so exicted when I found out where to pick up "Electra 2000" and "Fillet Show". I still remember hearing this song and "The Pod" for the first time, and it being live. Awesome.

  • Pumpkins could have done this..IMO. Love it!!

  • Comment removed

  • Lead singer looks so innocent, almost librarian or mad scientist. When that guitar hits its unexpected and hits you like a bat. Scares the shit out of people who don't know this song.

  • @Johnston154 thats why its so good

  • haha back then we just called it space rock. emo and post rock didnt even exist. so why do we have to make up new genres for something that already existed 10 years prior to emo?

  • @elextrixtechnixtree that mskes sense as to why the album is named You'd Prefer an Astronaut

  • @nirvana2297 the space rock genre has something to do with it, but if you listen to that album (every song in order) you'll have a better idea as to why it's called you'd prefer an astronaut.

  • emo existed back then...(christie front drive, jimmy eat world, the promise ring)

what you think you know as emo today has little or no similarity to that genre.

  • you are 100% correct dude. i wish more people knew about the oldschool emotive core.

  • Sound better live in my opinion... :)

  • One of the best intros in rock history, that wall of sound is amazing.

  • @stangcrazy306 Totally. "she's outback counting....BOOM!"

  • This is the first song I heard by this band... in the opening when suddenly that explosion of sound erupts... Yea, thats when I knew I'd love this band.

  • most definitely :)

  • Brilliant group. Solid riffs. What I would do to see them live back in the day.

  • awesome song. i haven't heard this in years.

  • Nerds rock's..!!!!!

  • Fucking rocks!

Y si ser nerd significa ser chingón, pues mejor aún. Yeehaw!

  • @HerederodelImperio There's nothing nerdy about rocking the face right off your skull.

  • can anyone tell me what kind of guitar the lead guitarist is using? perhaps also the frontman?

  • Looks like the frontman is using a Les Paul studio and the Lead guitar is a Fender strat.

  • @tirefire2009 the strat looking one is a fender prophecy or prodigy or something like that i cant remember the name.

and the singers using some kind of lespaul

  • What I love about Hum is that if you listen back to their first EP, you can hear the progression from "unique" to "relevant" to "great" and finally, on Downward is Heavenward, to "immortal"

  • Personally, I think "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" is their best album, but that's just me. I own all three of their bigger releases, and I love them so much it's hard to pick a favorite. But Astronaut clicked the most with me. I guess I'm a space nerd?

  • @Sakkuriru I love DIH...it's so textured, nuanced, beautiful...but still heavy as hell...a nearly impossible combination

  • @JasonEA You're so damn right. Couldn't have said that better.

  • Everytime I hear this song I get the urge to go out and by a cadillac. :D

  • i c what you did thar

  • 22nd May 1996, Manchester Boardwalk: Feeder, Everclear, Hum, my mate Eek and a bald psychology teacher called Andy. Good times.

  • They're not rocking out as much as they are...

    ROCKING THE FUCK OUT!

amazing song, amazing album, amazing band

  • No joke the lead singer was my freshman football coach in high school

  • that's tight

  • OMG this song live fucking rocks

  • always loved this song! (props to cadilac bringing it back tho!) still rocks hard!

  • holy shit that rocks!

  • how does the singer's glasses not fall off when he head bangs?

  • Retention strap, probably.

I used to wear one when I was in a band too.

  • Cause he's just so ausome that they must stay on. lol

  • This band never got the exposure they deserved.

  • I love this band.

  • one of my all time favorite bands. Wish Matt would take a break from coaching football, put the band back together and tour the east coast.

  • i fucking love their drummer (see the scientists).

  • Yeah. Well there were good bands in the 70's and 80's and it's all personal prefernce, and to me the late 80's and early to mid 90's is one of my favorite times in music along with the late 50's and all the 60's.

  • I totally agree. 60s and 90s were the best in my mind.

  • Word.

  • The 1967-1978 was the greatest period for music if you look past the disco part. Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Clapton and Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, The Who

Some of the greatest songs were from that period, Stairway to Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hotel California, Layla, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Riley, Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, Paranoid, Iron Man, Purple Haze, All Along the Watchtower, Imagine, Rock and Roll, Voodoo Child,

  • purely subjective

  • As far as the 70's go I'm on bord with alot of what you said but I dig funk and the 70's really put it out there. It's all a matter of opinion.

  • But on the other hand, stairway to heaven is one of the most overrated songs ever :)

  • no, not really. its a beautifully crafted song that has a flow that no other song can match, plus the lyrics are superb. youre just trying to be different.

  • Yeah right. I think you better wise up before judging people. Not all people are insecure douchebags like yourself.

  • i didnt judge you. i explained a song. chill.

  • I am chilled! But saying "youre just trying to be different" is ignorant and very wrong. I explained my opinion and of course it cannot speak for everyone.

  • I'll judge: You're a fucking tool! People like you are what's wrong with the world... you make a mountain out of a mole hill!

  • Im a WHAT? I don't know what's your social disorder but youre a fucking cunt, that's for sure.

  • god damn their guitar tone is amazing... So glad I caught the reunion show at Furnace Fest. I cant't believe there arent any videos of that show up.
