  • awesome!

  • Absolutely wunderful.....Ur a great artist an illustrater kewl stuff:).... angelweed

  • Andrew please take this into consideration. You should make this a series. If it was a series on youtube that would be amazing! Or once you really start it going try to make it a T.V. series!

  • VERY GOOD ANIMATION!

  • Thumbs up if he should work for Pixar

  • wow just wow

  • this make a great ps game

  • I'm so glad that you are my teacher. This is just amazing!

  • i like

  • sorry but i have to say : you fucking awesome!!!!! wohooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I'd sure love to see the animations created by the 371 haters who clicked the dislike button... as if they could do better... excellent work achesworth

  • LOL 5:07!

  • Bestest..

  • Awesome! Definitely one of the strongest student's animation I've ever seen. but it took 16 months?? that scare the hell out of me. I'm going to MCAD too but it's only my second semester here and I major in animation too. Did you learn all that in school? from experience do you think it's a good place to learn this major?

  • that was a good animation alot beter then the crap on tv

  • fun to watch good job hope you got a god grade. Looked like an A to me

  • WOW, that was cool! It must've taken a lot of dedication and patience to do this. so, how did you come up with the story?

  • This is pretty awesome! Great work! I really like it.

  • simple amazing...nice work

  • nice animation!

how long have you worked on this?

    did you use maya?

if so... where did you learn the facial expression rigs on the characters?

    keep it up!

  • @dennisvolkerts

Thanks! I made it over the course of a year and a half between late 2005 and early 2007. And I did use Maya 7.0. The facial work is done with a combination of joint skinning and blend shape morph targets.

    Thanks for watching!

  • @achesworth

and where or how did you learn the joint skinning / controls ? :)

i just dont understand Where in the face i should place the joints to act like real muscles beneat the skin. thnx anyway :)

  • coooooll

  • Hell good work :D you kick ass

  • Fucking beast

  • That's amazing that this was all your own work.

  • Fackin nice animations, the light trance/dance/techno in the training montage is wrong! Its just wrong! sorry :)

  • I lol'd so much at the poster on the wall.

    "I HATE YOU"

  • is that hard to do

  • Haha, well, yeah. It definitely wasn't easy. It took me quite a while to really get comfortable with the software, and learning animation takes a great deal of patience and dedication. But, I would say it's worth it if you love the craft.

  • Heyy are u working as an animator in the industry now?

  • Yep! I work at a studio in Minneapolis called MAKE, doing both 2D and 3D work.

  • if ya dont mind me askin, what program did you use? I mostly use 3DS max 2009 and im trying to learn maya

  • Every aspect of 3D was done in Maya, and all subsequent 2D art (textures, graphics) were done in Photoshop and After Effects. Thanks for watching! Best of luck learning the software - it's definitely advantageous to learn both. I know more people who prefer 3DS Max, but Maya is an amazing tool with its own advantages.

  • haha its like my 10th time watching! im gonna be a freshman in college at my local community college cause money is tight but when i graduate with Gen-Ed's im going to Illinois institute of art in chicago! they use maya so im trying to get myself familiar with it. Thanks a lot!

  • Hey cool, man! :D No kidding! I applied to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (I'm from Aurora, took a stop-motion class at COD when I was in junior high) as well as AI of Schaumburg, and ended up in Minneapolis because I really liked MCAD. Maya is excellent, and I still use it exclusively for 3D projects. The principles are more important than the tools. Good taste, good choices, and a determined ambition. I wish you the very best! It's the student, not the school! ;)

  • ha no way! im goin to COD! im from downers grove! haha ill ask my teachers if they know ya

  • my name

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • I went to an SES session and after looked for more MCAD student work.

I really enjoyed this video. The squarish dinosaur like creatures are so cute.

  • Hey, thanks for checking it out! That's nice of you to say! SES is great, are you in Sara Pocock's animation class?

  • omg that is awsome it reminds me alot on conkers bad fur day xD if you dont mind im going to make these characters in spore xD

  • hey man thnx for ur replay and as before i toldit is awesome id like to get in touch email or msnger any u like just need help regarding my animaition course which i am pursuing and would need a few tips and suggestions .

  • Hey, excellent piece of work! I'd like to get in touch with you regarding the prospect of collaborating for some animation projects.

    Cheers,

    Nick Koshy

  • They should make this into a game its fucking sweet as! reminds me of Worms

  • AWESOME JOB! This is really cool...the story, the animation, the characters...all super well done. I could see this as a feature length film. :) Love the poster on the wall saying "I hate you"...LOL. Thanks for sharing...

  • Thanks for the comment! I really want to see Shane Acker's "9". I really admire the journey he took to see that made into a feature from just a student short film. Gotta support those guys! :D

  • SEQUEL!!!!!!

  • So many requests! :D Maybe eventually!

  • I love this so much, watched it the day it was out... Brings so many memories to me =) What are you doing right now? School? Professional animator?

  • if this was a video game i'd buy it

  • Kinda reminds me of oddworld.

  • thats what i thought

  • Haha yeah, it was inspired by a lot of 1990s video games, most predominantly the SNES and N64 games of Rare (Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, and Donkey Kong Country 2), as well as Earthworm Jim, and maybe a trace of Oddworld, though I never played that one, I liked the artwork and cinematics when it came out.

  • please tell me your gunna make a sequel.

  • Haha, well, there are so many other ideas I want to make, even though I love these characters. If I used "Mortimer & Bracket" in another film, I'd probably stylize them way more, since I've learned so much more about CG since I made this.

  • wow dude super great man

did u work on it alone or had a team project

IF ALONE MANNN THIS IS ONE GREAT PROJECT DONE AWESOME WOW IT SURELY HAS A LOT OF PLANNING AND WORK INTO IT GRRREEEAAAT and can u also brief me upon how u gone through by making it explaining or just sharing what all u did ,if possible

    again awesome man niceeeee...

  • During school I spent a lot of my spare time on this film, as I was learning both traditional animation and CG (Maya) animation, I would peck away at this as my graduation project. From intial script to completion, the period was about 16 months of learning, trial and error, and feverish animating and testing. It was ideal to make in a college setting while learning around so many other people!

  • man, this video pwns ass! Great animation and message, definately one of the best animated movies I have ever seen.

  • What a kind compliment! Thanks for watching!

  • that was cool

  • hahaha 7:44 is cute...this is pretty good

  • haha lol look how the dinosaurs look like......

  • This is fantastic,

i think that you should get a trophy.

    = D = D

  • WOW This is amazing. I can't even express how much I love this-the message, the graphics, everything. I hope you did really well on this! All of your hard work definitely paid off!

  • kool!!!!!!

  • WOW-that was amazing! congrats!!!

  • Pretty Sweet Animation.

  • good animation and story they should make like a tv series of this

  • Very nice, you've got a lot of talent.. Especially to do all the modeling and editing your self. I like how the glasses follow him at 3:06. Good work.

  • wow LOL

  • Wow Fantastic work! they should make a movie with this :D

  • that was fabulous.

    congrats on it.

i enjoyed it, and its meaning.

  • 9 minute and very impressive! I love your work. This is the best.

  • 16 months into 9 minutes, that's heart. Love your work! You're gonna go far! Mark my words.

  • the "gorebloods" look like tons of daffy ducks...

  • Haha, yeah. There's definitely no small amount of influence from the great classic Warner animation.

  • lol!

  • loved it

  • BY The way awsome vid though, did you use a Mac Pro?

  • Abba Sucks

if you think this is random look at achesworths favourites

  • wow. good job, dude. i wanna make my own animation some day like that. I especially hope animation calls me to voice a character!

    Good Job!

  • Gee! You're a master with that program! This is the best work I ever seen on youtube!!

  • what program is this please tell me

  • I used Maya 7.0 for all of the 3D, and I used After Effects (exclusively and excessively) for all of the compositing and editing.

  • Very good Dunno how you did that but thats was truly amazing hope you get a job at doing this.

  • wow great job, very fun to watch!:)

  • You should work with the Pixar!!!!!! Genius!!

  • A truly superb animation!!!! I really enjoyed and had fun watching this animation!

  • Thanks man! :) I'm glad you took the time to check it out! Take care!

  • No problem, keep up the good work. If you ever get a chance, check out some of mine on my channel. I have at least maybe six or seven. I'm working on one right now in Animation Master.

  • Beautiful piece of work. Always in movement and small details everywhere. Perfect!

  • Oh man, very kind words... thank you! Very flattering. I'm just glad people are still watching it! Best regards ~

  • Wow! Fantastic work! Looks like a labour of love. Well done.

  • ryutcf ghbj

  • i was one of the first to watch it. a few days later it had over 300 pages of comments. all i can say is pixar is missing something without you dude.

  • Very accomplished piece of work. Everything about it was perfect!

I've only just started with 3d animations and know how much hard work goes into them. Hopefully I can do work as impressive as yours someday!

  • Dude, this was really good. You definitely ought to show this or other examples of your work to people involved in film. Both your storyline and animation are really impressive, and it was really cool to watch.

  • Is there a subtitled version in portuguese or spanish? If no, this can be done? Thanks.

  • this is so good had lots of fun watching it

  • great job

  • dude this is friggin amazing you should send your work to a producer or director

  • botom line:

IT ROCKS! do you plan on making any more?

  • fantastic work. Congratulations :O)

  • all i can say is WOW!

  • Dude...very impressive.

  • I really liked the theme of the movie...and it is just an amazing performance overall. Nice sound, nice design, everything :) Plz make more

  • its a little cartoon-ish thing he did for a senior project it doesnt need to be *believable* it doesnt need to have character devlopement hes not sellin a movie hes just puttin up a nicely made free project on youtube

Lets see you guys do that

  • If good means above *all* critisism, then ... it's fear of critisism behind wars.

I, for one, escaped from my draft. So would I hope a real mortimer or bracket, also, by not seeeming above critissm of streangth. But it's morbid to simplify into zero-sum gaming =WAR, as well as the thye-are-all-evil-attitude.

That attitude is DANGEROUS and evil.

Am I alone in wanting to care about that?

  • Those who are considered to be above all critizism (and see all others as evil) may be hiddenly those that also make war. Therefore it's dangerous to simplify things. Some who seem like squeelers may in power be the real dangers. On the other hand, if things should be simplified enough for a computer or other zero-sum gamers, then for that sake, OK. :-|

But zero-sum gaming is behind wars too!

  • amazing definitly one of my favorite movies I have ever seen on youtube for animtion, pizar needs you!

  • weird ending..... but i like!

  • awesome!

  • Mortimer reminds me of the crazy frog lol xD

  • great job andrew.... can't wait to see what you come up with next!

  • Its nine minutes long. Thats nowhere near enough time for proper character development.

  • All right, then. I guess believable characters shouldn't be asked for. ... :-|

-_- I see. I mean I guess the clarity of the message really ohght to be prioritized, as is in it. |-:

  • u should make a series out of this gurantte it would b a hit great animation hope to see more videos by ya

  • Aww this was epic man! Very good!

  • mrtimer is so tight

  • hell ya!

  • HAHAHA... That was cool...Great Job...LOL!!!

  • You can be proud of yourself for making this, nicely done, I like the message it brings

  • whats next for mortimer and bracket... ?

  • This CG is totally BADASS man!!!

    -Kevin

  • I would love to see this at the beginning of any movie (kinda of like with the Pixar Shorts)

  • if this was on itunes I would buy it

  • You definately have a career!

  • ah man, you have to make some "Mortimer and Bracket" shorts

  • Great work! Hope you got a great grade for it!

  • Yes, very well done first good user created movie iv'e seen in a while.

  • Exceptional. Very well done! Haven't seen a movie this good in a long while.

  • I really enjoyed that, it was quite entertaining.

I think you did an amazing job!

  • Wow!!! you should make a series out of this. Maybe showing what happens after the war.

  • I do not know much about computer animation but if you didnt get a freakin A+ for that..you got robbed..looks as good as any of the Pixar Disney stuff.

  • I think the beauty of this short film is that the ending is ending enough. It doesn't matter who won the war. Point is, you're better off ditching the whole thing and accepting each other. Great job on this.

  • I commend you on a job well done. But what happened in the end? Who won the war? and what ever happened to those two?

  • ... the whole point is both sides ended up killing each other and they just went back to the city.

  • This is the best animated video ever.

  • damn, great job

  • very well done !! ;) 5/5

  • Nice Job, really good animations

  • WONDERFUL JOB Andrew, and I Love the end, during the war. Beautiful video, but some songs are too... you cut sometime the song with an other song.

  • wow you did a awesome job!!

  • I'd buy this if it was a movie. I'm just saying.

  • that was awsome:D

  • I am a computer animator myself and I hav to say that this is an excellent piece of art. You have nearly mastered an area of animation I have yet to grasp. The graph editor. I can do the blocking but the graph editor escapes me. It never made sense to me. Anyway I applaud you work.

  • the only thing good was the animation

  • I am so in love with those dino animals
