Michael Jordan 15 year career, after- a NBA team owner. Kevin Johnson- 15 year NBA career, after- mayor of Sacramento. Emeka Okafor owns a finance degree so he could easily become an accountant when his NBA career ends. The problem is not kids wanting to become pro athletes, the problem is their plans after. Yes work heard with your goal of being a pro athlete, but at the same time, also prepare for after your career is over.
The problem is that there are far too many young guys who dream of being a pro athlete at the expense of acquiring a good education. Jordan, Kevin Johnson and a number of others are a small example of those who used sports and education to move themselves higher. Consider the thousands who are not prime examples like these men.
If 70% of young blacks aspire to be a pro athlete, that's a big problem. Consider what happens to those who did not become pro athletes.
Look at the president, he played HS basketball. Also watch the NCAA commercial where they say how many student- athletes they have and what those who as you say dont make it as a pro and end up being CEOs, doctors, and lawyers for example. Duke just won the NCAA title and I guarentee the players will prosper in the NBA and other careers. Its not a problem if 70% of blacks who want to be pro athletes, its a problem if those 70% dont prepare themselves for after being a pro athlete
It is twofold, as you said, a problem if "70% don't prepare themselves after being a pro athlete" but it is also a big problem on the frontend when youngsters spend more time with a ball in their hands than a book. Pro-athletes makeup far less than one percent of high paid professionals. In other words, most young blacks have a better chance succeeding as an engineer in a variety of categories and other highly needed professions.
thats where parents need to parent. Like I said about my son, yeah I let him play basketball, but I also MAKE him learn how to read. If he chooses not to, he doesnt get to play basketball. education and sports go hand and hand.
My son wants to play in the NBA, I have to prepare him to work hard to be a pro athlete and for when his career ends. To not, I would have failed him as a parent. We should support our black kids who dream of being pro athletes and push them to their goals, but we should also prepare them for after their careers are over so they can be like Kevin Johnson(mayor), Magic Johnson(businessman), Michael Jordan(NBA owner), Hakeem Olajuwon(real estate agent), Tiki Barber(news anchor).
Hm wow everyone wants to parade around Barack, as though he swore N oath to help black people. Or that he said (I want more blacks in power) I find these little Cnn round table discussions to be quiet silly, that man does not give a damn about the impoverished communities & has denied his blackness over & over wake up people. The only difference between Bush & Obama is Barack is more charismatic with his lies.
You stated "the only difference between Bush & Obama is Barack is more charismatic with his lies". I have just presented you with a huge difference between the two. I'm asking you if you know why that is the case. Do you?
Obama is gradually trying to move up to the most pressing issues pertaining to African Americans. We must apply "intelligent" pressure when required. He just sign an order that allow HIV/AIDS persons to visit or immigrate to the US without a waiver. This hasn't been the case since 1993. Almost all affected by this are black. It took him a year to do this but we should not expect all things to suddenly happen.
First off there really isn't any efficient proof that most cases of HIV happen to be black people. Again your going off statistics & manufactured information. What are the issues of African Americans is he trying to bring fourth to advance? Last time I checked some kid Derrion Albert got killed in Chicago by a 2 by four & him & Michelle said NOTHING.
Yes, there is much proof of it. "Manufactured information"? Try looking up CCR5 Delta 32. Lookup Public Law 91-171. I know the facts about this.
Blacks who are killing each other need to look within themselves. It's not Michelle's responsibility to say something about every fool who kill someone. Black people have what it takes to fix their challenges, do it.
BTW, the quiet genocide kills far more "Derrion Alberts" than bullets from guns. Seen the unseen.
Um Public Law, & CCR5 delta does not support your claim at all & once again STATISTICS can be debunked. And mind you it includes geographical area's as well.
Yes self accountability is what needs to run rampid through the black community but that can only go so far. See since Barack & Michelle have so much influence on the youth, I personally believe they were obligated to speak I mean yeah they are not Gods & don't control who lives & dies. But influence is power.
You can put your head in the sand about PL 91-171 and CCR5 Delta 32 as much as you like but until you articulate what either of them says, I would say that you have read neither. Please feel free to debunk it.
Self accountability has not yet gone near as far as it can. Obama and Michelle have spoken often to Black youth and the need for them to get a good education, make right decisions about sex, etc. Yes, power equals influence and there's no better power than the power of the people.
CCR5 is basically just a gene positioned in your chromosomes. How does this account for the notion that HIV hits the African American community the hardest? & Public Law 91 is basically just a house bill.
And please like I said when that kid in Chi-town gotten killed they could have used that as a example & talk about the poor educational system, poverty & self accountability on both the teens behalf as well as parents. Bottom line like Bush, that man does not care.
Neither of these are "basically" what you have casually concluded they are. CCR5 Delta 32 is one of two positions where the "agent" mentioned in PL 91-171 attacks, and it almost always attack at this chromosomal position. Virtually, all Black people are positive in this position meaning they have no mutation. However, among the Ashkenazim, up to 30% of them are negative at this position, meaning the virus can't penetrate the cell at this position.
Do you know what a Bill is when it becomes law? It means those things in it have been given the full authority of government to act upon. This is why you have HIV/AIDS today and it's primarily among blacks throughout the world.
Do you know how many youth get killed in the US everyday? It would be insane for a president to chase such cases and decide which one to talk about.
Most Israelis dislike Obama because they know he cares about his people and don't like what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians, similar to how whites treated his father and grandfather in Kenya.
No you need to stop you really need to stop because at this point your not bringing up anything factual but assumptions. Yes we know Israelis hate Obama but to say it's because *he cares about his people and don't like what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians* is ridiculous. Where were you when he bombed Pakistan?
Pakistan was being bombed before he became president, after and was bombed yesterday. I am very much aware of the situation. Give it some time, even a president can't just simply turn that off without having nuts in the military shooting at him.
I'm not going to belabor myself with known facts. I offered you the opportunity to provide an answer, apparently, you could not. You disagree with the answer I have provided, and that's okay.
I disagreed because your being very biased. You can't say Bush's policies were wrong the other day & when Barack takes those same policies & further advance them say it's alright. That makes no sense sir.
Again, you have not allowed enough time to make the conclusion you have made. The media is bombarding you with this nonsense, just as they bombarded you with the lies for 6 years that the economy was strong and Wall Street is riding high. Don't believe the hype.....
OK if the media bombarded me with nonsense, the same media that sold Obama to the public like a gift wrapped puppy. The same media that basically told you & countless others whom to vote for bombarded me then whats to say about the decisions Obama is making? Do you know anything about foreign policy, trade, goods & services, the monetary system? Do you even understand how the 3 branches of government, the role of the UN?
Very much aware of the roles of the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative branches of US government. Know quite a bit about trade and the monetary system. Know the history of the League of Nations and then the United Nations. Know the beginnings of the ICC and the US not be a signatory of it. Shall I go on????
Obama is loved by some of the media and hated by some.
What you don't know is that in 1990 I wrote a book that predicted exactly when we would have a "Barack Obama".
@MalcomAP: I agree with you on Obama sending America into a deeper economic catastrophe, thew reason is he is not Governing, and when people begin to wake up and smell the coffee, and they have no jobs, black people make up 20% of the Unemployed in America, & 47 Million people living in poverty already because Obama is president is not going to change that for those people. US economic situation is dire, and those who were poor anyway things will only get worse. The Debt level has been reached.
When I state *denied his blackness* I mean he is completely mute to what goes on in the impoverished communities of USA we all know the vast majority with in impoverished environments are BLACK PEOPLE & Latino.
Yes you have poor whites & poor Asians as well but that's really only a minority as most members of those racial groups are either rich or middle class. So since the president is Mulatto thats what I mean by denying his blackness. Because he is willing to discuss the issues of white America. And continue to ignore the issues black impoverished America.
By far, the poorest group in the US so happens to be among rural whites. Whites receive far more welfare than blacks. Most blacks are not impoverished, although what the media often presents would lead you to believe this is the case when it isn't.
I never said most blacks were impoverished I said the vast majority of people living in these horrible environments are black. That doesn't mean mostly all blacks are impoverished. And that's a fallacy that rural whites are poor. People CHOOSE to live on the country side some people just don't like big cities. And you got some blacks that live in rural area's as well. And we don't need the media to tell us that the majority of inner city kids are black. When we can see that ourselves.
Did you not say most whites are either rich or middle class and that most of the poor people are black and latino? Again, most of the poor people are white and rural. Ever been to some of the back hill areas of America? People have been in the "country side" for generations, it wasn't about choice. Yes, blacks do, in a minority number, live in rural areas but far less than whites. That once was not the case.
OKay & just because one chooses to live within a rural area does not make him/her financially unstable. And yes most whites are either rich or middle class. I said MOST not all. same scenario with blacks a good plusher of them are inner city dwellers, NOT all of them live in the inner cities.
True, not all Blacks live in the innercity. During the Industrial Revolution, millions of blacks moved from rural areas to innercities such as Chicago, Detroit and others to work in the factories.
Most Blacks are middle class and it is true that not all of them live in the innercities. I did not spend the first 12 years of my life in a city but in rural America.
Now that people, finally have had enough of what does not work, the change has begun, and no one can stop it now....The Universal Love for All is here, somethings just happen, and nothing has to be forced....but.....getting use to new things, does take some people more time than others....but....it still happens....
How do you feel now knowing OBAMA helped lynch black men in Lybia?
