You are already discerning, considering your question itself.
I can only recall from my own experience - it was in the company of the genuine that I got to learn and understand. The basic difference in me and others contemporaries is opportunity in the mode of learning itself.
I can only suggest that you dwell with a discerning an eye and reality always beckons honest seekers.
It is a one never-ending uniquely built cave within the instrument, strung with the choicest gut strings and perhaps the fact that it is nearly a 300 year old instrument.
there are no old recordings of kirtan with this instrument... Anad Records came out with the first known recording of this type of Rabab... though it is a solo performance.
Ustad BBS,
So would this be considered similar to what Baba Mardan Played alongside Guru Nanak Parshah?
Or was his different in any way?

After all these years of listening to sitar and sarod, it feels so good to hear this music on gut strings! Jor/jhalla perhaps most of all!
I'll go to Anad Records and buy recordings of this, if there are any.

Sursringar and sarod have stemmed from this classical instrument, any resemblance is obvious.
