I've seen this match here dozens of times. Back when I was a bad aggro player this was the match that made me see the light about control and how awesome it can be to play.

It feels a little off-setting going into depth in this world of specialized dialogue and references that's not really my interest, and at an additional shot, has to be my opponent for attention.
Components in fantasy like mana, dwarves and elves, adventures in "fantasy" worlds are really a far-cry from where I am at. Though ironic in the sense of the straight word, I'm a magic realist, gravitating toward real life's fruits. Is magic an escape? *sigh* I don't know what I'm looking for. Isn't alright to be selfish and have just a little more attention? I don't see him enough as it is (luckily, 2 or 3 times a year), and I just want to understand what he's into here.
The problem is bigger than Magic. Long distance is the problem. Even strong relationships are strained by distance. It's rough and tumble and I feel for you. But if you like long distance relationships with guys who play magic... I'm sorry but I'm just not seeing anyone long distance right now.
Many people like me don't have a strong attraction to the fantasy, but really love the game just for the game it is. Half of the fun comes from playing it, but the other half is making the deck the way you want it to be. It feels like an expression of yourself.
And once you get experienced enough, you'll know the third half of the fun called "drafting."
Hit a card shop and learn to play yourself. It's more fun if you understand the thrill that people get from playing the game if you've played and won yourself.
Magic is about strategy. I'm a psych major and an advocate of Magic, andfrom what I can tell, Magic lets you have control over what you do. It lets you plan out what you're going to do and why. This could be a draw for your boyfriend, maybe he needs something to "control." I couldn't tell you for sure, but maybe because you two are in a long distance relationship is why he picked up playing Magic, it could possibly be giving him the feeling of control in a situation where he feels he has none.
It could just be an outlet for creativity. That is what it is for me. It's not about loving the idea of elves and wizards. If you learn more about the game it could easier to understand why he plays. It's okay if you do not get it. Some people fall in love with the game and some people are confused as to how someone can love a game like Magic. Things will be okay, tell him how you feel and if he cares about you then he will adjust his habits so that he can have both you and magic around.
Thanks you guys. It hasn't been instant but I've been acclimating to my boyfriend's hobby. I don't want to be one of those people that put a leash on his hobby and his outlet. I have had numerous talks to him about it and we've come to a resolution. I let him play magic but he makes it up to me afterward lol. We are playful like that ^^; I feel sorry for him though; he gave up friday night magic for lent LOL :)~

There are three pro tours a year and I think the top 35 make money. 35 gets $200 and first place gets $40,000. They also have a pro-point and level system. The more points you earn in a season the higher level you get. Once you hit level 5 you start to get money for just showing up at Grand Prix or Pro Tours. ive also seen another vid where they use dice to record life points. but what perplexes me is how you can record 1 through 20 on just 2 six sided dice. somone must have the answer here.
you ever hear of a D20? I use d6's for counters but i couldn't tell you how to keep track of life on d6's other that just tracking damage on multiple dice...but once life gain comes into play its really confusing.
It's easy to count life on 4 d6, you just set them all to 5. Pow, 20 life. Then you can low the numbers as necissary. OR raise the numbers as necissary.
You also use a dice in order to determine who goes first and in order to determine a target if a card states that something is chosen "at random". Other uses of the dice are representing counters and tokens of all kinds and of course the most common use, counting life.
Can anyone please tell me how they can play so quickly without communicating?. With all of the creature abilities and enchantments how do they know what their opponents have and what they can do? I don't play magic but I know the rules, I watched "Learn how to play magic". Do they actually memorize all of the cards so they know what their opponents cards are and there effects? Upside down!?
not rly, while they use good cards its not hard to guess what they do. like if u drop a blue card on a creature chances are its a removal. It doesn't take that long to read a description of what the card does lol....
dude, just looking at the art and they know whether to wait for a response depending on the mana available and color the opponent has. you take note of the field and come to a conclusion of what is occurring on the board. Plus in a control vs. control matchup, each player knows the strategy for the mirror match .
not if you have the right mana sources i.e. you have fetch lands, dual lands, pain lands and the like. also the strategy of what each color will provide to your decks synergy must be researched when making a multicolored deck.
i have red/black gonlin deck the best it pwn u all^^ with my shield of kaldra and goblin piledriver and at the beggining of the game goblin lackey ure screwd^^
extended will suck after this year and I just started playing competitive too! Goblins will then be everywhere even more so without engineered plague.
MTG is cool i play with my freinds and if u use a blue deck get some stuffy dolls (i have 4) then use flying the enchant on them and if u get all 4 of em like that if owns all

I am a little confused as to when this game happened; the announcer said, "Everything's gonna' change with Future Sight..." so is this Ravnica block? I thought that 9th Edition didn't have a "Cancel" to it.

HI I hope someone can help me. I have just started playing magic again after 10 years with a buddy of mine. We had an argument yesterday about the following; When I bring a creature into play I know it is affected by summoning sickness, and it cant attack. But in my opponent's turn straight afterward, can my creature block if my opponent attacks with a creature or does i still have summoninhg sickness? Pleasae help thanku very much
Yes. Summoning sickness means you cannot tap it for abilities or tap it to attack until after the end of the turn you summon it.
You don't tap to block, so you can block with it. And summoning sickness wears off by the time your opponent attacks, so you can tap for abilities as well.
You can tap it to use an ability as long as long as the word "tap" is written out, not the tap symbol. EX: Drowner of Secrets from Lorwyn. To use the ability, you have to tap target merfolk you control. You can use the drowner as a target and tap it the same turn you cast it to use its ability.

I don't play magic but I know the rules, I watched "Learn how to play magic". Do they actually memorize all of the cards so they know what their opponents cards are and there effects? Upside down!?

not rly, while they use good cards its not hard to guess what they do. like if u drop a blue card on a creature chances are its a removal. It doesn't take that long to read a description of what the card does lol....

dude, just looking at the art and they know whether to wait for a response depending on the mana available and color the opponent has. you take note of the field and come to a conclusion of what is occurring on the board. Plus in a control vs. control matchup, each player knows the strategy for the mirror match .

not if you have the right mana sources i.e. you have fetch lands, dual lands, pain lands and the like. also the strategy of what each color will provide to your decks synergy must be researched when making a multicolored deck.

MTG is cool i play with my freinds and if u use a blue deck get some stuffy dolls (i have 4) then use flying the enchant on them and if u get all 4 of em like that if owns all

I am a little confused as to when this game happened; the announcer said, "Everything's gonna' change with Future Sight..." so is this Ravnica block? I thought that 9th Edition didn't have a "Cancel" to it.

HI I hope someone can help me. I have just started playing magic again after 10 years with a buddy of mine. We had an argument yesterday about the following; When I bring a creature into play I know it is affected by summoning sickness, and it cant attack. But in my opponent's turn straight afterward, can my creature block if my opponent attacks with a creature or does i still have summoninhg sickness? Pleasae help thanku very much

Yes. Summoning sickness means you cannot tap it for abilities or tap it to attack until after the end of the turn you summon it.
You don't tap to block, so you can block with it. And summoning sickness wears off by the time your opponent attacks, so you can tap for abilities as well.

You can tap it to use an ability as long as long as the word "tap" is written out, not the tap symbol. EX: Drowner of Secrets from Lorwyn. To use the ability, you have to tap target merfolk you control. You can use the drowner as a target and tap it the same turn you cast it to use its ability.
