  • @paddyd65

  • Excellent!

Thank you for posting this beautiful rendition of the Robert Burns Poem. :-)

  • Im English and the Scots piss me off a lot. Burns is something else though. This poem can rip the heart out of anyone. There are a number of things it's hard not to love about the Scots. Burns is top of the list.

  • My very favourite Robbie Burns song..So from the heart and for some of us the memory of first of love lives for always.

  • Just beautiful....the aching, heart-wrenching words, the music

Burns was a once in a lifetime genius

  • Bravo! :)

I wept on my breakfast bannock! :)

  • @USAsoldier1955

    thnx my friend ;o)

  • Bravo! :)

  • In the chords.....can you hear Burn's heart tearing asunder - his (current) love leaving forever to journey to the West Indies - In today's terms the other side of the universe!

  • @billyconnearly

Interesting relationship they had... and the fascinating thing is Jean met with ehr long after RB had died.... That would have been some conversation!

  • Possibly the saddest song in the Burn's songbook.....

  • @billyconnearly

indeed...in any song book...and as relevant today as when it was written...timeless.

  • Wow! Reading it on my book is just simple. But getting to hear the song just brings a lot more feeling to it. Awsome.

  • @Ace5Oh

    my pleasure...thnx for the comments

  • Is that you ??? bit.ly /cdnU5p

  • That was great, really the best version I have heard of Ae Fond Kiss...

  • @KevBaz78

thnx my friend..... I'll add that one to the list too ;o)

  • thank you uncle

  • Well done lads, I love Rabbies stuff, well the sonnets mare so than the poetry, this is a fine rendition of one of his best.

    Healthy regards, Brian.

ps got you a pair of stilts for Christmas

  • Some "educated" Canadian said Shakespeare wrote " to see her is to love her", I should have bet him before correcting him. My favorite Burn's song, thank-you.

  • thnx my friend.....and would that be Lochee as in Dundee? If so you're a long way frae hame.....

  • Ah God! Made me cry! Such beauty.

  • thnx my friend

  • Good on you, this is my favourite version of my favourite Burns song. Heartbreaking stuff that we can all relate to from Rabbie, and you brought across the emotion of it very well, kudos

  • Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;

    Ae fareweel, alas, for ever!

Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,

Warring cries and groans I'll wage thee!

Been there, a love of long ago that did not mature. Then after 29 years to see her again... with loves maturity, but now a forbidden Love. Bobby Burns, your words of when you wrote them, still sing true today.

  • He certainly had a knack for that. He put into words the thoughts of many....and these are often as relevant today as they were when he penned them.

    Thnx for the comments

  • I had no idea that Robert Burns had such correspondence with Nancy McLehose I find that such an interesting part of Robert Burns history apart from his womanising which he is well known for. To a Mouse used to be my favourite poem now this one is such beautiful words thank you.

  • Indeed he did. In fact if you visit the World Burns Federation Website (try a Google search as Youtube won't allow an address in here), you can read all the letters between them.

    Thanks for the feedback

  • My favorite verse is the last...he still wishes her well even though he'll never see her again. :(

Small world... I learned this from Paul Crighton when he was in Maryland, and Pete Clark was there too. I didn't play fiddle well enough to take a class from him.

  • Is that an extra verse (2nd one). I only know 3.

  • there are 6 half verses often written as 3 long verses with the last half of long V3 a repeat of V1:

I will add the words to the 'about' notes

  • Thanks, just learned this song and currently listening and learning Ye Jacobites (by yersel'.

  • like all your stuff, this is wonderful.

  • many thanks....happy listening ;o)
