All flying, be it bush, military, airline or just pottering in the family 4 seater, requires knowledge and skill to be safe. That comes with practice. I admire bush pilots anywhere for their skill in using aeroplanes in unusual ways with high degrees of stick and rudder skills. Equally I admire a well trained airline crew following good IFR procedures to keep a transportation system running safely. Both operations require a high degree of training and on going currency. It's not a competition!
Would suck if they hit a big rock on landing and were stuck 500 miles from anywhere! Makes me wonder what they were hoping to find out here, besides beautiful scenery? Maybe he just wanted to show how it's done?
@justforever96 any good bush pilot would check 1st for any obstructions in the landing zone...am sure this guy made a lo pass 1st before landing....the need to land in remote areas is a requirement of bush flying and these guys are not daft...they are very well aware of the issues and consequences of getting it wrong..
Any civil pilot in the lower 48 who thinks they are good, and I don't care how many thousands of hours you've logged, will most definitely rethink their opinion of their abilities if they ever venture up to Alaska and encounter bush flying.
My hat is off to these folks, they are the best in the world.
@MrUrmother22 you need to learn your airplanes better...Heli Courier is perhaps the best STOL airframe ever built in terms of performance/STOL/CG loads

@DanOblacksmith True, but I think anyone who deals with the Los Angeles class Bravo airspace could say the same of bush pilots.

I definitely did. I got video of the takeoff too. It's not very exciting - basically WHOOSH and we're off. Pilot was pretty awesome.
