Man I've listened to both this version and the Yardbirds one for so many times now and I still can't decide which one I find better...the gouldman one definitely has much more groove to it though...but the yardbirds one is more mysterious and that was initially what I loved about this song...
Gouldman would have been right at home at the Brill Building. He pretty much penned a lot of the great hits that came out of Britain that weren't writen by Lennon/McCartney or Jagger/Richards.
I prefer the Yardbird's version without a doubt but this is still really worth a listen. Gouldman deserves far more respect than perhaps some of the more snobby music critics ever gave him

I saw graham gouldman at the cropredy festival a couple of years ago . he penned a lot of hits in the sixties and seventies ... great artist !
