One thing we try to avoid tweaking too many things, we try to get the most raw, emotional performance, and try, as much as possible, to sing the song entirely like you'd do live. Also, keep in mind that XF performers get choreographed and helped by their "mentors". AI contestants plan their performances by themselves. My point in my prev comments was that Haley's tone suits this song perfectly, like the song was meant to be sung by her.

This version beats the Idol version by a long shot. She softened up the beginning and the middle and must have followed Randy's suggestion by saving the yelling for the end. I totally thank Michael for writing this song, but this version is actually pretty enough to hear on the radio. I think the problem with Haley's live performance of this song is that she didn't have enough time to build it up like in this studio version.

I've never denied his talent, but once again confirmed his creepiness. Haley makes me care, MJ makes me feel queasy. And not to comment again, but I had to say if you listen to the original, you'll see how at the climax of the song, there was a backup gospel choir to sing the "What about it!" and "What about us?" parts. It's so powerful.
Ok, so coming from a huge MJ fan that know every one of his songs, she is no Michael Jackson but she did pretty good. I love the song...the only thing that I don't really like are the back up singers....It doesn't fit the song. It should have been a choir instead. Great song tho :)

The only problem i had with her was her attitude every time the judges told her something was off. You cant get mad at the judges for her getting voted off..it was you America that did it, So blame yourself more or less...but i think the 2 people who should have been iin the top 2 was James and Lauren or Lauren and Haley .

I think the problem with Haley's live performance of this song is that she didn't have enough time to build it up like in this studio version.
Beautiful song, much more inspirational than what the other contestants chose, I just wish she would have had more time to build it up and make it beautiful like I know she could have.

@twistty2 - just wanted to make sure I haven't changed my opinion, so... Watched video of him singing this live (London?) and the official music video. I've never denied his talent, but once again confirmed his creepiness. Haley makes me care, MJ makes me feel queasy. Sorry to disappoint everyone, I cannot completely separate the artist from the art, and I don't think we should. He throws in his trademark high note "woooos" at the end and I hit stop. Like Haley's version better.

Ok. Now I'm even more impressed. Don't like most of her studio's compared to live, but this was awesome. I have no interest in listening to MJ singing this song (mainly because I find him creepy), but I could listen to this. It's touching, haunting, deep and meaningful. Agree with bchaqueco - the pic sucks, but maybe click4bio was trying to match the mood of the song...

And not to comment again, but I had to say if you listen to the original, you'll see how at the climax of the song, there was a backup gospel choir to sing the "What about it!" and "What about us?" parts. It's so powerful.

Ok, so coming from a huge MJ fan that know every one of his songs, she is no Michael Jackson but she did pretty good. The thing that I don't get though is why Randy and Jlo said that se was just screaming at the end when that is exactly what Michael does in the song. If you have not heard this Michael Jackson song, go listen to it! It's simply beautiful. Everything about him is. RIP my longtime hero.
