I've always found the Pompeii version to be too flashy in comparison to this - but then again the Pompeii version WAS recorded in a studio in France ; )
This how it sounded live more often than not. You didn't rush to put Led Zep on after this. It was best left till last when your mates came round to listen to this on your crap 1970 stereo because anything else after it sounded mundane. My highpoint of seeing bands in that era was seeing Floyd with the lovely Barbara Wesoley and the not so lovely Mark Fooks at the Imperial College, about June 1970 I think. All youth is lost forever. Shame there is no god.
I don't think there's a definition of what is a "true" Floydian. Pink Floyd is my favorite band (my reason to live?) and I like Roger much better than Gilmour or Barrett. But you're right, there's no comparaison to make between the musicians, but between the periods. I do prefer the Waters period (Atom Heart Mother to The Wall). Pink Floyd has evolved so much, it's completely normal to choose one oh these evolutions. But please don't make confusion between musicians and periods.
@myarade02...I like Roger better as well....I always thought there was much more pain in Roger Waters that always struck more of a chord with me. Gilmour always had this smooth haunting mystery to him that I love just as well..But for me when Roger stepped up...that was their wings spread wide.
Syd wasnt any better than gilmour. Gilmour no better than rogers , rogers no better than masson mason no beter than wright . If you are a true Floydian you Love all of them Equally.
One of those amazing things that pop up in this world. Starts out mellow, then things become a little more groovy as the song sucks you in until you are entirely engulfed. Then comes Roger screaming like you've never heard! It's terrifying, but you find it thrilling! You don't know what to do, but there's no worry. Because all there is to do, is sit back an enjoy this wonder
Why is there ALWAYS one cnut who wants to do anything but enjoy CLASS? Stormcharger, why don't you go run away and listern to beeber and find fault with him? Ur a unwanted drug!!!
@Stormcharger lol, so someone that has all their braincells is a problem with the world as opposed to people who do not, ill have to remember that one...
@hellchild65 Im pretty sure you are a troll, but if not please look at the wikipedia page called "List of misconceptions about illegal drugs" which says that marijuana does not kill brain cells.
@hellchild65 "Oh, look at me. I have a Dr.s" You mean a doctorate degree, you fucking dumbass. And you haven't even specified what kind of doctorate degree. An MD might qualify you to talk on this topic in this way. A PHD wouldn't necessarily. Furthermore, all a doctorate proves is that you've gone to a university and passed a few classes. It doesn't prove you actually know what you're talking about. A high school dropout can learn all things an MD or PHD knows from READING.
@RazorHeadMetal hence "helps cure cancer" not "cures cancer." Slowing the progression rate of cancer gives more time to cure it, hence helping cure cancer.
This is literally how I felt recently when I hadn't slept at all and I had to go to into work. Being so rundown with NO energy it was the worst feeling I've ever had coupled with some acute anxiety and depression thrown in.
So to summarize: THIS is why PINK FLOYD are fucking brilliant. Because it's music you can connect to.
