Perhaps try the Amstrad CPC Version on MSX2 and better configs if you can...
Also if you could use the Hardware sprites to get rid of the colour clashes for the sprites... this would greatly improuve the game (but a lot a recode perhaps...)

lol a straight port of the Z80 code from Spectrum and also the graphics too: should've used the SMS version instead...

I agree. But I believe that they had used the SMS version they will need to convert this to MSX 2 system. (colors)

Not exactly.
the MSX had Hardsprites so it could easily have no colourclashes between sprites and backgrounds as on Speccy.
So you could get a decent background and proper sprites even easier to generate than speccy's softsprites..
