There is nobody, simply nobody aound at the moment who can hold a candle to the Boss..........and sorry Gameranger, the best Boss track at least for me, remains .......Cadillac Ranch..........pure rock and roll!!
Its the winter of 96 and its snowing and my trucks clutch dies in the dark on a snowy backroad. The next day the Girlfriend tells me I dont rock her world
and I am feeling like I am living in the Darkness.
then the next day I hear this song on the radio as I am driving in the dark
and a new Bruce Springsteen fan is born
Everytime life strings me out on a wire I listen to this
I left this on another post but I'll repeat it here:
I love Bruce but I have two problems with him that are well illustrated in this video.
#1 - He's actually a great guitar player but almost NEVER likes to display what I know is an incredible facility with that instrument.
#2 - His guitar always seems to be too low in the mix.
The result: Some people have no idea how good he really is on that instrument. He used to be 'killer' - Clapton-esque Les Paul/ Marshall Stack - kind of 'killer'.
The whole Darkness album is underrated, Streets Of Fire, Racing In The Street, Something In The Night... three brilliant songs that are rarely played, Darkness truly is an epic album.
I dont have a favorite song of bruce's. I just cant pick. Its just what i am feeling that day. Sometimes its 'roll fo the dice' sometimes 'murder inc.' it all just depends...
@gameranger10 My top 20 Bruce tracks are 1.The River 2.Born To Run 3.I'm on Fire. 4.Racing In The Street. 5.Born In The USA 6.Independence Day 7.Backstreets 8.Stolen Car 9. The Rising 10.Something In The Night 11.Streets Of Philadelphia 12.County Fair 13.Long Walk Home 14.Jungleland 15.Bobby Jean 16.Walk Like A Man 17.Nebraska 18. American Skin 20.Atlantic City. But your right, it changes from year to year and the list could go on and on!
also, i love the live version of this song in any form. i just wish he would have kept the lyrics the same as the album in the first verse.
even in the lyrics in the album jacket the last line is "and leave you stranded face to face with streets of fire" but on the album he says "and baby i ain't no liar i walked streets of fire"
That line at the end of the last verse is impossible to hear, I don't think it means anything. This is one of Bruce's most under rated songs, it's stunning, the guiater solo on th studio version is what rock music is all about.
sounds quility is a bit crappy, abnd dosnt give dredit to its overwhelming power. This son is fantantastic, go and see the 1978 version in Passiac....just fenomenal!
If there is any girl that like this song then you must merry me!
listen to the studio version, right near the end he says "don't look in my face", then he says something about his name(?), then he says "stranded on a wire in these streets of fire". I've looked all over google and this lyric is nowehere to be found and it's driving me crazy.
I just listened to the song super loud and I think he says "don't come on oooooooover" either that or he was just making it up in the studio, if you look at the lyrics a lot of them are a little different then those printed in the booklet.
From the album "Darkness on the Edge of Town," which contains two of his three greatest "guitar" songs -- "Bandlands" and "Streets of Fire" (The other song is "Backstreets" found on "Born to Run")
I don't think Backstreets is all that complicated. Most of Bruce's songs don't have that many chords, but fuck, that solo in Backstreets makes me rip out the air guitar every time.
chills!

It takes a real artist to write dark songs about real-life dark characters...and no one does it better than Bruce.

Interesting, though.

@Eeza07 I love Jungleland but Bruce has so many great songs, I could do a top 100 list! Incident is a great song, I just don't like the outro!

no, the end of the song. After Angles that hide no place; sounds like "don't look down at my face", then another line which is inaudible.

I shoulda clarified; I meant the studio version from the record.
