@hunterfishman1 Have you ever fished before? the only way they hit it is if you move it, and that was a little striped bass, a big one would of swallowed it in seconds
I know you weren't asking me, but I find if it looks like food, and you put it where they can see it, they generally try to eat it. AKA, color is not critical most of the time.
Yeah, they do that. My fist time was in Beach Haven, NJ, high noon in October of '94. I froze up in awe of the spectacle. On they came. It was a mini blitz and it seemed they were toying with my yellow 6" Bomber. They kept 'nosing' it underwater and not striking.
I've had some successes in later years. I had three Stripers, big guys come behind me while they chased rainfish onto the beach. They look like silver zeppelins when they leap out of the water celebrating the Striper experience.
I like how you kept the retrieve steady after the first swipe. Most people naturally stop after a hit, but keep the retrieve steady as if nothing happened and a lot of times the fish comes back for more. Good technique.
im 13 and i love fishing i been fishing for fluke/flounder since i was like 4 and now im into stripers and blue fish i was wondering if surface lures work better for stripers or sinking lurs?
you should have started to take a fast strip and then pause for a second and repeat... that way the striper would be able to hit the lure and it would not appear to just stop... which might spook the bass
would letting the lure stop for a moment in this situation be advisable? instinctively, I would have just to see if the bass would hit it and take it.
07brian...hey man..The bass didnt "hit"...it was missing the strikes...and secondly...If he just stopped the lure, how natural would that look? A fleeing baitfish doesnt suddenly decide to take a break when a lunker stripe is pursuing it...
@BleedingSunday ...Stopping the retrieve of a plug after a strike or two mimics the death of the baitfish, which is a dream come true for a hungry striper. One of the best sharpies on the east coast taught me the technique, and I have used it many times to hook stripers after missed strikes, especially when I am nearing the end of my retrieve.
That's what it's all about right there. If that doesn't get your blood flowing, you're flatlined! Check out Seein Stripes videos for some big fish action!

I use Spitn Images for stripers and Black bass. I find them more fun to fish with.
Thanks for posting that footage!

We troll for stripers here in SC near pilings using mirro lure with a bucktail trailing 3 feet behind the lure.

In your experience, what color of the Spooks are best for stripers? I just got a wounded shad colored Super Spook, but haven't tried it out yet.

@66SiK Black/silver or blue/silver or shad or bunker colors...in this situaiton just about any color works

TOPWATER LURES WORK WHEN THE FISH ARE BOILING
however i have found that stripers will attack just about anything.
my personal favorite lure is the rapala or rebel jointed minnow
stripers also favor frozen anchovies and large shad minnows at the bottom
stripers are always on the move

Because You have to make it look like a fish, would a bait fish being chased by a striped bass stop so that the bait fish can get eatin up and die?

wow you suck at fishing that bass hit it what 5 times? learn to slow ur lure speed instead of speeding it up and set the damn hook!

@jpfearnofish stopping the bait produces many strikes at time...

@thefishingline10
Not when it already hit it, then get it in as fast at possible, pausing would make the fish lose interest

@jpfearnofish that makes no sense it can trigger the fish to thinking its injured it works really well if they aren't hitting it
jbhockeyplayer22 1 year ago
ya because that is natural...y wuld a baitfish slow down if a nice sized striper is chasing it?
