Parallel takeoffs and landings like that are common. Especially at busier airports. It's perfectly safe as you noticed the distance in the video between where the 737 was taking off and the ERJ was taking off. Therefore, there is plenty of room to maneuver both planes safely away from each other.
Nice! I had this happen with an American Eagle ERJ out of DFW in Sept 2008. It had never happened before. I was in an AE ERJ too to Shreveport. Cool airports in Texas!
how the hell do people think this is photoshopped...i say its very real ,ive seen it happen before...very cool its wierd because youre used to thing going by you when your taking off but this plane is just stuck in your window and wont go away :)
It probably took off later because it is a bigger and heavier plane and it needs more speed to take off. I was in a 737 a few weeks ago and took off from dtw and I compared it to the time I took off in a crj 900 (headed for IAH) on the same runway and the crj 900 took off 8 seconds earlier.
Nice video. It is one of the best or the best take off video I have ever seen!!!!!
@020808 I remember lfying from Houston Texas to Quito Ecuador once at around 4:30 pm it was thunder and lightning in September of 2005, i love sbarros pizza at houstons airport, love the houston rockets, i miss taking off your mr. ansel adams with that beautiful photography. Continental stands by their name, they give the best service, they go out of your way to make you feel its your second home. I also love the nestle tollhouse cookie restaurant at IAH.
This is one of the coolest videos on youtube, it captured something that doesn't happen all the time from a passenger point of view, thanks for posting!
Hey! Is that even safe?? The two planes could collide? That's not against FAA regulations or anything? I thought there was like a minute between take offs
This is very safe and quite common. The planes are on parallel runways and there is enough room between the runways to allow to planes to take off at once.
lol wow thats a funny video and i have to say i have never seen that happen either this is a first for me but even though u guys toke off first the next aircraft was still in front of u guys when it was air-born cause he stayed a lil longer so it had built up more speed than u guys still freaking kool video man i dont see that happeneing at my work place kewr there is always a delay there
One would usually expect a 737-800 to go faster down the runway for take-off than the ERJ-145 because the 738 needs more runway and it's heavier. Haven't you seen the video of someone in a Continental 737-800 and took off at the same time a Southwest 737-700 took off? In that one the 737-800 went faster down the runway for takeoff than the 737-700, but the 73G took off first. I'm pretty sure that a 737-800 would have to go faster down the runway for take-off than an ERJ-145
Dude, that's bad ass! I took a couple of vids taking off and landing from the same airport and Conti 737 HOU to LAX, I gotta put it up, not as cool as yours ;) it's hard to keep conspicuous filming while hiding your camera. ;)
Since I'm a plane geek, you made my day! Thank you soo much for posting this...This is awesome! Would you recommend Continental Airlines to me? I'm flying to EWR very soon.
Better hope your chief pilot doesn't find out that filming is going on during passenger flights below 10,000 feet...Pilots have lost their jobs doing this...Great video by the way!
very close together. when you fly out of ATL, sometimes you take off the same time as TWO ther planes ATL is on of the only airports that can perform tripple takeoffs and landings
lol me 2. the plane the camera was in was like, "yes we got the lead. he'll never catch up". the other plane zooms past. "damn bastards with their turbo boost"
Why the hell would I want to include V1 in the sentence if I dont know what it is?! Honestly, people these days!
btw, It means the go/no go point where depending on the runway length and the weather conditions the speed at which you can abort the take off from without a overrun
great video, i work in ops at iah, so i'm always on these runways on the ground, but don't see it from the passenger view very often...awesome perspective!
Well, when you think about it, the Embraer ERJ-145 is smaller, so it can get into the air at a slower speed. Interesting to see two take-offs at the same time like that, though. I've never seen that before.
Very nice vid...the 737 must've been pretty full but it was interesting to see how even tho the embraer was the first to become airborne, the power of the 737 engines won out in the end
