Mufasa isn't small he's not the biggest Cane Corso Ive seen either. I happen to have his grandson and he's big over 125lbs and not a year old yet. These are great dogs can be hard to train at times but patience is what counts. Very protective especially protective of children.

@yungswagg347 Why do you want the dog's ears cropped? It doesn't serve any purpose. Your father is right not to crop a dog's ears.

Presumably you think it looks cool - that's a very bad reason to harm your dog, and that is what you will be doing by cutting its ears.

You should be getting a dog if you are ready to give it the love and attention it deserves, not because you want some that looks cool, or tough or whatever.

Listen to you father, and don't have it done.

@peterfdrucker The reason dogs have floppy ears is because humans thought "it looks cool" several thousand years ago when domestic dogs were being selected. Cropped ears are less prone to infections, parasites, and damage from other dogs while playing and nipping. They aren't cropped to look tough.

@BellaxStrega You dont just crop the ears for dog fighting. It is best to crop the ears if you are hunting with your dog too. All it takes is a large thorn and it can rip half the dogs ear off and lose a lot of blood. Let alone what a wild boar can do.

@BellaxStrega Ears are more vulnerable than other areas because of the high quantity of blood vessels running through them. I have friends of the famiy in Italy who hunt wid boar with dogs. Their ears and tails have been chopped for that very reason. I disagree with cropping a dogs ears or tail uness its completely necessary. @BellaxStrega A lot of things are banned in Italy but they happen anyway. Pitbulls are (wrongfully) banned in the UK but people still have them. It was purely done to protect them, nothing more, nothing less. They are not guard dogs in this case but hunters which means they see a lot of action. Call their vet what you will but its probably saved their lives on more than one occasion.

Additionally, a boar's first line of defense is it's tusks, which it will use to gore the abdomen and chest - not the ears. You can say whatever you need to so you can sleep at night, but it's simply not logical.

@BellaxStrega You seem to be missing the point. Luckily i am typing so can spell it out for you. I have had many dogs in my past and never touched their ears or tails because they were family pets. We have had the opportunity to buy them already cropped n docked but chose not to because there is no point. That and i think their (cane corso's especially) ears are very cute. If I was to have a dog as a working dog, I would probably crop n dock to eliminate risks.

@BellaxStrega Also, the risk is from the environment and other dogs in the pack rather than the Boar itself. Things like thorns and branches can tear a dogs ear apart when they are chasing Boars through bushes. A dog can bleed to death from a large scratch on its ear.

Any competent veterinarian will tell you that there is a far greater risk of death from anesthesia during an unnecessary cosmetic procedure. Rationalize with ridiculous scenarios all you want, but your position is not supported by any factual evidence. See the AVMA's December 2008 statement.

@Taud I'd like to see someone try with my un-cropped female, lol. I don't believe that possible future injuries warrant willfully mutilating one's animal. I worked in an animal hospital and witnessed many ear crops. It is traumatic and unnecessary. Several European countries have banned cropping and docking for good reason and there is no epidemic of assailants going willy-nilly on uncropped dog owners in those countries. I promise.

In fact, though she's much more docile in general, in any threatening situation, she's the one to watch for, more so than my male. @BellaxStrega ive done it to my shepherd mix while we were wrestling but i also realize that she isnt going absolutely ape-shit on me because she likes me and puts up with me, but anyways a little story here, of all the wondering dogs to be bitten by i didnt think a large english sheep dog mix would attack me, but it did, i managed to hold it back by its long fur and one of its floppy ears until the owner heard us, the owner took the dog and relaxed the collar, dog realized and grabbed my leg

(2) Honestly, do you advocate cropping ears no matter the breed, labs, hounds etc?

(3) The fact is people crop dogs' ears because of aesthetic standards, often set by the ACK. You don't see labs with cropped ears.

(4) Show me your golden retriever with cropped ears and maybe I'll take you seriously.

They've done a really impressive job. I have a 3 1/2 yyear old cane corso. I haven't intended her to be a guard dog. But her level of discipline is not even anywhere in the viscinity of this dog. The trainers have done really well.

Great job. Cane Corso's make some of the best guard/attack dogs out there. Their bite is actually around 3 times stronger than a German Shephard, due to the size of the Corso's head.

It's true. Nothing funny about that when one gets a hold of you. It's actually why police do not use them. They are afraid that they are a bigger liability. That and the fact that some are not as trainable as a Shephard. Shephards are great dogs too. It's just that a Corso has a larger head, which in turn means stronger bite. Good comment. I have three Corsos and i would like to have a Malinois too. Corsos are great for some thinks and malinois and gs are great for some others. In a litter you`ll find very diferents dogs with diferents drives. I can asure that a mali bites more hard than a corso, but corsos intimidate more in the fence of a house. You have to try that your dog never need to bite. Persuade a bad situation and do not get in a trouble. Best regards from Argentina!!
