@specializedChild462 the time is right when the child knows their alphabet. Once they are to that point, then the next step is to learn to spell by memorizing the pattern, such as M O M or D A D. When working with the patterns, they learn to sound out the word using phonics, thus learning to READ! So a win/win!
oh wow. he is super smart! Most kids would probably take all the letter out before putting new ones in but he was leaving letters that he was going to reuse in. He really knew his stuff. I am definitely getting one of these for my kid.
It is called a Word Whammer by Leap Frog. I started out with just writing a pattern of letters, M O M and told him it spelled Mom. He would then go put it into the Word Whammer to hear it. He learned by memorizing patterns of letters. All kids have the ability, it just needs parents involvement and a lot of excitement when they get it right! Good luck!
