I have a new myth. The semi may not have to be doing 1.5 times the speed of a commercial airliner, like Adam said. K.E. = 1/2 MV^2 Figure out the mass of the steel plate they used, and figure out the mass of the semi. Thus, you should be able to thouroughly smash both vehicles, to see that the car remains are lost in the truck remains.

The speed of sound is dependent on atmospheric conditions. I suspect they're at some altitude, where it would be lower. At 5,000 feet, it's about 748 MPH, et c.

Yes the car would demolish the sled, in much the same way that we saw the sled demolished here. Which mass is "moving" is only a matter of perspective. From the sled's perspective, the car was the moving object. The relative velocity is all that matters. The sled fared better because it was denser. The planes went into the buildings because they were denser than the air inside. They didn't actually cut through much metal and concrete.
