Its a turbo issue on the new detroit engines. Its the sound of an impending death of the unit.

If you think that sound has anything to do with the tunnel, it doesn't. You can hear the same noise in all environments, indoors or out.

I hear this all the time, i've heard it really bad on an Orion VI. It was far away and i was waiting for the bus and all i hear is this whistling noise and I was like "wtf is that?!" and then i see it come around the corner. It was really weird.

What is the cause of this noise?

Sometimes its the Fan Drive or Belt.
