How did you paint the Suppa Fu33, balance and expander on the pedal? Did you do with screen printing or by hand, and with what colours?? I'm working on one on my own and I don't know hot to paint it. Thanks!
Hi, this sounds really good. I've been a fan of Steve Hackett's Foxtrot/Selling England Shaftsbury Duo fuzz tone for a long time, and am searching for something very similar. Is this pretty close to that, and do you make these to sell? Keep up the great work.
Could you please tell me which schematics did you use for this one (maybe the Unicord one)? There are at least 3 of them around and I'm confused. I dunno which is which. :) Thanks?
If you can get a circuit you could probably decode it with a reference guide for schematic symbols. Alot of DIY kits come with a step by step picture instructional that forgoes the need for much experience besides soldering experience and patience.
By the way, this pedal also sounds WAY more like the old Superfuzz than any of the other clones I've heard.
Narley dude ! your a gunius! gotta love a crazy fuzz AND thats a crazy fuzz. im gona make me one of them any tips? mybe a vid of you showing the construction stage.....ect would be interresting . you should have your own tv show! realy well presented . thanks for taking the time and shering your grate collection and inventions/mods yourock!
AWESOME!...This sounds GREAT Man!...And You Built it on StripBoard??!!.. You ROCK!...Do you have the Stripboard Layout you used?.. I Love the Diode Switch and The Starve Pot...(GREAT IDeas!!)..Im building an Exact Clone, My buddy Etches PCB's and I found a Duplicate of the Original Circuit...Im Using 2sc828 Transistors and OA90 Diodes.
Hey blondegraemey where do you get your e components? I cant find germanium diodes on any legitimate websites. Also do you possibly have a printout of the PCB? Thanks man.
Hi, the diodes are easy to get on ebay. I don't have the PCB, this one is built on vero board. All details are on the freestompboxes web site, just google it. G
I build one of these a while back and I'm loving the harshness of it. I used 2N5088's and put the bias trimpot (for the octave) in as an external control (which I am quite happy about though the difference is 'minor'). No starve control though, which after hearing your demo I regret. Maybe I'll build a dying battery emulator..
You know you could have put a dual color LED in for the tone right...
Who do you think makes the "closest" sounding super fuzz on a budget price today? Thanks!

I painted it by hand. I used enamel paint, the type you use on small models etc. G

Yup, that's the sound. I have an old 70's Unicord one. Orange with the huge blue stomp plate.
The starve and tone switch are great additions.
Great circuit!

That's an awesome sounding fuzz. And that starvation circuit really gives some incredible sounds. Some like the Queens of the Stoneage. Well done!

Very interesting and flexible pedal! How much did it cost to build, and how's the noise? If you're not playing is there alot of hiss?
FugginNorb 2 years ago
It didn't cost much to build, £25/30 perhaps?
No problems with hiss! G

How would an average dude with no electronic knowledge whatsoever build one of these?
I mean, I built my own computer but I have no idea how to solder things nor deal with chip boards.

I was just looking for a good demo of this pedal... I'm going for a Big Cheese clone and then i'll make this one, it's definitive.
Thank you very much for the video and congratulations for this impressive DIY work.

dude you need a Big Muff to go with this pedal to give you some hard bass,i use 2 superfuzz clones and a Big Muff thru a solid state amp
acepple95 2 years ago 4
Man, did you design it your self ? I love the idea of dying battery - sounds very desired and sexy !! whoooaarrhh
PaulskiMusic 2 years ago
I didn't design the circuit but this particular pedal was put together just as I wanted ti to be. G

I don't like Big Muff's.

Hey I got a question: Could I use an amp like this on a hollow body?? I mean without it starting to "buzz"?
Please answer! Thanks!
Fleshjam 2 years ago
Do you mean a 'pedal' like this rather than an 'amp'?
Any fuzz may cause feedback with a hollow body. It depends how loud you are and how far you stand from the amplifier. G
blondegraemey 2 years ago
i stuffed my epiphone joe pass with news papers and added 2 black plastic hole covers that stay in place because of the compressed paper.
Hey presto nice semi hollow sound and no feedback with "normal" fuzz volume.

Does the Starve control only work when you are using the battery or will it work with the DC adapted input?

You know you could have put a dual color LED in for the tone right...
B.t.w. that was Sonic Youth at 3:38 right?
gkoerselman 3 years ago
Hi, thanks for the comments!
Yeah, I would have used a dual colour LED but I didn't have one lying around so I used two.
At 3.38 is my bad rendition of 'I wanna be your dog' by The Stooges! G
