@75tim192l4 Coming from a country with 62 million people and virtually no legally owned guns (all are antique, hunting or target guns [not handguns] and none whatsoever allowed for self defence) I can tell you that approaching 1 gun per person is a far less scary number than approaching no guns per person and almost all handguns being in criminal ownership.
Also consider this - with the guns:people ration approaching 1:1, the lack of people killing eachother kinda suggests it's a non-issue.

Please someone explain to me why people think that Obama is going to "take our guns"? Criminals still find a way to get there hands on guns while the law makers make it harder for us to get them to defend ourselves. Death by Cars each year in the U.S. = 42,000 (averaged from 1975 to 2010)
That is a scary number.
Death by Guns each year in the U.S. = 31,000 with only 12,000 (40.5%) being actual Homicides.
The rest were Suicides (55.6%).
My point is:
If you Ban Cars and provide proper Mental Health Care you save a lot more lives than you would if Guns disappeared.
So...Ban Cars and Tax the shit out of the whiny anti-gun Liberals to pay for proper Mental Health Care.

Another fact is that republican politicians have been linked to weapon and ammo manufacturers who have been negotiating decreases in weapon and ammo manufacturing. a few years ago (i dont quite remember when), i read a report that in the entire city of munich (1.3 million people, 2.6 if you count suburbs) there were a total of 5 murders. FIVE. i'd like to see a similar statistic from any major american city. i am sure that many factors were at play here, but there is no denying that the gun control laws had something to do with that number being that low

Switzerland has the lowest crime rate in the world, because EVERY miitary age male is issued a gun, whether he likes it or not.. all military age males are automatically enrolled in the reserve defense force.. and they keep their guns at home, not at an armory. No one goes postal or robs a bank in Switzerland, because they know in the back of their mind that if they do, then within a minute there will be 20 other dudes with assault rifles outside trying to put him down. EVERYONE should own one.

Although "tougher" gun laws do make a dent in violent crime until the Americans solve their economic and social problems (which have just gotten worse in the last 150 years) any weapons laws will simply be ineffective.

@IDontWantYourCereal There is no such thing as a 'defensive' weapon. All weapons are used to kill your attacker, they dont physically protect you like armor or a shield would. They can be used to protect yourself, but then theyre still an offensive weapon. So all weapons are both for defence and attack. Look up MAD strategic doctrine in wikipedia if you dont think nukes can be used defensively.
